Yes the Mind is the cause for bondage and the Mind is the instrument of liberation.
Giving up "I-ness" and "My-ness"; ie the ego and the attachment leads to Moksha.
Antah karana -
Manas
Buddhi
Chitta
Ahankara

Manas grasps the object

Buddhi examines arguments for and against

Chittam understands

Ahamkaraam changes the decison

_______________________________________
Seems consciousness is born in the Mind and it is the seat of the Ego. In the waking state we wake up to the world and are aware of the "I" and knows "I am". But we should stop there and just be ( or I am) ; not I am the so and so and I like so and so etc which is avidya or false identification.
Atma is Awareness that watches silently.
Therefore if we are the Atma there is no necessity to attain anything as our real self is always free.
So all we do is give up the wrong identifiation.

I did not know where to post this interesting video. Its a talk by a cancer survivor and his rediscovery of faith. At first I thought, I have something to say. Then I thought about this topic. We are all searching something - Krishna - faith, God, questions, answers, something that brings order in our chaos. So I thought why not post it here. The talk is titled "The Internet is my religion". Watch and see why

http://www.livestream.com/pdf2011/video?clipId=pla_8a026681-a944-4459-a735-6ff526f72b5a&utm_source=lslibrary&utm_medium=ui-thumb

Hopefully the link works. Alternate link at Moveon.

Its a really interesting and beautiful concept, the answers are in people. People coming together for each other. It may not be a deeper metaphysical answer, but perhaps we search too often in the wrong places. God is right here in the humanity that connects us to each other, what helps ordinary people achieve the impossible.

How attachment bind us
I am reminded today of the stories about monkey hunters in India and Africa. These hunters rely on the greed of the monkey to trap themselves. They get jars or clay pots with openings that are just wide enough for the monkey to put their hand in. they place fruit or peanuts in the bottom of the jars then they tie the jars to a tree or rock and simply wait. When the monkey's realizes that there is a treat in the jar they will reach in and grab it. Once they do their hand forms a fist that will no longer fit through the mouth of the jar. Yet the monkeys greed is so strong he will not let go of the treat that has now trapped him. In fact his greed is so strong that even if the jar is moved he will continue to hang on to what is in his hand, even if it seals their fate

Just in case some members find that their vibrations is getting faster

I got this and it is pretty interesting stuff.

Vibrations

I was recently told by a spiritual master that, "it's all about vibrations." I have been thinking about that statement for several months now. How does this relate to our present goals and personal growth?

I wrote an outline of where I think the study of vibrations could lead us to new paths of explorations and self-awareness.

Parallel Universes:
William Buhlman stated in his book, 'Adventures beyond the Body' to "Forget all your spatial concepts of up and down, near and far. The entire multidimensional universe is here and now." He then states that the concept that describes the structure of the universe is density and that each dimension encountered after we shed the physical shell (astral projection for example) is less dense in its "vibrational" substance. He also stated that, "apparitions and poltergeist activity are simply the natural result of a nonphysical inhabitant lowering its personal vibrational frequency (density) so that it can temporarily be seen or interact within the denser physical dimension."

UFO's:
Even if even a small percentage of the 50,000 computerized worldwide reports are true about UFO's (some from extremely reliable sources such as generals, pilots, and even Jimmy Carter who filed an official UFO report while he was Governor of Georgia) then you know they've got to be manipulating parallel universes to traverse time and space. We all "know" that light is the fastest recognized object (kind of like how we knew the earth was flat?), but what if you didn't travel outside, but instead, WITHIN?

Astral Projection and Vibrations:
As per Robert Monroe in Journeys Out of the Body: "The vibrational sensory effect was the single consistent symptom throughout the Beginning Stage. However, it appeared to be evolutionary. The early vibrations seemed to be rough, sometimes accompanied by a visual image of a localized ring of electrical "sparks." The frequency was on the order of ten cycles per second, according to the visual clock timing. At the conclusion of the Beginning Stage, the frequency had increased to approximately eighteen c.p.s. with much less discomfort to the physical body."

Sylvan Muldoon & Hereward Carrington said in The Projection of the Astral Body that, "The range of vibration to which our earthly existence is limited and does not extend over all creation; consequently we are unaware of the vast realities all around us. When the astral phantom (whose eyes you are using even now in reading this) becomes tuned up--which it can be--those eyes will be able to see other things besides the familiar surroundings, and the astral body will be able to get out of the physical."

Changing our vibrations:
How do we change our frequencies? Several ways: meditation, thought patterns, and spending more time in the astral. To a lesser degree, I'm sure food and living conditions play a part.

I practice manipulating my vibrations as I'm going to bed and waking up. I send energy through my body until I can really feel it, and then I manipulate it (increasing and decreasing the speed, moving it up and down my body). Stimulating and working with your chakras also affects your vibrational level (see Glossary for chakra description). As a person's vibrations change, they can then tune into different vibrations around them. For instance, some "sensitive" people can see ghosts and auras. It has also been documented that paranormal activity increases-- why? Because we are spiritual beings and probably really charge our "batteries" when spending time in the astral, so we are even stronger vibrationally in the physical when we return.

Another added benefit for raising your vibrations is that you can then visit higher realms in the astral, and eventually the mental plane. After years of astral travel, Robert Monroe (a leading astral projection specialist who has now passed on) started having strange things happen to him. Several times, in the physical, he "fell" down his stairs but landed as softly as a feather (Far Journeys, pg. 9). Money started appearing in his pant pockets. He could no longer consume alcohol or take any medications, including anesthesia.

