Abhay watched hiding behind a wall as half the neighborhood gathered around an unconscious Adarsh.
"I think I have seen him somewhere. I can't remember where"
One of them said
Abhay thought that he will have to do something before anyone recognised Adarsh. He quickly walked up to them and said in a stern voice
"Please make some room."
Everyone turned towards him. Abhay went near Adarsh and squatted beside him. He was unconscious but did not seem to be injured very much.
"Do you know him? Are you with him?"
The owner of the house asked Abhay.
Abhay showed him his I-card.
"I am dcp Abhay Sinha. This guy just escaped from the lock up.I came here chasing after him. He was probably trying to hide inside your house. Thank god your neighbor saw him and raised an alarm."
"Oh my god. Is he a dangerous criminal? "
The same neighbor lady asked
"Very much. He is a diamond smuggler. There are a few murder charges against him too."
Abhay did not know why he said that. Maybe he was too carried away by his own story. But it had the desired effect. Hearing that everyone quickly veered out of the 50 metre circle around them.
"Then what are you waiting for. Quickly take him away"
The owner said
"Yes, I will but I need your statement. That he was found in your compound"
Abhay said
"No no, I don't want to be involved in any police case. That too involving such a dangerous criminal. Sir, please understand. I have a family to look after"
The man was scared just at the thought of it
Abhay smiled and told him that it won't be needed. He carried Adarsh to his car and drove to the nearest hospital. Uff.. That was one narrow escape. He wondered what was he going to tell his family now.
Adarsh heard some faint noises. It appeared like his mother's voice. She was shouting at someone. Adarsh slowly opened his eyes to find himself in a hospital bed. He felt a terrible pain at the back of his head. There was a plaster around his right forearm. The noises were coming from outside the room.
"It is all my fault. I have pampered him way too much in trying to compensate my absence due to work . Didn't know that it would turn him into such an irresponsible person. Every time he does something that makes me question my upbringing "
Some hospital staff there asked her to lower her voice as the other patients would get disturbed. Suhasini realized her mistake and apologized. The doctor then went and told them that Adarsh has regained consciousness. He didn't have any serious internal injuries except a small fracture in the forearm and a head injury.
Adarsh saw his parents enter his room followed by Abhay and Simmi. Suhasini went up to him and sat beside his bed. She gently touched his head and asked how he was feeling. Adarsh tried to sit up but cried out in pain.
"Don't try to get up. You need rest. Don't worry. You are going to be fit and fine very soon. I know my kid is strong."
Manohar assured his son
Suhasini and Manohar then went out to complete some formalities regarding the bills. Abhay realized that Adarsh wanted to know how he landed in the hospital. But for that he would have to send Simmi out. So he looked at her and said sweetly
"Baby, have you informed your mother about Bhai's accident?"
"No baby. All this time Mom was around so I did not get a chance. You know my tummy has been hurting so badly because of that. You just stay here and look after Adarsh Bhaiya . I will be back in a minute."
Saying this she left
Both the brothers started laughing when she left. But Adarsh again cringed due to the pain. It felt as if he had been beaten up badly. Every muscle in his body was aching. He then asked Abhay what happened last night.
Abhay explained everything about how he presented him as an escaped diamond smuggler and murderer. Hearing this Adarsh wondered if he would ever be able to go to that area for picking up Swadheenta after this. Her neighbors would definitely call the cops on seeing him.
He then asked him what he told their family and why Mom was shouting at him.
"I told everyone that I took you along for a secret raid on a bootlegger's den. And one of them injured you. Ever since she heard that Mom has been scolding me like anything. Why I took you there. You are not used to these things and all. Even Dad could not calm her down. You know she has never scolded me so much. Not even when I was a kid."
Abhay was teary eyed.
"Don't worry, I will tell her that I insisted on going. But thanks for saving us. By the way you got any information about Swadheenta. She was not in her room last night. I wonder where she went.? "
Adarsh was feeling bad for his brother.
