49.1 Hall to Muralitharan, 1 run, pinched a single with a drive to cover

49.2 Hall to Malinga, no run, Malinga rushes out, backs to the leg side in the process and Hall pushed that one well outside off and the slinger couldn't reach it

49.3 Hall to Malinga, OUT, Pollock runs out Murali. The innings has folded up. Malinga pushed a fullish delivery to backward point where Pollock swooped on the ball, took aim and fired in a fatal direct hit.

M Muralitharan run out 1 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

Sri Lanka all out for 209. They would have taken it considering they were 98 for 5 but they had reached 195 for 5 and you would have thought they would end up with more. But the collapse - five wickets for 14 runs, has meant SA have got the edge. It is a slow pitch with some tennis ball bounce and could prove to be a tricky chase. It appears that SL are some 25-30 short but you never know. The pitch is abetting spin and the ball is stopping on the batsmen. SA will be confident of pulling it off. Join us in a while for the chase.

Filtered commentary - South Africa innings

Right.... the players are out there. Smith and de Villiers. The chase is about to start. Vaas to start. Just one slip in place.

0.1 Vaas to Smith, 1 run, lands outside off stump, on a length, moves away, Smith dabs it down to third man

0.2 Vaas to de Villiers, no run, full and swinging in. On the middle stump line. de Villiers leans forward and defends.

0.3 Vaas to de Villiers, no run, Again that disconcerting inswing. Bends back in from the off stump, de Villiers plays it with a straight bat

0.4 Vaas to de Villiers, no run, And again.

This time the bat came down in an angle but he manages to stab it away. de Villiers has an interesting technique. He presses his left foot forward and that foot faces mid-off. Hmm..

0.5 Vaas to de Villiers, no run, Shout for lbw as the ball curves back in. Landed on the middle and leg, bends in and de Villiers is struck on the front pad as he presses forward in defense. Perhaps, it was going down leg side

0.6 Vaas to de Villiers, OUT, beauty! de Villiers is cleaned up. Landed on a length, around off and middle and bend back like a banana. de Villiers pushes outside the line and the middle stump is pegged back. Death rattle. What a start for Sri Lanka.

AB de Villiers b Vaas 0 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

End of over 1 (1 run) - South Africa 1/1 (209 runs required from 49 overs, RR: 1.00, RRR: 4.26)

1.1 Malinga to Smith, no run, yorker-length to start with. Slings one full, on the off stump line, jabbed away

1.2 Malinga to Smith, FOUR, drifting on to the legs and that's Smith scoring area. He leans forward, whips it through square-leg

1.3 Malinga to Smith, no run, full, straight, on the middle stump line, bat comes dangerously outside the line but he makes contact and the ball rolls to mid-on

1.4 Malinga to Smith, no run, on the off stump line, Smith doesn't move his feet, just pushes it to cover

1.5 Malinga to Smith, no run, short in length, around off stump, mistimes a drive to cover

1.6 Malinga to Smith, no run, lands back of length, on the middle stump line, hurries on and Smith doubles up as the ball thuds in to the thigh pad.

End of over 2 (4 runs) - South Africa 5/1 (205 runs required from 48 overs, RR: 2.50, RRR: 4.27)

2.1 Vaas to Kallis, no run, ooh.... another one that curves back in but it starts from outside off and Kallis shoulders arms. The ball came back in and went past the off stump.

2.2 Vaas to Kallis, 1 run, on the off stump line, coming in, Kallis dabs it away to third man

A short midwicket and a slip in place

2.3 Vaas to Smith, no run, length-delivery around off stump, driven to mid-off

2.4 Vaas to Smith, no run, homing in on the off stump, again a touch of movement away, defended. He is yet to slip one with the angle. All his deliveries have curved in to the RHB

2.5 Vaas to Smith, no run, around off stump, nudged to point

2.6 Vaas to Smith, 1 run, slips in on to the pad, flicked away to fine leg

End of over 3 (2 runs) - South Africa 7/1 (203 runs required from 47 overs, RR: 2.33, RRR: 4.31)

3.1 Malinga to Smith, 1 wide, wide down the leg side. Lost control in the action there. The right shoulder came across a bit too much

3.1 Malinga to Smith, no run, full and slanting away from Smith who has a flash at it, misses and is beaten.

3.2 Malinga to Smith, FOUR, Another Malinga delivery on the legs, another flicked-four from Smith.

3.3 Malinga to Smith, FOUR, Another one. On the hips, Smith stays back and clips it past the diving square-leg fielder.

A short fine leg is in place and we have a deep backward squareleg in place

3.4 Malinga to Smith, 1 run, on the off and middle, worked to midwicket

3.5 Malinga to Kallis, (no ball) 1 run, short of lenght, outside off stump, Kallis pushes at it, bat away from the body, steers it to third man

3.5 Malinga to Smith, no run, full in length, outside off stump, Smith drives but doesn't connect.

3.6 Malinga to Smith, 2 runs, full in length, on the off stump and Smith shows he can straight down the grouind as well. Hits it on the up, past mid-off.

