1. Relationship with seniors. Helpfull thru-out the tenure.
2. Sense of out of kid-dom age. You are on your own, feelings inculcated. No more MOMMY / DADDY business, figure how to handle or manage situations.
3. You learn about respect / decorum.
I already mention there is limit to ragging, and NO no to physical aspect of it.

1.us jrs are in the ac hall..
2.Some seniors turn up the fan on purpose.
3.we ask them to stop.
4.They dont.
5.After the programme is over, they buy us something from the cantene.

I hear students being ragged all the time; however I've never had the opportunity to be ragged or to rag others ''''sighs''''

To answer your questions angie, i believe the purpose of ragging was solely introduced for the juniors to get along with seniors and cement good friendship and so that juniors could look out for their seniors to improve their performance and enhance their grades during college days. Seniors were supposed to support juniors .

I Thought the above was the purpose of ragging, however majority have treated ragging like bullying ''''roll eyes '''' There is a difference, but i suppose if ragging is causing more downsides than upsides than perhaps the government should consider the ban.

Yes, ROA 😊, Things start out with good intentions & innocent fun but soon take a turn for the worse as sum ppl dont know where to draw the line. It gives them an opportunity to indulge in their animal instincts . The college authorities are clearly not following the directions of the supreme court that has already banned it!

Well Raj, if ragging is carried out in the proper spirit then it can have the benefits U have enumerated. But clearly some students overdo it for various reasons I already mentioned. Someone has to keep a check on activities that go on in the name of ragging at colleges especially the professional colleges where many students R hostelers ! they are worse hit as they have no respite from the miscreants even after college hours.
Friendship, respect , decorum , independence can be developed by gentler means also without resorting to ragging.
I feel that the Supreme court has rightly banned it but now it remains to enforce its implementation.

Some Anti ragging measures that I could think of:

  1. Involve office bearers of various student union to take up the cause. Ensure that it shud B high on their agenda during college elections.
  2. Anti-ragging Posters prominently displayed at strategic locations in the college campus when new admission takes place.
  3. Organise orientation day for freshers where they R given adequate information regarding whom to contact in case of ragging. If possible also sensitise parents & teachers, hostel wardens regarding this problem & its gravity.
  4. An inhouse committee in college shud be in place to look into such matters & take timely action preventing the situation from getting worse
  5. Freshers shud pledge not to indulge in this activity once they become senior & form groups that keep vigil in the campus & hostels to prevent such incidents from recurring.

Any more suggestions wud B highly welcum 😊

Good stuff angie....

Here we dont have ragging, instead what we have is something called the Fresher's week for the new students. Basically Fresher's week, is like a club that runs for a week (as you can guess from the name) in this club, all the new starters introduce themselves to other new students and get to know each other better and its only open for juniors. I think this has many advantage over ragging, one of the greatest advantage is that you should know your class mates better than your seniors and maintain stronger friendship with them, thus there is no bullying or bullying is kept to a minimum.

What is your say?

XoXo
