Misti liked ur review and I am sure all points r discussed today was a light episode and everyone having their chance to speak. Now one thing why is the Klady talking about the low caste Abhay wheras never it has been shown that she is aware of him the lover of Kanika and telling chachu about unfinished business.😲😕 or did I miss something somewhere.Since last week story was moving bit fast so probably it will end though there r lots of unfinished tracks have to see whether they will complete them or not.Me also watched the sat and mon episode of uttaran and liked the way the earlier closures where happening.

This quirk visit has naturally drawn me to Misti's article, having read her poem thread occasionally.

The subsequent reply posts here show how your group is going to miss this well put out 'istyle' satire with its extravagant dollops of yellows, along with the 'source'.

But real reason, over all this boring explanation to post a reply here, is an unchecked, childish desire to point out a truly class apart product in this genre to some one as discerning as Why3 when I witness you comparing the merits of other serial 'Utran'- another long drawn out affair with its fair share of humbug storylines even though it may have flashes of brilliance occasionally. No offence please.

'Meri Zaat Zarra a Benishaan'- a recently concluded, 20 episode, Pakistani Serial, has just opened my eyes to how very sharp they can become in all aspects of making a T.V.Drama-Storyline, Castings, Acting, Editing, conception, direction. A true classic, easily available on you tube with name and episode no. Though somewhat poor quality on You tube and yet more satisfying then watching a nicely made Hindi Movie. Checking even one or two episodes should clearly show the superiority of this product. Our 'K serials' or Utrans pales miserably in comparison.

In the end, do excuse me for this unwarranted intrusion. I do mean no offence.

Hi Samarth nice to see you visiting. I don't know about Why3 but for me these three episodes of Uttaran worked because they gave an emotional closure to the audience. Uttaran has loads of lousy tracks and illogical writing. Their main female negative lead was given the freedon to rule the roost (that was my reason for not watching the show) but they did show her face the family's anger and disgust in these three episodes. In CB we have never had any emotional closure regarding anything. That is why I feel empty when any of the tracks finishes. Here the person who burned another person alive is still roaming free with no sign of any punishment by the scoiety, family or law. Most probably nothing will happen to her and that irritates and angers most of the people watching CB.
I watched the serial that you recommended and liked it for its subtle handling of the story. We used to have serials like that earlier in India. This is the first hindi serial that I have watched in the past 10 years and it has been a sharp learning curve for me. I have grown up watching serials like Malgudi Days, Udaan, Katha Saagar, Buniyaad, Wagle ki Duniya, Idhar Udhar and miss those stories a lot.

Please bear with me but why is it that Abhay feels its okay to marry Kanika when he has slept with Radhika. Isn't that deceiving Kanika? If he is this obligated to the scary lady in black shouldn't he feel guilty for sleeping with a woman who in his mind is not his wife and in the process he is being unfair to the scary lady's daughter not to mention Radhika? Or has it all been explained in the show?

Misti, loved your humorous take as usual.

Rajsri, my friend, so wonderful to see you back.

You are welcome Angake, regarding Abhay his POV was shown on monday where he is telling Radhika that he feels that he is being pulled apart by the two families and he feels guilty for betraying MR family and his "wife" for sleeping with Radhika, but he calmly dumped the fault on Radhika.😡

Thanks Chalhov. I think the klady is aware of the real Abhays existance......I mean Kannika did tell her before the entire story and the unfinished business was to tell Rajjan to finish him off.........so that there will be no chance of anyone finding out the real Abhay because that will be disasterous for her plans.

MIsti great hilarious review.

Angie nice post. I think in CB CV's did not had any intentions to show Amma ill deeds coming into the light. The CV's were in so much in love with Amma's character that they thought that they still can use Amma to taunt Radh in future. Atleast if they had any idea of it we would have seen some investigation as u metioned, but no. Still we dont see anything of Amma, when there are rumours that CB is going to end.
And i feel even at this point if CV's tried to highlight Amma's paaps it would very disjointed as the track has moved to very far. and even if they show Amma exposed then when we'll get to see the remorse of Amma???
If only CV's could have little concentrated on the truth coming out track and not making the main characters so dumbheads that they couldnt even suspect what went in their house...then it would have made a huge difference in the story right now, atleast there would have been some sense in the storyline.

