DEvki always required a scape goat to run and hide behind. She has always been projected as a weak person. She did appear to have some guilt feelings atleast and not as evil as amma or Vishaka.

1) She definitely wanted to tell the purohits that it was Radhika who married Dev and not Vishaka. Originally Vishaka did not want to marry Dev and had she got the movie part she may well have sent Radhika on her bidaai , but snce she wanted money to get into the movies she wanted to stay married to dev and therefore amma could bully everybody else. In this Vishaka and amma are the biggest culprits and both don't show any respect for morality and principles and dharm.

2) Devki though she got bullied, in her own way tlks to Shastriji about the bridal exchange happening in some other house-hold and getting his opinion. She does realise it is a mistake and is shown to be guilty, whereas amma just tells that Radhika is only a stone representation of Vishaka in the marriage and hence dismisses the matter totally.

3) When the Shastri women try to get Radhika married to Keshav, Radhika refuses on the ground that she cannot allow her father to do another adharm and threatens to reveal if she is compelled. Devki did feel for her then but once again a silent spectator.

4) When the Haridwar marriage of Dev and Vishaka did not happen and the ulte phere rasam of Dev and Radhika also failed Devki started realising in totality that Dev-Radhika relationship cannot be broken and then she got the courage to ask Radhika to reveal the truth to Dev during the phool-bangla.

Radhika was able to recognise that her mother though was not a bold person was able to feel for her and that is the reason she thinks she is like Yashoda maiya. It is Definitely a fact that had Shastriji not forced Devki to tell the truth whether she would have told the truth is still a doubt. Once again she fell for the bullying of amma.

Has the time come for Radhika to walk on the path of truth and expose amma totally in front of the Vrindavan crowd and save her parents. She needs to have gratitude towards them, certainly not amma. She anyhow has Dev by her side she needs to go hammer and thongs on amma and ensures that a fitting punishment is meted out to her.

The two adults on that scene were amma and Devki.......by adults I mean people with experience in life. Radhika and Vishaka are both victims of amma and amma has used both of them to keep an upperhand.....her support of Vishaka is not due to the fact that Vishaka is her favourite and that she loves Vishaka more but becuase she hates Radhika more and does not want Radhika to be happy. She abused Radhika and also in one way abused Vishaka........too much love can also kill a person. Its something like too much water can kill a plant...it actually rots the plant. Devki was the mother here.........just because your child wants something that does not mean that you have to give it to her. One has to use their own judgement. Although Devki knew that what she is doing is wrong, she chose to keep quiet. That choice was hers........The person who is responsible for this mess is amma and to some extent Devki. She chose to keep quiet because she wanted the easy way out.

I am not going to talk about amma..........she is beyond any discussion for me. I do know that Devki indirectly asked Shastriji for his opinion and then again chose to remain quiet. Whats the use of realising ones mistake if one does not do anything about it?

Thats it.....again although she flet something but she again chose to remain quiet.

I think the ulte phere happened after the phool bangla episode. when the haridwarmarriage did not happen Devki and amm landed in PB......that was the time Dev got sick....then after that there was the phool bangla episode.........Devki saw Radhika and Dev there and realsied that something is there between them and then asjked Radhika about it.....Radhika broke down and told her evryhting and then again Devki felt guilty.......so she wanted to say........again she chose to remain quiet...then Radhika went back to PB.......after some time Devki told amma that she was wrong in letting Radhika go back to PB and that she should have listened to amma.........and thats when amma came up with this ulta-phere thing.....which coincided with vat savitri pooja.

Devki is no Yashoda who always treated Krishna as her own son.....infact to her he was her son and she never abused him. Devki has manipulated and joined in Radhika being abused.........so there is no comparison here. Radhika knows that Devki is a meek and spineless person and thats why she is protective about Devki..........because that is what Radhika is.

How much more does Radhika need to do show her grattude to the Shastris? They are the parents........Radhika is not the parent here. When people have kids they don't think that I will have kids because the kid then will be gratefull towards me throught out their life. When Shatriji brought Radhika home then it was his duty to see that she is treated equally .............this never happened. Radhika was a glorified slave.The shastris failed miserably as parents. Radhika has showed her gratitude towards the shastris throughout her life and thats it.........Enough is enough. But amma does need to be exposed in front of society and it will be good if Devki does that.

Ioved her powerful performance when she reveals the truth about first marriage and how she confronted Amma ..... so here are some stars and cheers for Samta Sagar, the actress ...

Abali it not that Devki disclosed the first marriage truth..it is the reasons behind why she did it and how she did it. If she had done it to give Radhika her right, then it would have been a different matter..........if after telling the truth she would have also said that Radhika always wanted to say but I stopped her........then it would have been a different matter.........she did none of these things.........she said the truth because her husband demanded the truth and for her own peace and security she did not want to harm her husband at that time.......also after telling the truth.........she conveniently told that because of society she and Radhika kept quiet. So ther lies the difference. Devki has manipulated Radhika whenever she could.........it is only when shastriji put his foot down that she supported Radhika. So to me she is not a positve influence in Radhikas life. ..........all this is for her meek and spineless nature. I think the creatives have been pretty good regarding Devkis character..........they have always showed her as a weak and spineless woman..........and they have been pretty consistent about her nature. Even if they have shown her taken positive steps they have also tried to show that it is because of her stand in society, that is linked to Shastriji....that she is taking all those steps.........its got nothing to do with the fact that she has changed. Atleast until now thats what have got from them.

