KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court yesterday suspended its order to allow the Catholic Church to use the word 'Allah' in its Malay-language newspaper, pending the outcome of an appeal.
The move was endorsed by all parties in the dispute.
The court's decision came as Prime Minister Najib Razak, after meeting the King, urged everyone to respect the legal process.
'The government has already filed an appeal against the decision of the High Court.
'While the appeal process is going on, it is our responsibility not to do anything that can jeopardise the interest and wellbeing of the people,' Datuk Seri Najib said.
The High Court ruled last week that the Catholic Church could refer to God as 'Allah' in the Herald, its weekly newspaper.
