DAYA was addressing ABHIJIT as SIR

In some old episodes, I noticed that Daya was addressing Abhijit as SIR! Can anyone tell me, what was the rank of Abhijit in that time? And when did Daya get the post of Senior Inspector, the same post with Abhijit?

Looking at older episode (current re-runs from 1999), we can see that Daya Sir started his career as Police Sub-Inspector (SI). Even Asha was SI. Sudhakar and Freddie, I am not sure may be they were Assistant Police Sub-Inspector. And Abhijit was possibly Police Inspector who is second only to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). However, looking at Indian Police Rank Structure on Wikipedia, I don't see any Rank called - Senior Inspector. My guess is People who are in service for long as called so but that is not a rank, i could be wrong. Possibly that is why Daya Sir said 'Inspector Daya reporting'.

Hey Yaah! I too was wondering this. From the beginning to till now, it seems like that Daya is junior to Abhi in rank...as their rank is inspector and senior inspector.

I never knew Daya was Senior inspector. They always introduce themselves as 'Senior Inspector Abhijeet' and 'Inspector Daya'. See even the episode after the Behroopiya one. Daya walks in after getting discharged from the hospital and says 'Inspector Daya reporting'.

Abhijeethas always beensenior in rank. But they are friends, so no formality now.

Thanks a lot yaar for clearing this confusion. First I thought that Daya has ranked up...but again I used to think that they are very good friends..so they address themselves with their names as their ranks are not the same..

Whatever...actually I like this pair of Daya-Abhijeet. Like that the one is incomplete without the other..Really friendship pair is very sweet to watch on TV... I wish they were good friends also off screen.!!

Currently they are running 1999 Episodes where we see Abhi Sir after his memory loss incident. In one of the cases yesterday Daya Sir introduced himself as Sub-Inspector. I clearly saw that. So he was not promoted immediately after Abhi Sir entered for sure. If the episodes came in sequence we could have see how Daya-Abhi relationship grew. This haphazard transmission with no sequence does not help.
