Some members have asked me to make a separate post of my response to the question so copy pasting it here, please do continue the discussion.

------------

Rima, I am posting on your thread because I think you wrote out of a genuine desire to see Sanaya's talent getting recognized within the TV industry and getting individual recognition for her acting skills. I am there with you, I was very disappointed that she did not get one single award for her previous performance, even though she portrayed it almost perfectly. She was not even nominated for some awards.

There could be many reasons, the genre of the show, TRP ( which was good, but never the top and then it slid), lobbying done by channel and PH etc. The character never got as many props or dramatic sequences as the hero and the last few months Khushi lost all the spunk and she was reduced to buffoonery and OTT comedy in lame tracks. Tracks like hate marriage where she could have got more depth, meaningful dramatic scenes instead were used for comic relief and Khushi's pain was never properly shown or expressed. I read so many posts where people who used to like a strong Khushi were disappointed and even irritated by the OTT. Despite this Sanaya made a mark as Khushi and gave diginity to the character and that is a testimony to her talent. Despite poor writing for her character in the latter half of the show, Sanaya managed to salvage it.

Coming to Chhanchhan, I wanted to see Sanaya in an author backed role where she is in the central character. So, when this show came along I was excited and to see the promos which revolved her made me doubly happy. I agree that this show seems to have been put together in a hurry and initial couple of months were very shaky. From their choice of male lead, to the story development and romance track were messed up and consequently they lost viewership. However, I think, the PH and channel are receptive to feedback and trying to improve things...male lead has changed, writers and director have changed and I feel there is scaling down of UB from total black to grey and they are introducing some humour to her antics. So, there is improvement overall, now how much these changes will help, time will tell.

I also feel that the makers should start giving Chhanchhan more spunk and agency where she slowly but surely starts unraveling the problems of Borisagar family and deals with them. She is too much of a goody two shoes right now, which is OK, but she should also start getting doubts about UB soon enough. Right now the makers are focusing on CC finding her feet at her in-laws so I guess they cannot show a direct confrontation, but wheels should start turning in her mind that all is not what it seems at Borisagar's.

The romance part I think they are emphasizing because in the beginning of the show the track of ChanMan falling in love was badly executed and her previous co-star did not help matters, infact most ardent followers of the show were not convinced of ChanMan love and why Chhanchhan would agree to be UB's DIL. So this romance, quiet support and communication they show between Manav and Chhanchhan is to build their love story which is necessary to understand why an educated professional like Chhanchhan will go through the wringer for this relationship. Chhanchhan is not the type to go through humiliation and remain in sasural, like other TV bahus, she also has support of Sarabhais if things go wrong, so the only reason for her wanting to make this marriage work has to be matters of heart. They need to show the growing love between the newly weds to understand why Chhanchhan is ready to make so many adjustments. Most of us bend over backwards for people we love, even doing things sometimes we think we are not capable of. Now, if the belly chain part was overboard or not is an individual choice and I am not here to do moral policing. This new jodi is also being liked and accepted by audience, clear from the first jodi nomination it already got, so why won't the CVs use it. Lastly, when they brought in a new actor they have to establish his chemistry with Sanaya, so the audience forgets the previous guy and accepts the new one. It has just been over a month since Anuj arrived.

Another issue which is being raised is that it was supposed to be a remake of "Khubsurat" movie. I do not remember reading any official statement about it either on channel website or PH nor did Sanaya and Supriya Pathak ever mention it. It was the media which was speculating about it, as they do with so many other things, and many seem to have taken that as a fact. The first blurb I read about this show was about a free spirited girl who is a dog trainer getting married into a conservative household and the 30 day MIL challenge to oust her which is where we are now.

That said, can things be done better...YES. There is lot of scope for improving the writing and characterization and like I wrote previously Chhanchhan needs to get more spunk, chutzpah and agency, not always remain a goody two shoes and truly become a modern bahu. Maybe we are heading there as slowly the layers get peeled off and Chhanchhan starts figuring things out. This show is not a pathbreaker nor is it pushing the envelope, it is just aimed to be a light entertainer with some social messages being included. Will this project push Sanaya's acting capabilities to the maximum, I am not sure but if dealt well it can definitely win some hearts.

