Ayaan had seemed as if he no intention to rape her and the idea/theory/view that he tried to sexually intimidate her can be debated or challenged. Ayaan, without a doubt, crossed lines for physically assaulting her and he should be legally punished for that. His word/dialogues can be interpreted in two ways.

a) He was telling her that he knows and understands the kind of woman/person she is (insert Arjun's recitation of what his life was like in the past 3 years) and thus, he won't allow her to get away with anything she intends to do to him or to Arjun or to his family.

(His dialogues, expressions, body language, tone and mannerisms and the physical assault were something I strongly condemn personally. There's absolutely no room to give him a clean slate there, in my opinion)

b) He intended to sexually intimidate her.

Personally, I'm inclined to think there is a high chance it meant point (a) because he was aghast the accusation Maya threw at him and it did seem like sexual intimidation or rape was something he wouldn't even commit in his nightmares. If he had said or done anything of what happened to a man, it wouldn't have been doubted upon a case of merely a verbal and physical tussle between two men. But since it's a man and woman here, it depicts an entirely different picture and makes situation to understand incredibly harder because of the personal sense of judgement and sense of right and wrong. And if the viewer happens to be a woman herself, it makes trying to understand the whole situation even harder.

If under any chance, it meant point (b), Ayaan better be severely and legally punished for it.

What is Maut se bhi badkar sazaa for a woman? He spoke about tarnishing her image in the eyes of the society and began to manhandle her, wrung her by the neck, tore off the sleeves and eventually falling on top of her when she wasn't holding the keys in her hand. I am NOT saying he tried to sexually violate and rape her. That was NOT his intention which was why he looked aghast at the accusation but anybody would think that's what he was going for keeping in mind what he spoke and the way he dealt with the entire situation. He could have simply called the cops because Maya HAS to be punished and he's all the ammo needed to implicate her right on the spot. But he resorted to behaving barbarically to teach her a lesson. That's all I'm saying.

Don't you think if Ayaan had simply slapped her or hit her with some solid object, she'd have accused him of sexually assaulting her? NO. She would have booked him for trespassing and battery. BUT Ayan brought it upon himself by behaving the way he did.

The 'maut se badkar sazaa' and 'tarnishing the image' need not mean rape. It could even be something like exposing Maya's deeds and getting her jailed, which can also be a punishment worse than death and can tarnish the image Maya has created for herself in the society.

But other than that, I agree Ayaan brought this upon himself. His actions really come across quite ambiguous. As a viewer, who has followed the story and the characters, I can consider the possibility that Ayaan did not intend to rape. But if I was a random person who came into that scene, I would surely assume Ayaan was attempting to rape Maya. As a matter of fact, any woman in Maya's place might even assume so and accuse rape. But did Maya too misunderstand? I don't think so... only because of Maya's manipulative history.

Yup!! But I have never seen her fans defending Nisha or justifying her actions.😆

Trust me, I completely get what you mean, Javz.

1) He spoke about tarnishing her image - Yes.

Does it only imply rape/sexual assault here? Not necessarily. All those could also be interpreted in a way that meant

- He'll expose her in front of the world. Would she be nazrein or sarr uthane layak then? No.

- He'll make sure Arjun is out of her life. What's maut se bhi bad kar sazaa for Maya? (Maya, the person. Not Maya, the woman) A life without Arjun, that's worse than death for her.

- Him saying she 'bhabhi thi'. Could mean he meant that he regarded her as his bhabhi and doesn't anymore because of what she's done with/to Arjun.

2) He manhandles her - Yes.

Did he only man handle her? No. She engaged in the physical tussle as well. Pushing him back by hitting both hands on his chest. Then, she instigates him by saying he looks smart but he doesn't.

3) Did he tear her sleeves off? - Yes.

Can we ascertain that he did it with the intent of sexually assaulting her? Not sure. For instance, if person A and person B are engaging in a physical tussle. Person A tries to get hold of B to the best but B tries to escape, while A is trying to catch B or stop B from running away, A gets hold of a part of B's clothes/dress and it gets teared. Would you with complete certainty hold A accountable for having torn B clothes with the intent of nudity in mind?

We can hold both A and B accountable for instigating each other, engaging in a physical tussle/fight and not backing off at any instant during the incident.

