CHAPTER 12
Swadheenta was so shocked on hearing Suhasini's words that she dropped the lunchbox from her hands.
"What was that noise? I think it came from your washroom"
Suhasini was about to check but Adarsh stopped her in time
"It must be a cat. You don't worry, let us find Swadheenta first"
Saying this he literally pulled her out of the room and took her towards the study.
Swadheenta was finding it hard to stop herself from rushing out in front of Suhasini. As soon as she heard the sound of footsteps moving away, she opened the door and ran towards the lobby.
Suhasini and Adarsh met her just as she was about to enter the study.
"Where were you? I searched you in the whole house. Come with me now."
Without waiting for her answer Suhasini held her hand and dragged her towards the entrance.
Swadheenta was anyways too shocked to react. Adarsh could not make any sense of his mother's actions and followed them. Suhasini's car was waiting there. She asked Swadheenta to get into the car and followed her. As they drove off, Adarsh stood there totally dumbfounded.
"Swadheenta, we are going to your Pg right now. Take all your necessary things. I -card, pan card and all the clothes required. I have already arranged for your air tickets to Chennai. Your flight is in 3 hours, therefore we have to hurry"
Suhasini told a stunned Swadheenta.
"But Mam, I can't afford..."
Swadheenta could not complete her sentence
"You don't need to worry about that. I will adjust from your salary."
Suhasini said.
Swadheenta was too much overwhelmed by this kind act of her boss. She could not control herself anymore and started crying. Her crying unsettled Suhasini a bit but she didn't stop her. She always had this facade of a strict boss in front of her employees and never attempted to build any close relationships with them. She preferred to maintain a distance but Swadheenta was different. She was not able to hold back for long. When they reached the airport , Suhasini held her hand between her hands and gave a gentle squeeze.
"Everything is going to be fine. If you need anything help ,please feel free to ask. Make sure that the best treatment is available to him. Whatever be the expenses, I will transfer to your account. And do keep me updated"
Swadheenta felt an unusual warmth in that touch. She felt as if they shared a common thing. She looked at her eyes but could not find anything in them. She nodded and got out of the car. Suhasini watched her vanish into the domestic terminal and then still looking that way told the driver,
"Jatin, turn towards the court please"
Adarsh was pacing up and down in his room, waiting desperately for any news from Swadheenta. He tried calling her but she would not pick up the call. Mom has also not come back till now. He wanted to share his anxiety with someone but today Abhay was also busy in some work. Simmi as usual had gone for shopping. Just then he heard Suhasini's car pull over. He got out of the room and ran downstairs. He was taken aback on seeing his Mom. She looked so tired and disheveled. She got in and just dropped on the sofa. He went to the kitchen and brought a glass of water.
Suhasini was surprised to see him.
"What are you doing downstairs? Hasn't the doctor asked you to rest"
"I am fine Mom, but you don't look good. Was it a very difficult day at court?"
Adarsh asked
" Yes, it was a very difficult day. By the way, did you get any message from Swadheenta ?"
Suhasini asked Adarsh
Adarsh had not expected this question. She was not supposed to know about their relationship. Then why was she asking him?
"Why would she message me Mom? We don't know each other that well."
"I know but I thought maybe just in case. She could not contact me so she might have told you"
Suhasini was too tired to notice Adarsh's hesitation. She thanked him for the water and quietly went to her room. Adarsh could sense that something was bothering her.
At the dinner table that night Simmi went on constantly about how someone famous had a wardrobe malfunction. Abhay tried to stop her a couple of times but she was too excited . The brothers were afraid that Suhasini might get pissed off very soon and explode. She just abhorred such discussions, but today it looked as if she was not even registering what Simmi was saying.
"What do you think Mom, shouldn't she have carried a safety pin with herself? I always carry a bunch of safety pins for such emergency situations. You never know. You know last time I was trying a dress and the dress ripped from the middle in the trial room itself. I quietly fixed the part with a safety pin and kept it with the other clothes...Mom... Mom "
Simmi called out a couple of times
"Yes, you were saying something? "
Looked as if Suhasini just woke up from a trance.
Simmi was going to repeat but Abhay stopped her. He asked his mother,
"Is everything alright Mom? "
"Oh yeah, everything is perfectly fine. I am just a bit tired. I think I can do with some rest."
Saying that she left the table.
It was quite late in the night. Adarsh was awakened by a call. He looked at his phone rubbing his eyes. It was Swadheenta. He quickly took the call.
"Hello, Swadheenta. How is your Dad doing now? Is there anything to worry?"
Adarsh was concerned
"He is better now, but still in the ICU. Doctors have assured that there is nothing to worry as of now. But I called you to say something else."
After a pause she said
"It's breaking my heart to say this but Adarsh,we cannot date anymore"
