CHAPTER 10
Jaya sat up and yawned. She had a slight headache. The previous day she had come home shocked. She had cried her heart out. Then she had tried to convince herself that there could be another explanation and had given up. Jai was having an affair. She had spent the rest of the day thinking how Jai could do this to her. Lost in these thoughts she had dozed off before Jai came home. But she couldn't sleep. Nightmares kept her awake most of the night. She had woken up many times scared but relaxed when she saw Jai sleeping soundly next to her.
Now she had a headache, probably puffy eyes and a broken heart.
She saw Jai standing in front of the mirror working on his hair. She looked at the clock on the wall. 9 am. She never woke up this late.
"Jai aapne mujhe uthaaya kyun nahin? " she asked.
" Tum kaafi tired lag rahi thi. Poori raat karvate badal rahi thi. Mujhe laga tumhe rest karna chahiye. " He replied.
" Par mujhe kaam tha. Breakfast banana hai. Mom bhi nahin hai. " She said hustling about.
"Jaya relax. Papa apne friend se milne gaye hain. Unhi ke saath breakfast karenge. Abhay aur Adarsh baahar jaa rahe hain. Main kaaka se khaana banane ke liye keh chuka hoon. Tum aaram se tayaar ho jaao."he told her smiling and left the room.
He never smiled like that. Until yesterday a smile like this would have given her hope but not now. Was he smiling thinking how foolish she was? Or was it because he was happy because of the woman?
She wiped of her tears. Something was to be done. But what? What would she do?
She got ready and made her downstairs worried . She collided with someone on the way.
" Sorry Bhabhi. Aap theek ho? "Abhay asked.
" Haan. Maine tumhe dekha nahin. Kuch soch rahi thi toh dhyan nahin raha. " She said.
" Kya baat hai Bhabhi? Mujhe bataayiye. Solve kar doonga. " Abhay said grinning.
She smiled and said " Tum iss mein kuch nahin kar sakte. "
Before Abhay could reply Adarsh told him to hurry up and get his phone from his room. She came downstairs and was about to go into the living room when Adarsh stopped her.
" Bhabhi, hum sab aapse bahot pyaar karte hain. Aap mere liye aur Abhay ke liye hamari badi behen jaisi hain. Isliye agar aap chahe toh apni problem hamare saath share kar sakti hai. " Adarsh told her.
" I know Adarsh. Par iss waqt tum mere madat nahin kar sakte. " She told him.
" Toh kisi aur se baat keejiye Bhabhi. Kisi se apni problems share keejiye. Kabhi kabhi ladkiyon ki problems ladkiyon ko hi samajh aata hai. I know iss ghar mein aisa koi nahin hai. Apni kisi friend se baat keejiye. " Adarsh told her.
He was right. And she knew whom to talk to.

Adarsh and Abhay were waiting for Simmi outside the mall. A little later they saw her car. To their surprise Swadheenta was with her.
"Swadheenta ko aapse milna tha bhaiyya. " Simmi told them.
Swadheenta blushed as Adarsh looked at her surprised.
" Woh mujhe tumhari help chahiye tha. " She said quickly.
As they walked into the mall Simmi said "Adarsh bhaiyya, Abhay keh raha tha ki aapko kisi ke liye gift lena hai. Swadheenta ko bhi Asad ke liye kuch lena hai. Toh aap donon woh le leejiye aur kaam ki baat bhi kar lena. Main Abhay ko leke jaati hoon. Tab hi toh use poori impact ke saath punishment milegi mujhe shopping le jaane ki. "
Adarsh and Swadheenta laughed while Abhay looked genuinely frightened as Simmi dragged him along. Once they were out of earshot Abhay asked Simmi " Unn donon ko akele kyun bej diya? "
Simmi looked confused and said " Kyun? Mujhe laga meri shopping se woh bore ho jaayenge. Koi problem hai?"
" No. " Abhay said absent mindedly. So Simmi didn't feel that his brother and Swadheenta liked each other. What is his misunderstanding as Adarsh had told him?