About Sanaya choosing this show, I am not going to second guess her, as I do not know all the circumstances and what transpired, but in the end she got two solid offers, this one and another intense love story. She said in her interviews she wanted to explore new genres and stories and I say more power to her. Television shows are very limited in their range and storytelling styles so within that Sanaya is trying to be as versatile as possible. I appreciate and respect that. Hindsight is 20/ 20, no actor signs a project knowing it will not work. Everyone puts in their work earnestly hoping for the best. She has said that she found the narration interesting and was hoping it is executed well. I disagree with few here who say she looks disinterested or not putting in her all, I feel she is working hard and giving it her all. If the character is not clicking with some it does not mean Sanaya is not working hard. From whatever little I know of her, she is not the type to compromise her work and is fully dedicated to the project she takes up. She even gave up JDJ for this show. With the script she is provided she is doing very well.

Shows are team effort and no one person can make it work nor should credit for it's success be given to one. Actors like Sanaya take risks to be versatile and sometimes it works and at others times it does not. However, the fear of losing fans or popularity should not be a reason for sticking to safe options. Sanaya is a talented actor and I am sure she will take up many more interesting roles in her career and some will pay off and others not so much. That is a life of any actor. Chhanchhan is not an end all for her. Sanaya has signed this project and I am sure she will stick with it till the end and give it her best shot. If eventually it works out... great, if not she will be back with something else. She is a very intelligent woman and I am sure she will take this show as another learning experience as she does with everything else.

Every show has its own destiny and no one can predict what clicks with the viewers. Some of the TRP topping shows right now are so unrelatable to me, yet there are enough people who are clearly hooked to them, so who am I to judge. Some good shows with a strong storyline and good actors faced early closure recently, so one can never predict these things.

Constructive criticism and discussion of the content of the show is important, so threads like these can be helpful to get the message across to makers as to what is working and what is not.

Beautifully replied di!!

Other than for Rima di & Fari and a very few others i wasn't very sure if i was to take the responses very seriously or not...Considering no1 else cribbing are visible providing support for the show on this forum in any case. So 'we still support only for Sanaya' line clearly doesn't apply to many. Not all I would like to emphasize.. there probably r many genuine responses..though most obviously not all..

Anyway I agree word to word.
(to tis reply i mean)

First thing, I would like to address an issue. Awards

case in point - ITA awards best actress popular - Sandya from DABH
Now this is not done to put any1 down, but well for me at least the authenticity of awards shows' selections was defined with this. Now had either Sanaya or DD had gotten the award, I would have accepted. yes I am only a SI fan, but nothing else needs to be said than this example on why awards shows NEVER is actually about the ACTRESS who essays a role.
It is hypocritical that an actress who elevates a mediocre role to heights is disregarded and an actress who brings down a well written role with mediocre acting is felicitated simple cz the show has TRPs.

Thus I have NO expectations towards awards.. cz awards on Indian TV awards shows are NOT given based on an actor/actress's capabilities and talent. Thus in all honestly I will say if Khushi didn't get her that, CC most definitely will not either.

Khushi was a precious jewel of a character, BUT on India TV unless a girl weeps and bends over backwards and is all serious and moans that is not considered jury awards material.
And unless a girl's show is NOT rocking the TRP charts she is not consdered as popular actress material.

THUS both CC nor Khushi falls in to either of the above said categories..

Neither character weeps, moans nor is preachy enough. So they do not comply with the norms expected of the awards winning characters..

An actress's talent nor her portrayal matters, the character does. As unfair and illogical and moronic as it is, that is the bitter truth.

Now coming to CC, well compared with Khushi & Gunjan - two characters I adored, CC seems a little less complicated at word go.

But then again the last thing I would call Gunjan is complicated. Khushi was on the other hand a very complicated character that brought a lot of excess baggage and was weighted down by it.

CC indeed came with a lot of promises which the show utterly failed to deliver for 48 episodes. Beginning with a ML that was not suited to even be a spot boy to direction to script to screen play. it SUCKED.

BUT in all honesty the past one month has been very much uplifting and they have managed to salvage most of the done damage starting with a fabulous male lead who compliments her perfectly from acting to good looks.

Now CC being too white, it does seem so right? But i would like to ask a question. Had we been that simple girl who got married and went there.. Are any of us inherently any different? She seems more compassionate than many..but then again its only to be expected considering her regard to animals, which was a main aspect of her character description.