Physical vs. the Astral:
The primary difference between the astral and the physical is vibrations. When you leave your body, you are at the coarsest vibrations and are open to anomalies in that range. You will see the astral counterparts to things in the physical. This is where overlay can happen. You may see thought objects, objects from previous tenants, or even objects from the future. An example of this was demonstrated by a remote viewing session. A target was done of a field, but the viewer saw a building that wasn't there (so it was deemed that he didn't have correct "target contact"). However, later, the exact building he drew was built. This can happen in the astral as well, again showing the malleable nature of time. A reader recently sent me this description of his astral experience: "I walked to my bathroom and I noticed that things weren't the same. The window was there! Well it's still there, but my sister has built her room onto this side of the house and it's really a shelf now." The longer something exists in the physical, the more permanent its home is in the astral. Also, something new may not yet even be imprinted. Such is the strange world of the astral.

So what is possible?
Depending on how much time you want to put into it, miracles, I would suppose. But with our modern, hectic life, is it really conducive to the times of old? Not many of us can be like monks and wile away the day in some quiet monastery. Results are going to vary accordingly.

all the answers of the questions;thanks to my frnd to write it.

Here's a question for you, do you believe in God?

Or even "Gods", as you say?
And do you believe in God being the all powerful and magnificent, skilled to the extent of perfection itself?
If God created everything, then that means he created Evil and bad stuff like poverty, diseases, death, ugliness too.
If he's so perfect, how could he create such stuff.
Be honest and answer a question - How many times a day do you sincerely remember your God?
For pleasing him, for showing that that you're scared of him.
If there wasn't stuff like this, humans would never turn to their God. God wants love and affection from his people, for them to worship him and be scared of him. In today's time, no one seems to have a fear of God. And they turn to him only during their bad times, no?
Now as you've given the example of a Father chopping his child's limbs to test his patience. With all due respect, that's extremely Pointless.
You're comparing a father to God. That's nowhere even close.
When we talk about death and extreme sickness, those're stuff that're meant to happen. Universally accepted facts.
You can't put your arm in a grinder on purpose and say that God made me do this to test my patience.
We're humans, the best creatures of God. As said in the Quran, Ashraf Ul Makhuqaat.
Any ideas why?
its because we have a brain that we can use. We recognise the good and the bad and we can aquire knowledge and we act accordingly.
No other creature has the ability to do that.
We have our minds to work with, and after that closing our minds to the fact that we do stuff and blame it onto God is Narrow-mindedness and simply stupid.
Doesn't everything happen for a reason?
For instance, if a person goes sick due to not eating. It's his mistake, not God's. God didn't tell him not to eat all day.
If you reply that God hasn't given him enough resources, so know very well that every human has resources. He needs just to use them properly. 'Har banday ka bandobas kia jaata hai'
Another thing, this is God's world. And you're no one to question it.
FAITH IS THE IGNORANCE OF OBSERVATION, BECAUSE IT CONSERVES WHAT IS TO BE BELIEVED.
It's faith that keeps us and our relation with God alive.
Be sincere and good to God, and then speak up about what bad happens to you.
If you see people lying in the hospital praying to God to heal them, and they're not getting healed so bare in mind that you don't know the entire persons life.
It's a saying that many people get punishments for their wrong doings in the afterworld, whereas many get theirs in the World too. Can you correctly claim that you know the person at all times, what he's doing and what not?
You talk about being Fair. If this world was fair, there would be no envy and its control. There wouldn't be any patience and its reward. Everyone would be the same.
This world is supposed to be difficult. If it wasn't difficult, then, believe me there wouldn't be a hell. Every person would enter heaven without hardwork.
You don't expect to leave the answersheet empty in your exam and expect to get A* Grade.
its the same thing.
Act human, and stop comparing God with us humans. For we're nothing but another mere creation for God.
If you question the God, and his ways..Denying his principles, then my friend. I'm sorry to say that you have no religion.
i hope there's no envies and anger in the end as i just delivered my answer to all your objections.

Just wanted to chime in with my thoughts on Atman..
It is said that Atman is Ajar Amar and Avinashi meaning it is immortal and eternal..Fine.. But it may also seem like it is changing or not exhibiting consistency throughout the journey of its many physical lives and this is due to the given medium of Samskaras... With regard to this I would be more inclined to compare it to a form of energy than anything else.
Samskaras are our actions, habits, thoughts, desires etc.. If Atman was the Sun and our Mind was Earth then the clouds would be Samskaras and from what all that I have read it seems we cannot fully benefit from the Sun as long as the clouds remain..

R! for Atman!

***
If the red slayer think he slays,
Or if the slain think he is slain,
They know not well the subtle ways
I keep, and pass, and turn again.
Far or forgot to me is near,
Shadow and sunlight are the same,
The vanished gods to me appear,
And one to me are shame and fame.
They reckon ill who leave me out;
When me they fly, I am the wings;
I am the doubter and the doubt,
And I the hymn the Brahmin sings.
The strong gods pine for my abode,
And pine in vain the sacred Seven;
But thou, meek lover of the good!
Find me, and turn thy back on heaven.

***

"na jayate mriyate va kadacin
nayam bhutva bhavita va na bhuyah
ajo nityah sasvato 'yam purano
na hanyate hanyamane sarire"

--The soul is never born nor dies at any time. Soul has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. Soul is unborn, eternal, ever-existing and primeval. Soul is not slain when the body is slain.

Self has no attributes, and yet It is at the same time atman. How can that be? It is because the self shines as the world, the Universe, atman being a part of it. Atman is not equal to the concept of transmigratory soul. It never leaves one body and enters another. Atman is Brahman,
that is, pure conciousness, unmoving, timeless changeless. It is not affected by any possible transmigration, thought or action in the part of life.
Nice take Empti! & my_view!...wish you had continued on the atman elaboration!
