"Ahem ahem" The sound of a throat being cleared rather too loudly to be considered natural brought Sumona out of her trance. She disentangled herself from Govind and turned around to face a furious Kapil. "What the heck is going on here?" He asked,teeth clenching,glare barely concealed. Govind immediately said,in an attempt to defuse the tension "Im an old friend of hers. Govind. It's lovely to meet u. Sumona and I go way back." What he didn't realise that this only added fuel to the burning fire. "Oh yea...that's good. She never told me abt u,he said,looking at sumona too,his tone accusing. And yea,she is a great friend. My best one,actually." Saying so,Kapil reached out and wrapped both of his arms around Sumona's waist from behind. She gasped in surprise. Being so close to him,she could breath in his intoxicating scent and it was driving her crazy. But she didn't try to pull back. Govind saw that and grinned. He was going to have a great time teasing her abt this. She noticed his look and mentally face palmed. She knew what was in store for her. Meanwhile,while kapil was still holding her, Preeti,Ali ,ginny and chandan arrived there. At the same time Govind stretched out his hand and said "Kapil,it really is an honour to meet u. I'm a huge admirer of ur work." The genuineness in his voice was hard to ignore and kapil reluctantly shook his hand,keeping one hand still around Sumona's waist.
Meanwhile,the others reached there. Preeti saw the situation and understood it in one glance. She winked at Chandan and Ali,and they grinned back. They knew she had something in mind.
"Sumona!! Who is ur 'friend'?" She asked,put special emphasis on the word. Sumona blushed and said "He is Govind. He is my best friend and also happens to be one of the most wonderful,ridiculous and funniest people I know." Govind grinned and shrugged,accepting the compliment. Kapil did not seem so willing to do that,though. "Funny,ridiculous and wonderful,did u say? Now,who can be like that?" He said,his eyes widened in pretend innocence,his voice dripping with sarcasm. Uh oh,everyone thought. This dam is gonna burst soon. Preeti immediately introduced all of them to govind and shook hands in turn. He smiled after he shook hands wid the last person. "It's always good to meet new ppl. Specially ppl as wonderful as u all." Everyone acknowledged the compliment wid a smile,except kapil who rolled his eyes. Sumona glared at him. "Why r u being so rude?" She whispered to him furiously. He stared hard at her and then took her by the hand,gently and said to the others "We will be back in a while."
Despite his anger,he did not want to behave rudely wid HER at ALL. When they had reached a little corner,he released her and she turned around to face him. "Care to explain what the hell is going on?" She asked. He stared back,not bothered. "I cud ask u the same question. Who is he? How come I don't know about him? Have u been here wid him before? Was that the reason u were behaving so odd during this trip?" He fired his questions. "Why do u care? He is my best friend,and that's it. Yes I have been here wid him before. I lived here wid him for two years. He was with me in college,He is a Punjabi himself, and we were sent here to do social work. But,why do u care?" She repeated. Kapil looked at her,hurt. "U kept such a big thing from me? And u think I don't care abt u? That u mean nothing to me?" He asked,his eyes filled with pain. Sumona cudnt bear that look for a moment longer. She jumped up into his arms,hugging him
tighter than she had ever hugged anyone. Kapil was shocked but he reacted immediately and hugged her even tighter,almost crushing her to himself. When they finally pulled her back,Sumona looked at him and said "I know that I am important for u. And I'm sorry..I didn't keep it from u purposely. I just didn't think it was important enough. I mean,we both have too many friends. Can't tell each other all of their names,can we? Wud take a year almost." Laughing,she added "U never told me about Ginni too,did u? Until recently? "Now,he repeated "I just didn't think it was important enough. I mean,we both have too many friends. Can't tell each other all of their names,can we? Wud take a year almost." Sumona laughed,loudly. "Very clever,Sharmaji." He grinned " I know I am clever. Bas duniya wale hi nai mante hain" At this,they both ended up laughing.
On the other hand,the others were getting to know govind. He told them all about himself and Sumona,and was very friendly wid all of them. They were beginning to like him a lot. Summing up some courage,he asked them "Is something going on wid those two? I'm pretty sure,just confirming." All of them nodded at once,and Preeti said sarcastically "Duh,good realisation. U sure R a good observer." Govind laughed and said to them " Ur boss is really mean." wid innocence. They all giggled and he earned a hit on his arm from Preeti at that. Suddenly,Chandan noticed the glum expression of Ginni at their talk. He sent her an enquiring look and she just shrugged. He decided to leave it at that. He had a hunch that there was something between her and Kapil,but what exactly it was he didn't know. Meanwhile,the others continued talking and eating their meal. Govind also joined them as his duty was over.
Meanwhile,Kapil and sumona's talk was over,because at the moment they had nothing more to say to each other. They did have a lot of thoughts,feelings and emotions racing through their entire soul,but no words to express them. Then,suddenly Kapil remembered that actions speak louder than words. He reached out and caught sumona's arm,who was about to leave and rejoin their table. She turned back in surprise. However,what surprised her more was Kapil's next action. He laid a soft,long kiss on her cheeks,then her eyes,nose and finally her forehead. And then he hugged her securely and whispered in her hair"I'm sorry for behaving like a jerk. I really am. Now I will try to be good. No promises,though. That Govind annoys the hell out of me." Sumona shook wid laughter at that. "U r forgiven. Now,release me and let's go back to the table before they start their own assumptions abt what we r doing here since so long." He laughed wid her and taking her hand he led her back to the table. The others saw them coming. All of their reactions were different. Preeti,Ali and chandan shouted "Oooh", Govind was shaking wid quite laughter and winked at Sumona,even Ginni cudnt resist teasing Kapil,regardless of everything. Sumona and Kapil rolled their eyes. Yep,they were here with a mad bunch.
Then,they all returned to their hotel,including Govind who was also staying there for the next 2 days before moving towards the other parts of Punjab. That,in fact was the plan of Kapil and the others as well,to stay there for a while and then go to other places. So,we r stuck wid him for a while,Kapil thought resentfully. He cudnt do anything abt it,Govind was sumona's friend and he didn't want to upset her. Also,he had to try to be good,as he had promised. When they finally reached the hotel,they were greeted in the lobby by the manager. "Hey all! Hope u r having a good stay. I wud like to inform u that we r having a huge party here tomorrow eve. All of u r invited to come,it's our 30th anniversary. It is going to be rocking. And oh,if u can get someone as a date,it wud be all the more better as we have a romantic theme in mind." All of them agreed enthusiastically as they loved parties. However,a few of them were quietly thinking who to bring as their 'date,' and how the evening wud turn out. They were sure it wudnt be any normal party. It was gonna be extraordinary and historic in all ways,good and bad. Those ppl were namely Kapil and Sumona. All of them were exhausted and tired. They quickly retired to their rooms and the lights were turned off. Tomorrow was a another day,and it was sure to bring about lots of surprises.