So far we have not been delivered the full goods, but the going for the past month has been very good.
Its fun to watch.. makes me laugh.

Yes CC seems so perfectly uncomplicated. But as I said unlike Khushi who had a troubled childhood, CC was brought up in the lap of luxury and amidst showers of love and emotional and material security. Why will a girl like that even be complicated?

She is not stupid..But Why will she suspect something at first? In her world so far family simply loved, they didn't play games with other family members. Applying this theory she is indeed reacting as good as expected. She is baffled at somethings but still gives the benefit of the doubt to many things UB does.
She has started noticing more and more irregularities and subconsciously she is marking them. But something big will have to happen for her to open her eyes fully.

And another issue - intro of unnecessary new characters trying to attract attention

This is a false claim - dadaji was on that stage on the day the show was launched. It is a well planned entry timed quite well. 5 days after the marriage (in serial time)
The new girl - um.. i wonder if most of u missed the 30 day challenge that was released as the first description of the show? cz 30 day challenge is the premise of this show. AND on the date when CC got married for the 1st time the 30 day challenge was mentioned in the show. BY UB to the prospective 2nd bride's father.
Now i don't think this new entry is a sudden change of plans either. this was also set in motion simply 5 days back in the show's time.

Anyway the show I accept has quite many mistakes. its not perfect, but then again the TRP toppers right now r unbearable for me while I have actually started enjoying CC.

Now coming to the romance.

1 thing I will agree. It was crass at the beginning. Nope not the couple nor what they did, but the cameraman SUCKED. 1 single scene I still recoil. The 1st night when they wore blue and were in the bedroom and the way the camera panned on the specific body parts was painful to watch.. I cringed. And till today I resolutely keep away from the scene.

BUT from that moment onward I have only seen improvement on the romance department. This show managed to beautifully manage romantic scene from that moment onwards. I heard that a Navya show writer was taken on board to manage romantic scenes and it showed on screen too.

Thus instead of mindless romance it started weaving romance in to day to day mundane activities and started using it to build the understanding and bond of the husband and wife.

I know many like to crib at bold scenes. But well um.. tell me simply a husband touching a wife's tummy and tugging her waist chain, cupping her face, embracing her from the back, hugging each other..are these actually bold?

Once u put away the IPK pink tinted glasses its actually a beautiful and soft love story..

This show may even now have many wrongs and shortcomings but one thing they have perfected is the romantic aspect of it.

They have showed a relationship growing instead of showing mindless passion WHICH would have been so out of context had it been done IN this show, considering its family show genre and not a hardcore star crossed love story where such scenes would actually make sense.

Now coming to Sanaya's own acting. Well CC is too much like Sanaya herself that I think till now whatever was shown Sanaya can do blind folded. It has so far been a cakewalk for her with the character.

And hopefully future situations will arise when her responses will create scenes for Sanaya to emote and utilize her energies and talent more often.

But i would like to ask a simple question - the TRP leader Sandhya the female lead. Is she doing ANY spectacular acting? Is her character in anyway very different? So pathbreaking?

The previous TRP leader and awards winner Gopi from SNS. What did she do for acting? Or even as a character? She cried, she sobbed and she wept and she moaned. And apparently that is the best characters on TV!

So tell me is something like BLACK movie being made on TV? Where we would see a physically challenged character?

Will we see a Naina in Kal Ho Na Ho written for TV? Will we?

Where will an actress of the caliber of Sanaya find a character she can showcase her acting chops at?

Yes I agree she deserves better. BUT is there ANYTHING that is good enough for her right now on TV?
So far I cannot think of a single one..

The day they write a story like that one ArHi FF called 'Vines with thorns' by -Zara-
with a character like the Khushi in it that I will call is a script worth of Sanaya Irani.
Until then i think Sanaya is doing the best she can with the limited options available on TV.
(Arshi FF~Vines With Thorns~ Thread 1 - this is the link if any1 wants, its a physically handicapped character, beautifully written and something I have dreamed of Sanaya playing)

She doesn't want to do a weepy illiterate bahu - she has always been adamant on this
She has done 1 youth show - a college story
She has done 1 star crossed love story

Now with the limited scripts and genres available on TV what does it leave her with? Something exactly like CC isn't it?

