Todays article in TOI " Medical student killed in ragging. " He was beaten to death by seniors after he complained. This brought back memories of my cousin who ran away from his medical coll after being ragged in the hostel. But he was luckier I guess as he was strong & bold enuf to fight with a number of boys single handed & managed to lock them all in his room. So he escaped with his life but never returned to pursue his course!
Students prepare so hard for these comp exams only to B defeated by the menace of ragging. We have laws against ragging but it hasnt curbed it yet. What steps do U think shud be taken to handle this menace for this is what it has becum ! It starts of with innocent fun but takes omnious turn later

It's shocking and shameful! Why don't they ban all forms of ragging --- period! Every year one or the other student dies because some are hell bent on making their lives miserable for them. I fail to see the underlying objective of getting to know your seniors and for seniors - to get to know the freshers when violence is used. My heart goes out for the family and the young boy --- what a waste of life!
I also read that Aman had told his parents about the bullying at the hostel but they never thought the situation was this severe. This makes me wonder why parents don't take kids seriously in such matters? Same goes for newly wed girls who are tortured in the name of dowry. Why don't parents bring their kids back home and away from the physical and mental abuse? I agree the way education system works in India, with age limits and ragging being rampant at pretty much most colleges, it would be hard for the parents to let their kid drop out but they could have gone there personally to see what was bothering their son.
That said; the responsibility lies with the school to ensure the safety of its students. Strict action should be taken against those who are guilty. Their parents should be fined heavily as well so that parents start instilling the value of life in their kids --- start teaching their kids why bullying should be shunned not adapted.
Feeling so sorry for that young lad!

This is the Scum that will continue to flow unless there is definitive action taken and an example set for people who killed the Student.
I Hope the judiciary remains incorruptible in this case to the last and delivers a judgment that will not only invoke fear in the minds of Stupid people who think they are seniors and deserve some respect but also destroys the lives of people who will indulge in this shameful Act.

the seniors who did it were supposed to B drunk & politically connected. But its alarming to know that it went on for months & even then the boys parents didnt take it seriously !
Many times B coz of the hard work put in, capitation fees involvd etc parents want the student to cont little realising the seriousness of the problem
Various underlying reasons for targetting sum1 like this is he /she is considered soft target , outstation student staying in hostel, admissn thru sports/caste/ management quota , seniors having political connx etc
So what is the solution ! Authorities & parents both seem oblivious to the gravity of the problem. So students themselves need to spread awareness & tackle this at their own level.
Any suggestions as to how to go about it ?

death sentence to such people.. sorry for sounding so sadistic, but anyone who sprays perfume with a matchstick on a person, beats them up,shaves their head, bangs their head against the wall repeatedly and then stomps them to death, certainly deserves the noose.

Please dont lecture me with the "dont become a monster in the process of killing one".. my theory is this- aku-soku-san: kill evil immediately.

As far as Ragging is concerned anything that crosses limit is not good, but ragging has its own benefits. Have been there, seen ups and downs of it. Factoring out such incidents or incidents that take toll on students who don't pursue thier education due to ragging scare, I find ragging is okay and some level of it, is infact necessary.

I hear students being ragged all the time; however I've never had the opportunity to be ragged or to rag others ''''sighs''''

To answer your questions angie, i believe the purpose of ragging was solely introduced for the juniors to get along with seniors and cement good friendship and so that juniors could look out for their seniors to improve their performance and enhance their grades during college days. Seniors were supposed to support juniors .

I Thought the above was the purpose of ragging, however majority have treated ragging like bullying ''''roll eyes '''' There is a difference, but i suppose if ragging is causing more downsides than upsides than perhaps the government should consider the ban.
