"The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,
But in ourselves, that we are underlings."
Julius Ceaser Act 1, Scene 2
This sentence is uttered by Cassius to his friend Brutus and he is trying to persuade Brutus that in the interest of Rome, Julius Ceaser should be stopped from becoming the emperor. Brutus is caught in between Caeser and Rome. Cassius reminds Brutus that since all men are equal why one man should bow done to another. This quote can also be interpreted to mean that fate is not what drives men to their decisions and actions, but rather the human condition.
The reason I am using this quote is because this reminded me of Devki…….it is not in Devkis fate that she is like this but her weak, spineless nature has led he to this condition. Devkiji has always tried to take the easy way out and has manipulated others for her own peace and good. She might be saying that she has done all this for her husband but actually it is for herself. She did not care when Radhika was being abused, infact she even joined in the manipulations…..she only spoke the truth when she was forced to by her husband……….same with Vishaka, never cared that her daughter is becoming more and more self centered and selfish and dumped her at the earliest opportunity….did not dump her when she did wrong but dumped her when her own position in society was harmed………..and today she did not care to stand back and face the crowd in front of her husband……….but ran to hide behind someone whom she knows is very evil.
So Devkiji is not only a failure as a mother, but is also a failure as a wife and the biggest failure is that she is a failure as a human being.
