Although we see some changes in the urban Indian society now, it is hardly significant enough for us to notice an effect. I agree with everything you said. I have no shame in acknowledging that it happens even in my family, a so called educated family with a great deal of accomplished laureates. I was told by my mother that I should accommodate and adjust when I got married, and that it was up to me to make sure there are no problems in my "new home". As a revolt, I retained my maiden name and have not taken my husband's name.

I live in UK. I have lived in the US. I know of my friends who will change their entire life styles and become sati savitri's the moment their in-laws plan a visit to them. It is truly shameful and hurtful. I don't know when it will change completely.

@Bold

Same here. I still have my maiden name even after many years of marriage, as I do believe , its the identity i was born with , then why should i change when i got married. Even my hubby agrees with it.

As sad as it is, it is mostly women who follow sanskaar, and ensure it is followed. It is not my husband who has a problem with me not changing my name. It is my MIL, and that bother my mother 🥱. The men dont care much I think.

@soap I have classified women into 3 categories. First women who want to stand on their feet, work towards it, are capable, intelligent and will have their own passions. Category 2. They love to be housewives. Satisifed lot. Love to manage families. Love to cook and are quite contented with their happy family life. In fact they are happy being someone's wife. someone's mother.
Last category. They don't have the talent, nor the intelligence nor capability nor the attitude to stand on their feet. They want to eat off someone. They want the luxury of category 1 women being a category 2 woman.
And this lot is the one who feels threatened by category 1 woman. Because if a man who has something in his head he will prefer category 1 woman over category 3 woman. And the existence of category 3 woman is in jeopardy.
Unfortuantely category 3 is majority and it is they who love to pull down category 1 woman. So category 1 women if she needs to survive she has to learn to deal not with category 2, but with category 3 manipulating woman.
