RULES-Does anyone care?

First of all I thank Debasree for opening a thread asking to restrict Newbies from opening random threads. But is anyone looking at the forum rules?
In the last few days I have closed several new threads opened for one-line queries and some redundand A-T topics. I am growing tired of this.
Now I see a birthday thread opened for someone who is a member's friend. Whose birthday is it? Is that person a member of this forum? Is anyone having the mere courtesy to look at the rules? Does it make sense to open a thread for some arbitrary person who is never seen on this forum? There are some ex-members whose birthday threads are being opened (for eg Debayon). The member him/herself has no time to come and respond to the thread, then why open it? Then there are some members who pop in just on their birthday and send me angry PMs because I didn't open a thread. Come on...if they are not active here, how will I know they will visit? The reply is that they are 'silent' and come every week to download Daya caps. How am I supposed to know that?
Then there are some members who keep scrapping and PMing and asking (sorry demanding is a better word) why I don't reply. Come on, please respect everyone's preferences. It's not that I hate you or that I only reply to my friends. It's just that I don't check scraps that often. Also I don't come here to chat with random people and make friends. If you become active here and I find that many of our ideas match we may become friends in future.
There is one person who creates a new id every weekend and posts some video links, which is clearly against rules. I have to raise the WL and delete the thread EVERY saturday morning. There's no point, the person is back with a new id next week.
I wonder if the rules thread is to be placed under Forum Imp topics at all. No one cares to look at them. Maybe it's better to keep it as a running thread which is active, so that some people pay some attention when it comes to page 1.
Please pay attention to the rules!!! I expect all 'silent' members and newbies to read the rules and hit 'like' to this post. If anyone breaks the rules and I close their thread without any information, please don't complain or send angry PMs/scraps.

Vis I understand your plight. But Rules are an integral part of the forum and have to be there. Many people dont brother to follow rules in our society too but that does not mean we should remove them.

If we do that anarchy will prevail

To these people who PM and scrap her demanding things I would like to say that she is only a DT member and is guided by IF code of conduct. She also has a personal life. Ofcourse if we want to know something we have to PM her but please dont PM her on trivial issues\\

My personal experience says that IF is more enjoyable if one stayes within rules

Thanks Vis for this thread. It was so badly needed. I totally agree with what you've posted here. A newbie must Visit the rules and regulations thread before opening a new one. Rather as I stated there in the thread Deba opened .. not just limited to newbies .. anyone must atleast participate in some threads and discussions of the forums before starting 1 themselves

About Birthday thread it is a sensitive matter so i dnt comment on that...but yeah i think opening thread should be restricted one...

Another thing i want to mention here...in every week we open a TRP thread or we are one the top like this...Why should not there is one thread for TRPs which should be maintained by one person & every week the person update the thread...
Same thing about the articles or reviews...

I mean we have to more organize to open the thread...

Birthday threads ... well if the person is somewhat active then definitely it should be opened .. there's no harm atleast .. but if the person has left or doesn't visit IF anymore then no use .. it at times is quite embarassing when you open a birthday thread and the person doesn't even come for saying 'thanks' ... anyways chodo .. Birthdays and all ko
In general there should be a limit on the no. Of posts by a newbie before they open a new thread.

Even active members .. a person should be generally active .. visit other threads too apart from just one or 2 threads .. take part in discussions etc. ... if there's someone who just sticks to the GD thread or maybe just the aditya dayanand thread ot any other for that matter .. the person really can't be considered as an active member.

sometimes i have seen newbies/groupbies opening some intelligent discussions, but most of the time, we have to deal with irrelevant threads... & TRPs should be in one & only thread... where someone will update it...

i can't say much about the b'day...but if someone is not part of the forum, then why should a thread be opened? no offense to anyone...

also, the groupbies are only 50 posts old... so a rule can be made like this : any thread opened by anyone below 300 posts has to be confirmed by the Development Team first ---- then it can be posted...

another rule can be made : for PMing the viewbie, one has to be at least a groupbie.

Come on...this need not be a rule. Anyone is welcome to PM me and if someone sends me something which I don't like, I have the option of not responding. I will never encourage such strict rules.
if someone has a genuine concern, irrespective of their ladder status they should be able to PM anyone.
The persons actually PMing me about the birthday threads etc are not newbies, you know...I don't want to mention names here.

@vis - but something has to be done... i think, an option can be developed regarding the subject of the PM... now we write the subjects on our own... with some new rule, the subjects can be chosen from some categories.... it will restrict people from PMing over irrelevant matters...

the same thing can be done in the case of thread opening too... one has to choose the subject from the categories... in this way, the new thread problem can be solved...

That's ok Anonymous, we can't make this place too formal. Already some people are complaining about too many rules. The trouble is that some people just lack basic courtesy while PMing. We can't do anything about it.