Smrt,

I get your viewpoint. I tried replying you back few times yesterday, but somehow got interrupted and didn't finish the thought. Misti wrote several of my points that I was planning to write.

I don't think Uttaran or any other serial is good. In fact, I didn't like Uttaran's storyline where the guy was deceived so badly and there was no remorse on Iccha's part at all. But, like Misti I compared the disclosure with CB's disclosure of first wedding truth and that's where the serial was good in last 3 days.

Misti has talked about old Doordarshan serials that were not driven by TRPs and had fixed no. of episodes alloted to them. So, the beginning, middle and end were planned properly in advance and hence were great.

In capitalism, everything is driven by supply and demand. Initially, the demand was for Saas-bahu type serials (hated them intensely and never watched them) and there was so much supply and then numerous clones that audience got tired of them. Last year, colors and other channels started non Saas-bahu type stuff and again audience came back. But, after a year, it is back to the formulas. So, until people get thoroughly tired of them and I see signs of it already with TRPs for even top shows around 4.0, they will churn out this stuff.

I personally think there should be a limit for these shows such as give them a year and they have to show the entire story in those shows. That would probably create more quality. But, again it is a free market and hence the supply would be driven by demand.

One day, I was comparing American prime time shows with Indian prime time shows and lamenting that why can't Indian soaps sustain for more than a year these days. Then, my husband who does not watch any of Hindi soaps pointed out a valid point. He said that all American prime time shows are shown once a week and after five years or so, even the top prime time shows start getting stale. So, that way a show that has already shown 300 or so episodes is bound to get monotonous. So, that way if you have a daily soap, then there is not much story to tell after 300 episodes and they should think about wrapping it up. So, either make them weekly shows and show more quality or they should be wrapped up in year or year and a half at most.

Coming back to CB, they were good until last summer, stretched the marriage sequence (but it was still mostly good quality as they showed Radhika becoming confident slowly from Dev's love), but they did not need to show the burning sequence. Instead, it should have been a proper wedding and then they should have concentrated on closing all loose ends from last year with the truth coming out about the three Shastri women. They didn't do that and instead first stretched the SR for three months and then had disastrous disclosures that left audience really feeling mad and empty.

They could have still wrapped up the serial by September, but if only they had done it properly by wrapping up everything. Then, the audience get the feeling that it was worth spending time on it.

Mishti and Angake,

I swore I will not comment on the show but I could not hold back. I have one comment for the CVs.....
The CVs sure have their moral heads screwed on wrong....
Morality and amnesia are two different issues. Dev becoming Abhay is acceptable. Abhay having ehsaas of being Dev is also acceptable. But for Abhay to sleep with Radhika knowingly is NOT acceptable, amnesia or not. And then to talk of morality after the deed is a slap in Radhika's face. Abhay calling sleeping with Radhika a "mistake" is a slap in ANY WOMAN's face.
Dev was always a moral person and if Abhay calls himself a moral person, then he needs to be aware of his morality AT ALL TIMES and also keep his pants zippered AT ALL TIMES, amnesia or not. I have ABHORRED the term "mistake" used by CVs in dialogues after the deed is done. It cheapens the act for Radhika and turns it into a promiscuous act!

@Misti

Thanks for remembering,-those veiled vowels.😃

Many of the serial you mentioned formed my own growing up experience with this form of media. I'd add two another fav. from that time- Bharat ek khoj- with some really interesting episodes and Dekh bhai dekh- for its suave and yet crude but somewhat innocent urbane humour.

About Utran, I never liked their pretentious plot. As like many other fleeting watches courtesy mom, I watched it cursorily in early days, but quickly put off when in their attempt to glorify the virtues of less privileged, they started mauling the character of the rich friend who, in the process, had become the victim of her own 'kindness'.

But more interesting should be your impressions on that other serial, about which I do want to speak more exuberantly if allowed. Why? Even I'd wonder, but ultimately I place it to a general tendency of sharing something beautiful, with sort of a logic- A tasty dish is relished more extensively if savoured collectively. Isn't it?

You might be in for a surprise here.............or again a carrot atleast.😉..........and I don't want any remorse from that woman...want her to be insulted in public by her own son and straight in jail....nothing else will satisfy me.