4) Falling on top, alleged kiss on neck and keys in hand.

Watched the scene quite a few times, slowed down the speed and noticed a few things.

- Maya must have got the keys from the table and then came in between Ayaan and the room's door.

- She had the keys in her hands the entire time ever since then till the point Samay entered.

- She clinched her both fits, crossed her arms around her chest. Made Ayaan get the clue that she had the key in her hands. While he's looking at her clenched fits, it's looking as if he intended to look at her chest.

- Every time a part of Maya's clothes or sleeves got torn out it was when Maya tried to escape. If he wanted to tear her clothes apart, he could have done it while he had her pinned to the sofa/seat.

- She tries to escape, keys get fallen somewhere, he comes and tries to move her from the place where she's fallen (probably the keys fell there and she landed up sitting on it), then all of a sudden she's closing/clenching her left fist (probably found the key and picked them up again).

- Scene shifts to Arjun (we aren't shown how Ayaan landed on top of her, might have been further physical tussle), he's seen on the left side of her, close to her neck, scene again shifts to Arjun. Next thing we see is, he's seen lifting his face up from the side of her neck and notice the angle of his head. Had he been kissing/biting her neck, his head would have been further inclined towards her neck, not in a parallel position to her face/neck indicating that he probably was trying to lift the key up (might have fell there again or was still in Maya's left fist)

- Her left fist can't be seen nor the position of her left hand. But her right hand is in up top position, her left could have been in the same which is why he bent near her neck (where her left hand must have been) to get it out of her hand using his teeth. Notice how he's trying to grab her left hand/fist all this while, not going for any of her body parts.

- Then he gets up on his own, still looking around her left and right like he didn't find the key in her left hand (probably got lost out of reach again due to the tussle) And then just as he's getting up, we see Samay's hands pulling him back further.

^^ I only pointed all of that out with complete objectivity and keeping aside all of things I personally feel and agree that Ayaan should be punished for.

Edited.

@Everyone - If you're going to rewatch the episode, slow down the speed of the entire incident between Ayaan and Maya. Bring it down to 0.25 or 0.5 and then watch. On normal speed, it's too fast to catch anything or note the details. Free free to correct me anywhere I may be wrong or add anything you noticed to the pointers above. 😊

This is very, very ambiguous to me. The tone with which he said that, it looked like he's issuing empty threats of assault rather than implying anything about Arjun's absence from Maya's life. Maya herself looked seriously taken aback at that very instance and only started to panic from there onward

- Him saying she 'bhabhi thi'. Could mean he meant that he regarded her as his bhabhi and doesn't anymore because of what she's done with/to Arjun.

Agree, he doesn't care for any labels anymore. The way he said "aaj saari hadhein paar karunga", "I know how to tackle women of your kind" and stuff indicated that he's trying to intimidate to get the keys.

2) He manhandles her - Yes.

That was just one instance but Ayaan pushes and manhandles throughout the episode.

You're right which is why I said to a bystander and to Maya herself it would look like he's harassing when coupled with the kind of words he's specifically used towards her.

We can hold both A and B accountable for instigating each other, engaging in a physical tussle/fight and not backing off at any instant during the incident.

Okay, in the following post, I'm making an attempt to recount, interpret and explain the episode with a complete objective point of view. I'm dismissing (for a while, for this post) my own sense of judgement, sense of right and wrong and personal opinion/views/perspective on the entire Ayaan-Maya incident at the Mehrotra house.

- Maya has a heated confrontation with Jhanvi and she locks her up in her room.

- She goes to her room where she has a drugged Arjun tied by both his hands and legs.

- Door bell rings, she gets up and fetches the keys from her drawer.

- She comes out, locks the door and keeps the keys on the table near the room. Scene focuses on the keys being thrown on the table and then takes a moment to focus that it's still on the table.

- She goes to open the door (noticed a thing about Maya's dress, the design/pattern is such that it's open on the back side)

- It's on the door step and he recalls a memory of an unconscious Maya in the ambulance, questions where Arjun is.

- She tried to push Ayaan out of the door while asking him to leave. He declares he won't leave without his brother and gets inside the house. Scene shifts to show a drugged and tied up Arjun.