So all I can say is Sanaya played diametrically opposed characters in her previous 2 shows. And when she had to pick a 3rd she had the option to either repeat one of them. But instead she did the only change she could.
Both her previous characters were village girls, and this one she picked from a completely differnt background. Thus she tried her best to be versatile in the very limited options on TV..

So I don't know if i answered the question or simply raised many more. But my point is that she sure deserves more. BUT on TV right now seems like there is no other option for her to go to.

I would any day prefer CC over a weepy grubby suppressed village kudi...

Nice post.

I personally feel that the show still has scope for improvement. They have worked on many of the aspects, but there are areas they need to work on. I feel CCs character doesn't have any layers yet and inevitably lessens the impact. The last character she played was layered and the one before that evolved throughout the show, which gave Sanaya plenty of scope to display her talent. I am not one for OTT emotions but somewhere I feel the CVs of CC don't focus on human emotions much. Perhaps they wanted to keep things subtle but it became way too subtle. At least that's how it is for me.šŸ˜• I understand CCs POV and I appreciate her but I still don't feel emotionally attached to her. Sanaya is a remarkable actress with a great range and display of emotions is her forte. I don't feel the character has given her much scope so far.

I really wish to get a glimpse on CCs mind. A little bit of frustration, maybe a little hurt and anger. CC can be the way she is but she certainly can't be above all those human emotions. She was a dog trainer, why did she suddenly give that up? Does she no longer feel the urge to work? CC has been married for a few weeks; so sooner or later she's bound to go through an emotional conflict. I am hoping they would focus on those aspects later.

UB character is still a big question mark for me. They have added a bit of humor to her actions but it still doesn't erase all her negative actions. She way too grey, bordering black and at this point I am unable to see know how she is redeemable. Hopefully there will be a back story and something that will make UBs redemption believable in future.

I agree that there was no direct statement from anyone that this is a remake of Khubsoorat, so I will not go there. But what I really wished to see was a clash of ideologies and so far this has been mostly good vs evil. I didn't really expect a good vs evil in this show so I feel uncomfortable watching UB's actions sometimes.

Irrespective of the genre, every show needs different elements. Romance, drama, comedy all elements are needed because I show cannot survive on just one thing. But I think the makers are still trying to figure out what will really work. The show does have good moments and sparks of creativity but they need to find the right balance of things. They have a good set of actors and I hope everyone is utilized to the fullest, especially Sanaya because she deserves nothing but the best.

It is too early to comment about the new entries but dadaji's entry was always expected. I am fine with the other new entry too, as long the focus doesn't shift entirely from the main track of the show.

Sanaya chose this show to show her versatility and she is sticking to it and for that reason it's important that fans constructively criticize the show when it's needed but at the same time, shouldn't sound condescending. Hopefully with the right feedback, they will work on the areas that need focus. Sanaya is a doing wonderful job and I hope in the coming days, her role in Chhanchhan gets meatier. I fail to see why any fan would feel she isn't delivering. 😲 She's doing everything she can within the scope of the character.

I don't have much hope from awards. They work in bizarre ways and have odd measures when it comes to awarding actresses. Since awards are considered to be one kind of recognition too, I do hope she gets that someday.

I just gone through the original post where it clearly seems that some people are really frustrated and that's why cribbing here in CC forum and still missing Sanaya's previous show!!

Its so funny to read that they are also cribbing over ChanMan's romantic scenes, fire scene ..blah blah...Pathetic!😔

I think they have taken TV shows very seriously and have forgotten that all shows are fictional...All actors are only going their job...

For awards and recognition, all I can say its rigged...that's why actresses who are playing dramatic characters like Gopi, Sandhya..etc emerges as winners...

Sanaya has a huge fan following and makers very well aware of her talent..that's why she is doing back to back shows instead of hibernating herself like others...

glad u made it on your own post, showviewer.
some of the comments on rima's thread are ...

anw, i just want to say

Sanaya has chosen Chhanchhan, she knows what she has singed up for,
and knowing her, she is going to stick to it till the very last day...

Chhanchhan may not be an award winning character, and neither is the show.

concern on sanaya's talent being wasted is justified...
but there is always that thing called time and improvement...
