You need both. Good grades might get you a nice job, but without a solid foundation of knowledge, you will not be able to establish a strong career. In the end, both count. Its quite unfortunate though that schools stress good grades more than gaining knowledge.

while we go about gathering intelligence or knowledge it would also be a good idea to develop ones intellect along with it . And mere acquisition of knowledge without application doesn't serve much purpose.

sometimres you can get away with neither good grades nor knowledge if you have the right connections 🤢

*sigh* as they say its not about what you know, but who you know.

Although, I don't think any of us here on IF are really that privileged. Most of us appear to be ordinary people who like to discuss these things because we don't have those connections and are flustered. 😆

How would you get good grades when you lack knowledge?

Many people cram information in their short term memory - like a semester, the week of exam etc. They don't really understand everything. They just store the data in their head, spit it out for exams, or through the course of the school year and then the brain reformats during vacation and everything is erased to take in next years data.

True knowledge involves understanding what you are learning. When you actually understand, it stays in your mind and recollect at will. Instead of cramming data in your brain for short term and then formatting, the brain stores algorithms and programs. So later no matter how many years in the future, if some problem is thrown at you the brain program processes it step by step and you have the answers. These algorithms and programs can be used for various things.

Hence you can get good grades with our without knowledge, and the ability to get good grades eithe way is commendable. BUT good grades do not always indicate superior knowledge.

I had mentioned my views on this in a similar thread a while back, cannot remember which.

Both knowledge and grades are important. Good grades will get you into a good university, and together they will give you an edge in the job market. But once you get a job, you have to prove your aptitude through application of knowledge. Those who crammed their way through school do not have that ability, and their career growth will be stunted until and unless they start really learning and improving on the job in a big way. Mediocre grades get you into mid level universities and mid level jobs. But someone who is really knowledgeable in their field will do well, receive a lot of commendation and can have their career skyrocket. Those who get bad grades despite being knowledgeable have it harder. Of course with hardwork they too can succeed, but its a tougher battle.

So of course if you have both good grades and good knowledge that is the best scenario. But if one had to choose between grades and knowledge, in the long run knowledge trumps grades. Because mediocre/bad grades and good knowledge can take you way further that mediocre/bad knowledge and good grades.

Knowledge is borrowed from different places...or we can say its a collection of matters...without experiance or with experiance,bt in real life parents send us to school/college to try to gain a little knowledge, but all of us wanna do is learn how to score.... thats wrong begining ,some people drink from the fountain of knowledge, others just gargle...Some years before, age used to be respected.... the older a man was in the ancient days, the more wise, of course, becos of his experiences...he would have tremendous respect.. Bt now we have invented better means of communication.... The parents/teacher is no more the teacher... now the teaching profession is a totally different profession..😊

Both are important, I realize that however, I feel. . having knowledge is more important. This is what's gonna help you in the long run.
