This thread is heading towards its end, so I thought I'd rush things along a bit by moving on to our next theme, if that's okay, Madhu? 😳
Shall we move from songs to dances? Well, not exactly dances but stage performances? Stage songs or songs that are performed to are such a staple in Hindi films and are the perfect setting for a light-hearted interlude during a particularly heavy context in the film. Or they could simply be the 'introduction' for a Hero or Heroine. Sometimes they help draw out the villain or are a means to address the 'haddi' in the 'kebab' 😆 and at other times they are set to be poised at the edge of a climactic moment, the finale, the denouement. Often times they are an expression of the main leads' desires, or a lament or even a warning. Whatever the case, stage/ performance songs set to a dance have always been popular and entertaining.
How about we post some of these stage songs now?
They don't have to be on stage necessarily, it could have a singer and a dancer and / or musicians or not, but they have to be 'performed' to in some way - either in the form of a dance or a song to an audience or an 'act'. It can be performed in a hall, a club, a stage, a garden: the only stipulation being there is an audience watching.
Easy peasy? 😳 I'm sure there will be lots of songs that qualify!
Let me start off with these:
Film: Howrah Bridge (1958)
Music: O.P. Nayyar
Lyrics: Qamar Jalalabadi
Singer: Asha Bhosle & Mohd Rafi
This movie has the more famous, Aaiye meherbaan and Mera naam Chinchinchoo that both qualify, so I thought I'd post this lesser known number.