- Ayaan keeps calling out Arjun's name, Maya intervenes (holds his hands/shoulders for a moment to stop him from going further) lies saying he's not at home and he's disturbing her ill mother. He takes hold of both her hands and questions about Arjun again. She shrugs off freeing her hands.

- She says Arjun cares only about his family, Ayaan gets riled up, grabs hold of both her hands and says if Arjun cared he wouldn't have left him and his family back in the day. He lets go of her hands and enquires about the bruise on her forehead. She says it isn't a bruise, just a scratch.

- He says he knows that she faked it all so that she could bring Arjun home. She's taken back that he's understood her move and then she gives a push to him by his chest, taunts him about being sensible but says he isn't while her hand is still on his chest and then she pushes him back further by using both her hands.

- She taunts and instigates him further by saying how he and his entirely family were a burden on Arjun's shoulders. He retaliates saying they weren't but she is. Scene shifts to a tied up Arjun again where he's heard Ayaan's a voice and he whispers his name.

- Scene shifts back to them and Ayaan points his finger at her, threats about getting rid of the burden and rendering her in a position where she wouldn't be able to face anyone (Ek aisa bhojh jisse main aaj hata dunga aur tumhari aisi halat karunga ke aankh utha ke nahi dekh paugi) He pushes her aside and she falls on the sofa seat.

- Scene shifts to Arjun where he even in his semi conscious state is saying to himself that 'Ayaan, mere Bhai, use haath mat laga, teri zindagi barbaad kar degi'. (Suggests he knows to what extent Maya can go to and he knows the things she's capable of)

- Ayaan continues to search for Arjun, Maya intervenes, tries to stop him, points her finger at him and threatens him to leave or she'll call the cops. Ayaan gets angry, pulls her hair and says she can call anyone she likes to but he won't budge. He pushes her out of his way.

- Ayaan finds a door locked but its Jhanvi's room, fins Jhanvi aside, still calls out for Arjun, Maya pushes him out and he frees himself by pushing her back, goes out of the room, as Jhanvi is about to follow on them on her wheel chair, Maya threatens her to stay inside the room. She closes the door but not completely and doesn't lock it this time. Jhanvi is seen to be peeping through the gap of the two doors.

- Ayaan continues calling out for Arjun, Maya throws lamp off its table, throws showpieces while continuing to calling out Ayaan, scene shifts to tied up Arjun and he's saying 'Maya bahut khatarnak hai', Ayaan continues his search, Maya continues to stop him.

- She grabs hold of his hands and shoulders and lies yet again that Arjun isn't there. Ayaan then grabs her by her arms and questions where Arjun is. Maya frees herself and then says, 'nahi bataungi' (suggests she's admitting that she knows where he is and he's somewhere in the house), Ayaan is about to punch her face but stops himself, doesn't punch.

- Says 'tum jaisi aurton se mujhe jawaab ache se nikaal na aata hai, main apne Bhai ko iss jahanum se lekar hi jaunga'. Points finger at her and words 'lekar jaunga' even strongly. He pushes her aside and she falls on another sofa set. She's seems legit panicked out of her mind that Ayaan will find Arjun, calls out his name yet again, follows him.

- Ayaan reaches the corridor (are Jhanvi and Arjun's rooms are on the adjacent to each other?) Scene shifts to Arjun calling out to Ayaan. He finds another room locked and peeps in through the lock hole, finds Arjun inside, seems shocked (not sure if he could see Arjun tied up)

- He seems worried and he looks inside again. Tries to break the door, Maya arrives and sees him doing that. She comes and pushes him aside, plants herself in between Ayaan and the door, asks him to get out while Ayaan is still questioning her about the keys. She says she'll die but won't give the keys.

- He says 'maut toh bahut aasan hai tumhare liye main use bhi bura karunga tumhare saath'. Scene shifts to Arjun while he's saying 'nahi Ayaan, nahi', scene shifts back where he's pushed Maya out of his way (while he does so, on the table there can be seen a silver like object, its a little far and blurred but you can notice it)

- She reaches almost near the table, turns around, he's seen adjusting his glasses and has this threatening expression on his face. Maya seems petrified and keeps saying 'nahi Ayaan, nahi'.