"Kahaan kho gaye ho baby? " Simmi asked him.
" Simmi, mujhe ek baat bataao. Kya tumhe lagta hai Swadheenta ko bhai acche lagte hain?" Abhay asked her.
" What? No. Mujhe nahin pata. Woh Adarsh bhaiyya ki bahut issat karti hai. Woh donon dost ban gaye hain. Par Swadheenta Unn ladkiyon mein se nahin hai jise itni jaldi pyaar ho jaaye. After all woh donon abhi abhi toh mile hain. Waise bhi Adarsh bhai engaged hai na? " Simmi said.
" Hmm. Main yunhi poochh raha tha. " Abhay replied .

An hour later Swadheenta and Adarsh sat in a cafeteria in the mall.
" Swadheenta, accha hua tum mere saath gift lene aayi. Thank you. " Adarsh said as they waited for their coffee. He continued " Tum mom jaise hi ho. Donon ki choice bahot alag hai lekin cheezon ko parakhne ki techniques same hai. Mom bhi aisi hi research karti hai kuch bhi lene se pehle. "
Swadheenta grinned and said " Its a pleasure to be compared with Mrs Suhasini Sinha. "
"Tumhe koi help chahiye tha na? kya baat hai? " Adarsh asked her.
She explained that she needed some government records regarding a case.
"Mujhe woh files urgently chahiye Adarsh. Aaj aur kal chutti hai aur Monday ko hearing. Kya tum kisi bhi tarah woh file dila sakte ho mujhe? I have been trying for a long time par office staff baar baar bahaane bana rahe hain. " She told him.
" Don't worry . Main kal files tum tak pahuncha doonga. " He assured her.
" Thanks Adarsh. " She said smiling .
" Its for a good cause. Thanks mat kaho. Yeh toh mera farz hai. " Adarsh told her .
" Kaash Sab aisa sochte." Swadheenta said sadly.
" I know. Its really good to meet a girl like you jo logon ke rights ke liye lade. " He said.
And on they chatted for a long time until they were interrupted by Abhay and Simmi. Abhay looked at them curiously as he and Simmi joined them. Simmi and Swadheenta were busy looking at the things Simmi had bought. Abhay was looking at his brother slightly worried.
A little later Swadheenta and Simmi left. As the brothers got into Adarsh's car he expected Abhay to repeat his questions from the previous night but Abhay remained silent. A few minutes later Abhay asked
"Bhai, abhi ghar jaana zaroori hai? I mean, kuch time saath spend karte hain na."
Adarsh looked at Abhay surprised "Kya hua Chottu achanak? "
"Kal mom waapas aa rahi hai aur main unke aate hi unse Simmi ke baare mein dobara baat karoonga. Aur mujhe nahin lagta mom maanegi. I have no idea what will happen. Aur jald hi aapki shaadi ki date fix honewali hai. Uske baad sab busy ho jaayenge. Toh kyun na aaj chill karein. Bas hum teenon bhai. " Abhay suggested.
Adarsh agreed with him. He was feeling rather stressed himself. He needed a break and so did Abhay. He took out his phone and called Jai.

Jaya once again stood in front of Ahuja mansion. Adarsh was right. She had to talk to someone. And who better to understand a woman than a woman. First she had thought of confiding in her mother or mother in law but then decided against it. Her mother would worry and her mother in law was too observant. Right now she was in no mood to explain why she had kept mum all these years. She just wanted someone to talk to. She had no friend to confide in. She had thought of Vanshika. After all she would be her devrani soon. But her plan wouldn't work with Vanshikha. They had many common friends and she didn't want any rumours.
Finally she had decided to talk to Simmi and if she got lucky Swadheenta. Simmi was naive but she herself was in love. So she would perhaps understand. Swadheenta on the other hand was very balanced and kind.
She entered the house and saw the girls chatting . They were surprised to see her.
