A drop of mercury is accidently released in the ocean and it sinks. Calculate the percentage change in the volume of drop of mercury when it is at adepth of 1.0km below the ocean surface. Use a value of 1025kg/m^3 for the density of ocean water.

Let Ko = k.e. at equilibrium
K1 = k.e. when the object is at height x1 below the equilibrium
x1 = 5.9 cm = 0.059 m

Ko = K1 + 1/2 * k * x1^2
Ko - K1 = 1/2 * k * x1^2
= 1/2 * 25 * 0.059^2
= 4.35 * 10^-2 J (Answer)

P1 V1 = P2 V2
V2/V1 = P1/P2
V2/V1 - 1 = P1/P2 - 1
V2/V1 - 1 = (P1 - P2)/P2
Substitute P2 = P1 + rho*g*h

V2/V1 - 1 = -rho*g*h/(P1+rho*g*h)
Substitute rho = 1025 kg/m^3, g = 9.8 m/s^2, h = 1000 m, P1 = 101325 Pa

V2/V1 - 1 = -rho*g*h/(P1+rho*g*h) = -0.99
(V2/V1 - 1)*100 = -99
% change in volume = 99 %

Ans: 99 %

hery can someone help me with math problems am stuck and need help:l...
okii u have to put them in standard form and then graph them

1). (x+1)(x-2)(x-1)
2). (x+2)(x-2)(x+3)
3). (x-1)^3+1
4). 2(x+2)^3-2

thnks sooo much
need it by monday😛

@priya_94,
Do you know what is meant by standard form? Any examples?
What method do you have to use to graph? There are different ways, what method do you have to use?
Do you have to graph in graph paper or just show rough graph in any piece of paper?

Expand each one
1) y = (x^2 - 2x + x - 2)(x-1)
y = (x^2 - x - 2)(x-1)
y = x^3 - x^2 - x^2 - 2x + 2
y = x^3 - 2x^2 - 2x + 2

2) y = (x^2 - 4)(x+3)
y = x^3 + 3x^2 - 4x - 12

3) y = x^3 - 3x^2 + 3x - 1 + 1
y = x^3 - 3x^2 + 3x

4) y = 2(x+2)^3 - 2
y = 2(x^3 + 6x^2 + 12x + 8) - 2
y = 2x^3 + 12x^2 + 24x + 14

Make a table of x, y values. Put different values of x, some positive, some negative and also put 0. For each calculate y. Then plot the points and join them by hand by a smooth curve.

Hey I really need help with English, actually we read the story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty...
http://142.23.40.13/big/english/stories/WalterMitty.pdf
And I'm doing Questions 1 through 5. And I really need help with them because teacher wants us to tag the story(genre), and start out like In the Story "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", by James Thurber...
Also some of the questions just don't seem to make sense, the story is also wierd. I'll PM you my answers later this afternoon, its 1:08 pm here right now, maybe at 3:30. Till then if anyone could go through the story that would be great. Thanks in Advance :)

I read the story a few times. Type your answers, so I can check.
