Padma, I have noted, parenting is more democratic these days, not so much in north India, where parenting is autocratic and they are very respectful still of elders but in Mumbai and South where education is more, ironically, children though well bred and enjoy great comforts, treat their parents as equals or friends, so respect vanishes though they may love their parents immensely. Do not know your specific case but once one gentleman told me in some conversation, my husband's friend, he said, we belong to the generation where we get scared of our parents and of our children too. I wondered at his statement but understand when I hear of such cases, this is an unfortunate changing trend caused by parents making children feel entitled. Have you seen the Hindi film, Wake Up Sid, it addresses these concerns.

You are right, but then movies and TV play an important role in our life, say elders, children and us(aged between 22 and 60). Elders I guess who watch TV more because of various reason, children I think influenced by looking at their elders behaviour and us who does not have time to verify and analize the situation going on.

This trend is alarming. One more thing Vibha what I noticed here is the more one gets qualified (I am not saying educated) the more arrogant and disrespectable they become. Because qualification gives superiority complex syndrom and with education one becomes humble and down to earth..

Padmaja, raising kids is really a difficult task for every parent, and managing the teenagers is just an impossible mission! Now kids are exposed to modern gadgets at a very early age and with that, they are building up their own domains. Entering into it will be an impossible task for any parent. Here, we can't even shout at the kid, every month the teacher will ask the kid in school, how her/ his parent is treating him? scolding? punishing, feeding well or not, etc. If the kid gives a doubtful answer, then the probe will start! They will teach how to call 911 [ police]to every kid from nursery itself, if there is any violence towards the kid, here parents have to be careful while dealing with kids! But normally, our Indian kids excel in schools and in other competitions because of our discipline, and competitive spirit. 😊

Madi reached her home safely, and all is well. Since long not seen our Branka, hope all is well with her.🤗❤️

Vibha very interesting and noteworthy quotes on parenting. By the term Parenting I would like to share something to you all. You all are aware that I went to Indore and jointed my Sister and family for some interesting outing over there. What I observed and felt alarming is the behavior of sisters kids who are in their adolescent age(8 - 14 years). My sister's elder daughter treat my sister like shit ( by shit I mean arrogant and non-respectable manner) and in this her father defends daughters and infront of them scolds my sister.

I got so tempted to reprimand him but then I kept quite and indirectly cautioned my sister's husband. Here one thing to be noted that both the girls & boy are very active in every aspect and good in studies, but somewhere they did not learn manners. It is not their fault, the men in the family always treat their wives as useless humans. Both my sister and her co-sister are well educated and working as teachers, but in their own house they are not given due respect.

You may ask about my children, they never behaved like my sister's children when they were of their age, but as soon as we all came back to Hyderabad in 2014, they also became same, but here my children grownup and somewhere responsible for their behavior.

One thing I get very angry that the men in a family expect respect from their wife and children, but in turn they forget to give and talk responsibly in front of children😡.