"Main bas ek dost se milne gayi thi. Waapas jaa rahi thi toh socha tum se mil loon. " Jaya told them.
"Thats very sweet of you Bhabhi." Swadheenta said and added " Aap ko koi problem nahin hai na ki main aapko Bhabhi kahoon? "
"Of course not. Main apni dost ke liye bahot pareshan hoon . Woh ek ajeeb si situation mein hai
" Jaya said.
" Unhe kya hua hai? " Simmi asked.
" Meri dost apni husband ke saath khush nahin hai kyunki uske husband uss se pyaar nahin karte hain. Par usne unhe chhoda nahin kyunki use laga waqt ke saath sab theek ho jaayega. Par ab use lagta hai uski husband ki affair chal raha hai. Use nahin pata use kya karna chahiye. " Jaya told them tensed.
" unhe apne uss husband ko maar daalna chahiye. " Simmi said angrily.
" Simmi! !!"Swadheenta shouted and then she asked Jaya "Unhe lagta hai? "
" Woh almost sure hai. Usne unhe ek ladki se pyaar se baat karte hue dekha which is very unlike him. " Jaya replied not looking at Swadheenta. The girl was every bit a lawyer.
" Par agar woh aadmi itna rookha behave karta hai unke saath toh unhone use chhoda kyun nahin? Itne saalon se unke saath kyun rah rahi hai? ' Simmi asked.
" Kyunki woh unse pyaar karti hai. Uski love story bahot simple hai. Uski parents ne ek din use bataaya ki ladkewale uss se milne aayenge. Ladke aur uske family ke baare mein use bahot kuch bataaya. Aur phir ek party mein woh unki maa aur Bhai se mili. Pehli baar unka photo dekha. Unke baare mein suna. Aur phir jab unhe unki family ke saath dekha toh unka apni family ke liye care aur pyaar dekhkar khud se keh diya yahin tumhara jeevansathi hai. " Jaya said distracted.
Simmi looked confused while Swadheenta looked at her curiously.
" Woh hamesha iss baare mein baat karti hai. " Jaya said covering up.
" Toh ab woh kya karegi? Main toh kehti hoon use apni husband aur unki girlfriend ki murder kar deni chahiye. " Simmi said angrily.
Despite the situation Swadheenta and Jaya smiled at her antics.
" Simmi its not that simple. Woh itni aasaani se unhe chhod bhi nahin sakti hai. Baat sirf uski dil ki nahin hai. Do families ki issat ki baat hai. " Jaya said.
" Aur woh chhodegi kyun. Aapki friend ko apni uss sautan ka pata lagaana chahiye aur uss se nipat lena chahiye. " Simmi advised.
" Par woh uss ladki ko jaanti nahin hai na? " Jaya asked.
" Toh kya? Woh ek private detective ko hire kar sakti hai. Not that difficult. " Simmi said happily.
Jaya thought about it. Maybe Simmi was right. A little later she took leave. As she walked to her car Swadheenta went to her.
" Kya hua Swadheenta? " Jaya asked surprised.
" Bhabhi, main jaanti hoon aap mujhse badi hai aur zyaada samajhdaar bhi. Main bas itna kehna chahti thi ki kabhi kabhi aankhein dhoka kha jaati hai. Isliye aapki friend ko pehle baat confirm karni chahiye aur phir kuch karna chahiye. Rishte mein pyaar na ho toh shaayad chalta hai par koi bhi rishta bharose ke bina nahin thik sakta. Woh phir pati patni ka ho, parents aur bacchon ka ho ya dosti ka. Rishta todne mein ek minute bhi nahin lagta hai aur unhe waapas jodne mein poori zindagi lag jaati hai. Isliye kuch bhi karne se pehle shaayad unhe apni husband se seeda baat karna chahiye. " Swadheenta said.
Jaya was amazed at the girl's understanding of relationships.
" Jis family mein tum jaaogi woh bahut lucky honge Swadheenta . " She said as she got into the car.