End of over 4 (14 runs) - South Africa 21/1 (189 runs required from 46 overs, RR: 5.25, RRR: 4.10)

4.1 Vaas to Kallis, no run, Vaas continues to harass the batsmen with his late inswing. Full in length, lands outside off stump and curves in, Kallis jabs at it, gets a inside-edge, on to the leg side

4.2 Vaas to Kallis, no run, again inswing, fuller and outside off stump, driven to cover

4.3 Vaas to Kallis, 2 runs, Classy off drive. Full in length, just outside off stump and comes back in a touch , Kallis leans forward, drives to left of mid-off.

4.4 Vaas to Kallis, 2 runs, Kallis skips a few steps down the track to counter the swing and drives a fullish delivery down the ground. He didn't charge out, just walked down the track.
Slip has been taken out. Short cover in place

4.5 Vaas to Kallis, no run, Again a bit of walk down the track. Vaas drags back the length and raps him on the pad with a delvery coming in.

Now Sangakkara dons a helmet and will stand up to the stumps. Now Kallis can't walk down. Interesting games being played there.

4.6 Vaas to Kallis, no run, almost traps him in front. Another length-delivery, on the off and middle, bends in, Kallis is almost caught at his crease, somehow manages to bring his bat down and jabs it away. Inside-edge takes the ball to the on side

End of over 5 (4 runs) - South Africa 25/1 (185 runs required from 45 overs, RR: 5.00, RRR: 4.11)

5.1 Maharoof to Smith, 1 run, full in length, on the middle stump line, driven to mid-on

5.2 Maharoof to Kallis, 1 run, dropped by Mahela. A very tough chance at first slip. Kallis flashed at a length-delivery outside off stump and it flew to the right of Mahela who dived full-length but couldn't hold on to it.

5.3 Maharoof to Smith, no run

5.4 Maharoof to Smith, no run, slower one, on the middle stump line, turned to midwicket. Both batsmen wanted a run initially and then retreat

5.5 Maharoof to Smith, no run, on the middle and leg, worked straight to short fine leg.

5.6 Maharoof to Smith, 1 run

End of over 6 (3 runs) - South Africa 28/1 (182 runs required from 44 overs, RR: 4.66, RRR: 4.13)

6.1 Vaas to Smith, no run, short of length, on the middle and leg, clipped away through square-leg

6.2 Vaas to Smith, 1 run, slightly outside off stump, again moves away from Smith who pushes it to third man

6.3 Vaas to Kallis, 1 run, Back of length, comes in from outside off stump, Kallis square-drives it past point. Vaas has repeatedly brought the ball back in to RHB. Not a single delivery, if my memory serves me right, has gone with the angle.

6.4 Vaas to Smith, no run, Smith backs away and frees his arms. Misses and Sanga whips the bails off in a blink. Appeals for a stumping but Smith had planted his back foot inside the crease.

6.5 Vaas to Smith, no run, on the off stump line, pushed to the off side

6.6 Vaas to Smith, no run, on the middle stump, full in length, curves away a touch, flicked straight to square-leg

End of over 7 (2 runs) - South Africa 30/1 (180 runs required from 43 overs, RR: 4.28, RRR: 4.18)

7.1 Maharoof to Kallis, no run, on the off stump line, jumps up a touch, Kallis adjusts by taking the bottom-hand out of the handle, pushes it out to the off side

7.2 Maharoof to Kallis, no run, almost caught by Chamara Silva at cover. Just short of him. Kallis square-drove a full-length delivery uppishly and Silva threw himself forward and to his left but couldn't reach it. Valiant effort.

7.3 Maharoof to Kallis, no run

7.4 Maharoof to Kallis, no run, cut and a miss. Short in length and Kallis eased back to cut but.... Smith goes down the track to have a chat with Kallis.

7.5 Maharoof to Kallis, FOUR, Overpitched on the middle stump line and Kallis smashes it down the ground. Classy. He made effort to direct it between the bowler and mid-on.

7.6 Maharoof to Kallis, 1 run, full and outside off, driven to left of mid-off where Murali dives to make the stop

End of over 8 (5 runs) - South Africa 35/1 (175 runs required from 42 overs, RR: 4.37, RRR: 4.16)
