Everyday the Taliban is getting stronger and stronger. They are nearly at the gates of Islamabad. When Holbrooke mentioned that Taliban is a threat to Afganistan, Pakistan and India, he also mentioned that India should join hands with Pakistan to fight taliban. One thing is saying and another thing the practicality of this suggestion. If Indian govt. readily help Pakistan then it will be able to ensure a secure region in the entire south Asia. But again if the stupid politicians start the blame game and the "Pehle Aaap" slogan when they wait for the first step to be taken, then I dont think anything can be done. Taliban is really a threat to Pakistan and once they have grip over the Pakistan area, India is the next target on one side and Iran on the other. Not talking about the nuclear weapons of Pakistan which will be a very very strong weapon in the hands of Taliban.
If the two countries' politicians want they can make these two countries(India and Pakistan) a real heaven on earth.

What help? Has Pakistan stopped supporting terror groups likes of LeT/JeM against us? As we discuss this topic, hundreds of hardcore terrorists are still being pushed into J&K. Can we forget the kind of things they have done do us in last 2-3 decades latest being Mumbai attacks. After all that last thing one should expect from us is to help them.
Taliban was created by Pakistan (Benazir was PM then) itself in 1994-95 to enable it to rule over Afghanistan via proxy. (poetic justice Taliban itself killed Benazir later) After 11/9 Pakistan was forced to ditch Taliban. Ab Taliban apne aakaaon ke against ho gaye hain to unn aakaaon ko apni naani yaad aa gayi hai.
Waise bhi one can help Pakistan against Taliban only if Pakistan itself considers Taliban a threat. Pakistani govt is doing peace deals with them and still considers them a strategic asset. After 26/11 when tensions were high, Pakistani officials declared Baitullah Mehsud a patriot because he had stated that his forced will fight against India in case of a war. Most of Pakistanis still support Taliban and their ideology (including many on this board).
Taliban threat to India is vastly exeggerated, they are a bunch of fighters who stand no chance in front of a professional army. They would be annahilated by Indian armed forces. Even the Pakistani Army should have destroyed them easily but they never tried to do that because of the "strategic asset" thinking.
So India should not help Pakistan. We should secure our borders and watch the action unfolding. Let them bear the brunt of monsters they created for others.

Can - Yes
Should - Depends on whats in it for India
Will - Depends on the answer to should

to help pakistan in this matter will be questioning the sovereignity of the pakistani state. if india help pakistan in this matter it will bring more tension towards the fragile relationship between india and pakistan. india has too much to risk for if it decided to intervere with pakistani's affairs and it better not do some kind of intervention with the pakistanis. i too don't think that the pakistanis will receive help or somekind of the so called humanitarian intervention from india. it is better for india to let it be.

i think the right question should be does india want to help pakistan? not can india help pakistan? or does pakistan want to be helped by india? this however can only be done with the possible death of indian's troops for pakistanis causes. for god's sake india and pakistan hated each other. most soldiers/troops who signed up for their army does not sign up to die for other's states cause let alone indians soldiers/troops want to die for pakistanis causes. will the people of india be able to cope with that, that their soldiers die for other state especially when that state is the worst enemy of india, when that state is the worst rival of india, when that state is the most hated state of india.