"Yes, she called in your cell some time back. Actually she was staying with her father in the hotel last night. He has come to visit her."
Abhay replied
"Hmm.. Her father has been visiting her way too often. I wonder what is the matter. "
Adarsh said thoughtfully.
Just then they heard a commotion outside.
"Excuse me Mam, you cannot enter without a visitors' card. I am telling you to stop.
They heard a man shout.
"My god Swadheenta, what are you doing here? "
They heard Suhasini's voice
Ever since she heard about Adarsh's accident, she had become restless. She desperately wanted to go and see him. Her Appa was to leave for Chennai the same day. But she could not wait till then. She made an excuse that her boss's son had an accident so now she will have to go for the trial in her place. Hearing that Mr.Ramakrishnan allowed asked her to leave quickly as she would have to prepare for the case. Swadheenta left but not for the court. She had to meet Adarsh first. When she reached the hospital, the guard standing in front of the lift did not allow her to enter as As she did not have a visitor's card. She then found a flight of emergency stairs and climbed them up to reach Adarsh's floor. But a guard caught her there too. She just pushed him aside and started running. She finally reached the corridor outside his cabin when Suhasini confronted her.
In her desperation to meet Adarsh, Swadheenta had completely forgotten that she would have to face Suhasini there. What would she say to her now?
"Mam, I heard about the accident. I am very sorry. I came to ask you if I could go for the trial in your place today. I know you are not in a frame of mind to fight the case right now."
"Oh. I completely forgot about that trial. But who told you about the accident? Even Dubeyji doesn't know it. I did not get the time to inform anyone.
Suhasini was surprised
Swadheenta felt she would be caught. Just then she saw Simmi
"Simmi... Yes, Simmi told me. Actually I had called you to tell that I would be a bit late today because I had to see my Appa off. But since you did not pick up I called her when she told me about all this."
Swadheenta was lying through her teeth today. She looked at Simmi and signalled her to go along.
"You know I always thought that I was good at reading people but you seriously confuse me. Sometimes you are so irresponsible that I regret having appointed you and sometimes you are so responsible that you came all the way to the hospital to ask if you could take over the case. Anyways, you are right. I won't be able to go to the court today. So it will be very nice if you could go in my place.The case is an easy one. So you won't have any trouble."
Suhasini was relieved in a way
Swadheenta has still not been able to have a glimpse of Adarsh. She could not leave without seeing him. So she said
"How is your son doing Mam? Is he out of danger? I have met him a couple of times when he came to pick you up"
"Oh. Yes., he is fine now. He fractured his forearm. Doctor has advised him to rest. He is awake now. If you want you can go and meet him. That's his room."
Suhasini said unsuspectingly
Swadheenta opened the door and entered his room. Adarsh and his brother were looking towards her direction. There was a bandage wrapped around his head and a plaster around his right forearm. He looked so weak. Suddenly everything became hazy. She could not see clearly. A film of tears have unknowingly come from nowhere and blocked her vision. She quickly wiped her eyes and went up to him. What was wrong with her? Why was she feeling so bad?a corner of her heart was aching but it was a pleasant ache. Abhay signalled his brother and left the two alone. He would now have to stand on guard outside to see that no one disturbed the lovebirds.
Adarsh smiled seeing her. He felt all his pain go away when she held his hand between hers
"Adarsh Sinha, you are a silly stupid crazy fellow. But I don't know why I find your antics so adorable. Who asked you to climb up that window? Do you know what was my condition when I heard about your accident? I didn't care for anything in this world and ran like a mad woman. I didn't care about my Dad, my job, my boss, even that stupid guard trying to stop me. I overcame everyone just to have a glimpse of you. And when I saw you after all this I realized that I am no more in a casual relationship. I have seriously fallen in love. In love with you. I love you. Adarsh Sinha."
She whispered with tears rolling down her cheeks
