Balashankar: What Gill did well in the first innings is that he played the line of the ball and ensured he did not chase the turn with his hands. Contrary to that, he left one anticipating turn and paid the price in the second innings.

Monumental fightback from India Pant but this break perhaps could not have come at a better time for New Zealand. It is Pant who is still keeping India's hopes of averting a whitewash alive. He has come out playing the brand of cricket that has served him well. Luck did play a part when New Zealand did not review an lbw shout against him. Ajaz was the bowler on that occasion but Pant has decimated him today - scoring 28 off the 26 balls faced with three fours and a six.

That aside, it was all the Kiwi show for a large part of the session, with India five down for 29 in their chase of 147. Only once has a target of over 100 been successfully chased in the fourth innings at the Wankhede. Which is why the timing of this interval will please the tourists. India scored 45 in the last ten overs for the loss of Jadeja. And that Pant-Jadeja partnership had New Zealand thinking. I think we have one final session left in this series, do join us in half an hour for the resumption

That'll be lunch on Day 3. This is some Test match and it's still in the balance, New Zealand probably edging it at the moment, but India have hope, they've Pant batting wonderfully well, they've Sundar who has made runs in the series and they still have Ashwin in the shed. But they can't think too far ahead, 55 is still a lot of runs and they've only 4 wickets in the bank. It's been all about Pant v New Zealand at the moment, the winner of this contest will probably win the match. Rohit will take a break after this Test and it couldn't have come at a better time. He looked so awkward in his brief innings and his heave opened up the door for New Zealand. Gill left one onto his stumps, Kohli, nothing much can be written about a man who seems to have forgotten the art of playing spin at the moment, Jaiswal was trapped in front, Sarafaraz added to the woes with a top-edged sweep. Pant was watching from the other end, he kept playing his shots, had his slices of luck, once when New Zealand didn't review a LBW call and then when a couple of mistimed shots went into the gap. He added 42 for the 6th wicket with Jadeja before the latter was dismissed. He now has Sundar for company and they need to make most of these remaining runs if India aren't to suffer a humiliating 3-0 series whitewash at home. The visitors were excellent - Henry stuck to his plan and dismissed Rohit, Ajaz was on a roll and Phillips was of excellent help. They've been a combo of Warne and Muralitharan for this India batting line-up and they're still struggling to figure them out. We'll be back for the final session at 12:10 pm
