Interesting debate.
If I may dive in to me TV is the test match whereas BW is the one day. There was time when there was a difference of being tv actor or BW hero. Today that difference is now getting lesser. From the viewers point of viewTV shows:I think that being a tv actor you become a part of ones family. The characters become iconic. People forget the actors but they never forget the characters. Classic examples are Tulsi, Parvati, Mihir Virani or ASR. Viewers get emotionally attached to those characters. It is relatively less expensive to get entertainment at home.Viewer has a remote in their hand 😛whereas BW -by the time people get attached to the movie there is a THE END😆Its way more expensive these days to watch movie in a theatre.Once you buy a ticket its not easy to hop out of the theatre to change the movie if you don 't like it.From actors point of view:TV;I think popularity of TV actors these days is more or less similar to that of BW stars. The reason why stars are now accepting TV.They have too many options out there to act and be part of shows. So new comers are easily accepted. They are paid per episode so despite they may not be earning a lot per tv but if you consider a show then they definitely earn a decent amount.
Its way too much hard work. Imagine 2.5 hours of tv per week which is almost equal to making a 2.5 hour movie. (I am just speaking about the time frame)Creatives can definitely experiment with their product.Creatives get their feedback right away.Bollywood:Stars are Bhagwaan. There are people who have their stars up high on pedestal. Apart from few very famous names most of the lot are struggling. Not many options as far as story goes. I mean what can they show in 2.5 hour movie? Its mostly repeat telecast of the few classics. Be it hindi or english. The time has changed yet the tantrum that creatives have to face due to the stars is beyond me. Professionalism is not there yet.Until the movie is prescreened which is mostly after the production then only they can get the feed back so until then actors have to depend on the director and good script.
Big investment depending on the cast.In a year there are about 1000 movies made. Only a part of it is a success. So success rate is very low. Only a fraction of people go to watch these moves. I think its less 10% of the total population. This is the reason they do not want to experiment with new comers. Nepotism is high since its easy to market the known names.
