Hello friends..This is my first post in this section..

Just had an argument with some retards in some community(Not IF)...

Just a question,I thought I'd like to ask..

Hindi is the primary official language of India..And English is the secondary..

As an Indian,I would like to know Hindi and English..But,I would be a biased towards Hindi because it has originated here..Anywhoo...

India is a land of different languages and now if two people belonging to different languages meet..Wouldn't knowing Hindi come in handy? And it's not like every Indian knows English..So Hindi can be of great help..

Wouldn't making Hindi a must learn in a way can help people?

In the argument,it was pointed out that Hindi isn't a must learn when English is doing the job..How far does that hold true?Do you really think English does the job everywhere?
It is good to be a country with many different, lovely languages but something which everyone would be able to speak, which might help bring people together etc etc..Wouldn't that be good?

I know many of you might point out that, why Hindi alone? Why not something else..Good,anything else but,I am speaking about Hindi here because it's little widely used!😆

Do you think making Hindi a national language might come in handy and also provide some oneness on the basis of language?

Ur thoughts?

Welcome to DM Ms magixx...

Great topic....has been discussed before...

The beauty of India lies in its diversity....there are different cultures and different languages in India.......none of them is superior to the other....they are just different...

I come from a Hindi speaking state and the only two languages I speak are hindi and english........so I would be happy if Hindi is made the national language but the fact is that there are are lots of states in the south where people do not speak/understand hindi.........they are already learning their regional language and english...it would be not fair to them if another language is imposed on them.............my suggestion is that there should be an option to learn hindi if any body wants to learn it because no doubt Hindi is the most widely used language in India so learning it would certainly be of help.....but it shouldn't be made compulsory..........instead I would like english to be made compulsory as english is an accepted global language.....

Thanks blue-ice!😊

Yeah,true..It isn't imposing..But see,when I was in school..We had three languages..Hindi was a MUST learn in my school those days(I am from South India)and I didn't take it as a burden..It was always a pleasure!

But,the question is..Almost everyone in the country knows Hindi..Like in my region, whenever I need to hire an auto,I speak to him in Hindi and he responds in the same language as well..So you see..There is that understanding..Now if I would go into some other state, say Tamil Nadu and wouldn't even know a bit of Tamil..How would I converse with an auto driver who wouldn't know English/Hindi/My regional language?

So that's why I said that if we had one common language,it would come in handy as well as the feeling of oneness would be there in terms of language..And Hindi is so widely used that many people who have no whatsoever education in Hindi do understand the basics(Few don't,though😆)..So,now if it could be more widely used, wouldn't that come useful?

And like I said..Few people think that English is doing the job so why learn Hindi? That attitude needs to be removed first!😡😆

No Hindi should not be declared as National language (it is an official language currently along-with English), it would only harm Hindi itself as it will be presented as Hindi imposition in certain parts of the country. But yes ideally Hindi should be developed as a link language in India, a vast number of Indians already have working knowledge of Hindi.

And no English is not a must for us nor for our development and growth. Every country worth mentioning proudly uses its own language. We unfortunately have given divine status to English. We have been using English since independence and where are we? Kaunsa teer maar liya humne?

It is a colonial baggage and should not be given official status anymore. The official work should be done in Hindi and the respective state languages only.

All IMHO!

@SolidSnake:-Connecting link,etc..Yeah..Like in South India many people do have the attitude of 'Knowing mother tongue/regional language is more than enough' and that is what irks me..Official language hi sahi..But knowing official might be coming handy sometime or the other..
Not knowing some regional language might make you feel foreign in that region sometimes!

Could you plz tell me why making Hindi a national language would harm Hindi itself?😊

I understand what u are saying but the thing is that an auto driver in TN is going to learn hindi only if he takes classes in hindi because that is not his first language........so why not english.....although I agree that learning another language especially hindi will be of great help but .....we should be thinking in global terms now.......the world is shrinking .....not literally.......but in terms of accessibility........maybe in next 50 years people will be able to travel to other countries just the way we travel from one state to next in India..............So keeping it in terms of long term perspective I would say English will be better as a common language in India......it is unofficially our national language anyway......people in countries like China have also started paying more attention to english as in the global economy of today english definitely helps..

The official work is not limited to the states only.......businesses operate across the state borders also.......what is ur suggestion for that....which language is to be used if a company has its HQ in Delhi and Regional offices in TN, W.Bengal and Karnataka....😊

Like I said..Many people who do not have any education in Hindi do pick it up when they keep on hearing it..Sadly,not all can receive education but,if the people who do can promote it by speaking it then the others would pick it up as well..I live in Hyderabad and here almost every auto-driver knows Hindi even though it's not our regional language..Where did he learn it from?He must have picked it up..And it's just the basics...😊

As far as English is concerned..It's something which has not originated in our country so why publicizing it so much?Every Russian knows his national language better than English and they are far more developed than we are..Then why shouldn't we be learning Hindi and make it a common language or a national language?😊