- He looks at her, points a finger at her up and down and says, 'kya lagta hai tumhein, yeh harkat karke tum bach jaogi?' At this point Maya has her hands crossed against her chest (the keys are vanished from the table, they aren't there anymore)

- He says, 'mujhe isse koi farak nahi padta, chaabi tum jahan marzi rakh lo, main nikal kar rahunga'. While he's saying all of this, he's looking at her chest and then up her face with that filthy look on his face (suggests there's a possibility that he's looking at her hands/clenched fists apart from the obvious one), she had her hands crossed against her chest all this while and clenches her fits tighter.

- He says, 'samjhaya tha na tumhein ke main bhool jaunga ke tum mere Bhai ki biwi ho', she appears, scared, disgusted at his words and advances, he continues saying 'tumhari aisi halath karunga ke aankh utha kar nahi dekh paogi', scene shifts back and forth in between where Arjun's saying 'nahi ayaan', she moves out of his way and he gets hold of her sleeve which gets torn.

- He's moves forward to grab hold of her hands, she escapes, they reach the hall where she's saying 'pagal ho gaya ho kya Ayaan, kya kar rahe ho, please leave me' (showpieces, lamps, etc are shown getting broken, not sure if she this time broke them intentionally or they happen to come in her contact and ended up breaking)

- Physical tussle continues, more things are falling and breaking down as a result of it, they land up on a sofa where he has her pinned underneath him while he's saying, 'aaj saari hadien paar ho jayegi Maya' and she's pleading him to let go off her saying she's his brother's wife. All this while he's still holding her hands/fists (while wearing that sickening look on his face), scene shifts to Arjun where he seems confused at the voices he can hear. (notice how his own body is far away from Maya's, he's still standing, not sitting or bending over her in close contact with her body)

- She pleads that she's his sister-in-law and he says she was but isn't anymore. She breaks free of his grip, runs and falls down on the floor. He says, 'tum jaisi aurton ke liye meri aakhon mein koi izzat nahi', scene shifts to tied up and panic striken Arjun who is desperately trying to free himself while saying 'nahi Ayaan' constantly. He tries but the drug effect overpowers him.

- She breaks free of his grip, he tries to get hold of her again and the left hand sleeve gets torn, (keys probably get fallen somewhere because they can't be seen in either of her hands at this moment) he comes and tries to move her from the place where she's fallen and moves her around (as if shaking her so that the keys get slipped if they're somewhere in her dress or probably the keys fell there and she landed up sitting on it), then all of a sudden she's closing/clenching her left fist (probably found the key and picked them up again).

Had he been kissing/biting her neck, his head would have been further inclined towards her neck, not in a parallel position to her face/neck indicating that he probably was trying to lift the key up (might have fell there again or was still in Maya's left fist or somewhere in her dress)

- Samay slaps him and shames him for doing something that he's seen, Ayaan says him to let go off him as and that she's locked Arjun up in a room. He keeps trying to free himself from Samay's hold and this is when Maya makes the claim that he attempted to rape her.

- Ayaan is aghast and shocked and keeps telling that she's lying. For some reason Samay seems taken back too at her claim like he didn't believe her entirely but nonetheless goes to cover her up with his jacket.

- Police comes, he pleads not guilty, they escorts him away, Samay follows them.

- Fast forward to the scene where Maya's crying in Samay's jacket (camera pans zoom right into her face 3 times with a BG score they usually play when Maya's tricking someone or when they want to induce a thrill element)

- Scene shifts to Arjun where he's having flashbacks of family moments (also has the flashback where he's being bought into the house in a stretcher), he gets up, finds himself untied and the door open.

- He hears Jhanvi's buzzer when she's shown to be trying to get into the room and constantly pressing the buzzer to raise an alarm. He recollects the voices he hears and comes out searching for Maya. He finds her hanging from the ceiling (the rope is quite loosely tied around her neck, her feet were too close to the stool she was standing on)

- She starts guilt tripping him to a great degree blaming and holding him responsible for everything she's gone through, Jhanvi's shown to be looking not so convinced about everything Maya's saying.

^^ Feel free to add any detail I might have missed out on, add more details, correct the wrong ones if they're any.