As for Samta Sagar the actress.........like all the actors she also has done a pretty good job. The good thing about DJs is that they have managed to employ an excellent group of actors who have been true to the characters that they have to portray..........thats the reason why the audience have got such strong reactions to the characters. It is another thing that they did not use the same thought process to employ the creative team (at least the second group), director and editor.

Devki is not evil like Amma and has conscience, but she is no great mother. Only after Vishaka ran away to Mumbai and Radhika saved Shastriji, she changed towards Radhika.

Earlier instances of her discrimination and here I am not talking about not standing up for Radhika like during the first wedding or when she was being abused by Amma.

1. Radhika sleeping on the floor, Vishaka on the bed. She would give milk to Vishaka but not Radhika at night. Whenever she was leaving her house, she would ask Radhika to take care of Vishaka and make sure that Vishaka has her lunch or dinner or whatever.

2. She kept Radhika hidden from Dev after the first wedding so that even advertently Dev doesn't find out that he married Radhika.

3. When Radhika went to meet Dev at the ghat and told him the lie about getting married to someone else, Devki saw them together and was suspicious. She later on admonished Radhika for trying to meet with Dev and breaking Devki's trust.

4. During phool bangla, she sent Amma to Radhika and had no courage to tell her that Devki has changed her mind. When Amma slapped Radhika for trying to tell the truth, there was no reaction from Devki. Instead, she told Amma that she would make sure that Radhika understands that she can't tell the truth. Later on, when Dev asked her about what Radhika wanted to tell him, she told him that Radhika is concerned that he doesn't take care of Vishaka and should concentrate on his wife. Eventually, when Radhika wants to go back to Dev's house, she holds her hand and makes her feel guilty about trying to destroy Vishaka's life by staying close to Dev. It was another matter that Radhika at that time was shown to be strong enough to stand her ground.

5. Then the whole trying to get Dev married to Vishaka by deception and then trying to break Radhika and Dev's marriage.

6. When the PF was abusing Radhika for meeting with Purab, kept quiet and brought her back to Vrindavan.

7. Trying to get Radhika married to the old guy and then Keshav forcefully (even Devki was asking Radhika to do it).

8. Lying to Keshav when he found out that Dev and Radhika loved each other. She told him that it was just an attraction and he should try to win Radhika's love and get married to her. Actually, at that time Radhika called Devki and told her off for doing this to another person (Keshav).

9. Trying to get her married again after Radhika took off her sindoor and only backed off when Radhika tthreatened her with revealing the truth to Shastriji.

10. When Radhika left home after Dev decided to divorce Vishaka, Shastriji started going out to search for Radhika. Devki stopped him by saying that he is not well enough and not to look for Radhika. It was only after Shastriji accused her of discriminating between Radhika and Vishaka that she relented.

11. Finally, Devki only told the truth after Shastriji forced her and if he wasn't there, she would have lied again. Even then she made it seem as if she and Radhika did it to save the respect of two families whereas it was only Radhika who did that.

So, Devki in my opinion may feel Radhika's pain because she has some conscience unlike Amma and Vishaka, but she is weak and looks for her own interests. She did change later on, but there was never any recognition on her part that Dev's family will not even be associated with her family and Vishaka if it wasn't for Radhika.

Angie l I don't know who is more evil.......is it amma who does all these things but is open about her hatred regarding Radhika. She has been succesful because Radhika and Devki have protected her.......whereas is it Devki who has always shown that to her Radhika is her own daughter, but has used and manipulated Radhika whever she could. Truthfully I will prefer to deal with amma than Devki..........simply because I know what to expect from amma but Devki is another matter.

Agree with you Mishti on the fact that it is better to deal with amma. It is known what is in her mind and the extent to which she can go, this is more because she is more open about her hatred towards Radhika. One can choose to either completely side-line her and ignore her or take matters to task and ensure that proper punishment is given to her. Having said this, Radhika will choose to ignore her while when the secrets start tumbling one by one, it is Dev who will be furious with Amma for the havoc created in his and Radhika's life and therefore may be instrumental to see a befitting punishment is awardedto her.

Devki is more difficult to handle. She is a perfect pendulum and can sway under pressure. She is the one who has shown some semblance of guilt as compared to Vishaka or amma. Devki, while telling the truth did down-play all that happened and therefor ehas left the viewers dissatisfied. Will she bold enough to bring the other truths into the open and thus absolve herself completely and in the bargain face the wrath of Shastriji's anger and the society is still a question which she only has to answer.
