I don't think it's that big of a deal if the government listens to some international phone calls. I guess it's for our own good. This way, the Al Quida group will be atleast a bit afraid to communicate with each other, which will actually makes it harder for them to plan anything.

No yaa !! i'm sure you didn't offend anybody !!😛😛

But the phone tapped are of people who have suspected Al- Qaeda links who are speaking internationally . Now i talk to India for hours almost everyday . Firstly , since i am not gulity of any thing it doesn't bother me . Incase , there is a misunderstanding and they do tap my calls , they will find a boring conversation between mother - daughter . And that doesn't bother me . So i can say , that nobody will be listening to conversation your mom has . And as i said , anything that will make the Country i live in a safe place . Even if i have to compromise a little .

bgdesai - Although i am absolutely for as much security check as they deem necessary at the airport . I do agree that harrasing your baby again and again would've been tough for you . They ceratinly don't have much manners in that respect to be a bit more understanding .
But look at it this way , you and i who are travelling aren't guilty . But a terrorist can come in many disguises . It can be a woman pretending to be a young mother , who is hiding arms in her baby's shoes or bag !! So they need to consider all this before showing partiality towards any one.

i think he's right. He's not 'spying' on everyone, just people who he suspects may be terrorists, right? So it's not going through everyone's private life. Plus, it's protecting us Amercian Citizens.

No. I don't agree with bush at all.

I understand that protecting american people is a priority, but that doens't mean that he can blatantly violate people's right to privacy. The government cannot go on and spy on people without any warrants.
There are other legal means to search out terrorists.

How would you like it if everytime to communicate with someone abroad, there are other peole nosing into your emails and phone calls?

I do not agree with Mr. President for civil liberties are equally important, infact because his father and other presidents took liberty with the civil rights of various countries and individuals, this problem (solution for Mr. Bush) has arisen.
I believe some of the terror organization is creation of Sr. Bush, for depending on the whims and fancies and their aspiration and ambitions, Sr. Bush and other presidents took sides for which they are facing the consequences, the irony is that history is repeating itself and Mr. President is still unable to understand.
Compromising with civic liberties further would only lead to more and more rebels, the root cause of terror should be addressed, i believe no human being, unless he is insane, aspires/ desire to be a terror; it is the circumstance which lead to his choosing the wrong path.
Mr. Bush should be compassionate and try and solve the problem in more pragmatic and practical manner than just tapping some phones or email.
Mr. Bush should remember terror is like virus, who for survival upgrades itself with latest technology and intelligence and knowledge, and the most horrifying example of that was in UK in July.

i appreciate your post👏,very well written,i personally believe that various option should be explored and peace be given a chance, the terrorists or exteremists whatever they are called can be spoken with and only if that fails Mr. Bush should use such measures like intercepting emails, telephones, etc.

Interesting debate!!! I live in the US so I can totally relate to this.

Well, I don't agree with Bush at all. And here are my reasons.

First of all, It's definitely against civil liberties as it is in constitution that American rights should never be sacrificed and that's what Bush is doing so that can't be explained under any cirumstances.

Secondly, I think Bush himself is the cause of all the terrorist attacks.. with America's history of hundreds of years why didn't anything like this happen before? That too continuously! Clinton passed his period nicely and so did most of the other presidents so this time why only in Bush's period?

Thirdly, I think it's not helpping terrorism because whta they are doing is directly race descrimination. Everyday when we hear it's people from Asia mostly Pakistanis' and Indians that they are keeping an eye on.

Is that fair? I dont think so I mean anyone of them can be terrorist so it isn't fair to disclude them according to their race and place of birth.

So I am totally against Bush if he wants to stop terrorist attacks he needs to change his own ideas and actions not intefering with civil liberties.

Hey Naina !!👏👏 Great to see you back ya !!! You haven't been posting in this section lately.
I like the way you put forward your viewpoint . Although i don't agree . Firstly , we can't blame everything on Bush . And American Presidents had enough share of their scandals . Whether we are talking about Monica Lewinsky or Water gate Scandal or the Iran arms deal by Ronald Reagan .

Also if we are talking about Terrorism , we are living in a world thats different from yestersay , it holds terrorists and dictators like Osama & Saddam !! Therefore the need for taking more severe steps accordingly becomes neccesary.

As for Racial Stereo typing , that would be a interesting topic for a different post in this section.😛😛 Although , the tapping of the phones were of suspected links with Al-Quaeda or other millitant groups.

Once again , keep coming by DM . we miss you here.😊
