A few days later
Swadheenta was sitting inside the car in the parking area of the court , waiting for Suhasini. She looked out of the window for one more time to see if her mother in law is coming. Yes, there she was. Looks like she had a hell of a case today. Her face had turned red with the heat and exhaustion.
Suddenly a man approached Suhasini. He was requesting her about something. Swadheenta could not hear from where she was but she recognized the person. A couple of days back he had approached her too for a case. Swadheenta had to reluctantly decline because she had no free dates in 2 months and the person needed an urgent hearing. That is why she had asked him to approach Suhasini who was taking selected cases nowadays coz she wanted to spend more time with Simmi's baby. However she wouldn't decline a case if she finds it interesting enough. But looks like Swadheenta's advice backfired. Suhasini seemed to be shouting on the hapless guy. Swadheenta rushed out to do damage control. When she reached there, she heard Suhasini saying
"Do I look like the most jobless person out here? ..How could you even think of bringing such petty cases to me ?"
Suhasini finally noticed Swadheenta . She turned to her and said,
"So now I have to take up cases passed over by you ? Just one case you managed to win against me and people think... This is ridiculous "
Suhasini walked away angrily and sat inside the car. Swadheenta stood there for some time like a statue, unable to comprehend what had come upon mom all of a sudden. Was it the exhaustion of the day? Or was it something else? She assured the person that she will help him find a good lawyer and went to join Suhasini in the car.
Swadheenta decided not to talk about it directly with her mother in law. Things were definitely not what they looked like but she was sure Suhasini would not tell her the truth if she asked her now. She will herself have to figure it out.
Some days later,
Swadheenta had decided to give Adarsh a surprise visit at his office. But once she went there, she realized that giving a surprise visit to a bureaucrat was not a good idea at all. There was so much commotion all around. People were running from here to there looking as if the burden of the entire universe had fallen over their shoulders. Nobody even had the time to take a deep breath. Swadheenta had already fixed an appointment with Adarsh but without him knowing anything. She knew Adarsh's PA who helped her get it.
When she entered his chamber, he was almost buried underneath a pile of files kept on his table . His hair was disheveled and when he looked up at her, it seemed that for a moment he even failed to recognize his own wife !!!
Swadheenta breathed a sigh of relief when he gave her a tired smile. She sat on the chair in front of him and asked,
"What is the matter Adarsh ? It is looking as if suddenly a storm has passed over this place? "
"Well, it's not any better than a storm. There has been a reshuffle of ministries. So we have got a new minister now who held a lower portfolio earlier. Now he has asked for all the files of the department to make an assessment of the outgoing minister's work "
Adarsh said, still arranging files
But why will he make an assessment ? Aren't there other committees for that?
Swadheenta asked
"He didn't say that he wants to make an assessment, he just asked for the files to decide his future course of action. But we know he will also look for the mistakes made by the earlier one, to gain some points with the party leadership. These people form a party for electoral gains but inside each one is jealous of the other. Unity is just for show. "
Adarsh stopped for a moment then suddenly as if he remembered something said,
There is something else that I needed to talk to you about. I have come to know that the judicial Enquiry committee set up for the Delhi blasts are going to call all the people involved in it for interrogation. They will call Dad too. And I am hearing from my sources that there are chances that knowing the extent of Dad's involvement, charges will be filed against him too. I don't know if I am ready to see him behind bars. Just imagine what mom must be going through. "
Swadheenta nodded thoughtfully. Then as if speaking more to herself,
Hmm... Charges against Dad. ...A show of unity... It can be the other way round too. A show of disunity... Adarsh, is there a CCTV camera in your chamber? "
Adarsh gave her puzzled look, he could not make any sense out of what she was saying.
There was one. But it isn't working anymore. That stupid mechanic. I asked him to...
Before he could even finish, Swadheenta took him into a tight embrace,
"Thank you so so much... You have solved a big puzzle for me."
"What are you saying ?"
Adarsh asked, pushing her back though reluctantly. He was worried if anyone suddenly enters and sees them in this position.
I told you about Mom's change in behavior in the past few days . I think I know the reason now.
"And what's that.?"
"I will tell you, but not here. You have a lot of work pending. See you at home "
Next morning, Suhasini was waiting outside the house for the driver to bring her car when she saw Adarsh driving in her car with Swadheenta sitting by his side.
"What are you doing with my car? What happened to your one? "
She asked the couple
"Nothing mom. I got eco conscious. So thought of doing car pooling. Your office falls on my way. So I thought it better to use one car for the commute. Come on in now. "
Adarsh wondered how he came up with this
"I know it's none of that. You two have some other plans. You know I don't like beating around the bush. So please come directly to the point "
Suhasini said, loosing patience
Swadheenta spoke,
"Please don't mind Mom but it is your turn to come to the point this time around. We know that your holding me responsible for the losses in the firm and getting jealous of my success was nothing but a show. U wanted the outside world to know that all was not well between us. May I ask why? "
Suhasini looked at Swadheenta. There was a proud smile on her lips. Not one of arrogance, but of a proud mama.
"I knew you would figure it out sooner or later. And you have done it quick enough. I am really proud of you... Can you stop the car here Adarsh. Yes. Please.. Thank you "
