If you're born in the 90's you would have noticed how the level of our Indian shows have been fluctuating over time. Remember Mandira Bedi who portrayed a strong and independent women in Shanti in Doordarshan in 90's? Cut to 2016, you see Simar from Sasural Simar Ka turning into a housefly. Hey! Indian Television, what has happened to you? Where is the originality of Jaspal Bhatti's Flop Show? In 2016, we see a Gorilla falling in love with a woman on the small screen. We dont know whether entertainment or not, but such absurd plots succeeded in giving us the shock of our lives.

Sasural Simar Ka
Sasural Simar Ka broke all the records when they chose to turn Simar into a fly. Memes were floating all over the internet and people were making fun of this plot. Seriously, a human being turning into a makhkhi! Well, we know there have been films where the lead actors have turned into a fly, but wait then where's your input. If this wasn't enough, the makers gave us a stronger reason to put this daily show on to our list. They released a promo inspired by Game of Thrones: Hall of Faces and it made us go bonkers.
Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum
To add more trauma to your life, Indian Television writers and producers thought to be a little more innovative and by that we mean, making the handsome Karan Kundra turn into a mutant tiger on his show, Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum. Mindless plots and twists will surely make you go crazy. Karan is a rockstar and after three months, he was shown metamorphosing into a tiger and you can't just digest the whole scenario of the show. Just imagine, if you suddenly see a person turning to an animal with claws and jaws out, what will be your reaction like? You'll either run away or burst into laughter right away. Well, that's the case with Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum.
Adhuri Kahaani Hamari
Adhuri Kahaani Hamari failed to strike the chord with audience and even couldn't get to the minimum standard of TRP charts to sustain themselves, all credits to their weird plot. They were trying in incorporate supernatural elements but have failed to do so completely. There was a scene where you see Rashami Desai turning into a black witch with her hair open flowing in the air. What did I we just see?!
Naagin 2
List is endless when you start counting the oh-so-funny-and-absurd twist happening in the show, Naagin. Let's start with very concept of 'Ichchadhaari Naagin', it's hard to believe that such a plotline in 2016 is working and the shocking part is that it's ruling the TRP charts. Even if you explain yourself that yes that naagins might exist, but thanks to the VFX team of the show which completely ruins the fun of watching the Indian Television. Is this benchmark for the aspiring producers?
Kavach... Kaali Shaktiyon Se
The show is loosely based on the life of Savitri who goes to any extent to save her husband from devils and actual witch played by Sara Khan. But, the traumatising part of this show was the basic concept changing into weird VFX effects and twisting storylines into typical daily soap style. Mona Singh played the lead role, while Vivek Dahiya was seen as her husband on the show. The best part about this Jodi was not their chemistry on the show, but off-screen with their hilarious Dubsmash videos. 😲
Brahmarakshas - Jaag Utha Shaitaan
The supernatural fiction show is based on the fantasy thriller retro movie Jaani Dushman. The series started off with Parag Tyagi becoming a Brahmarakshas, but later on his onscreen wife Kishwer Merchantt turned into one. The absurd part of the show is poor horror getup which give the viewers a feel of horror movies from the 80s or let's say Ramsay Brothers era. It was kind of unusual to see stunning beauty Krystle D'Souza playing the lead role in the film.
Saath Nibhana Saathiya
From Gopi washing laptop to just being tortured by her cousin and aunt, the show has shown it all. Now, the lead actor of the show has become a grandmother, after a lot of leaps. But, Devoleena Bhatacharjee's age is reversing and doesn't look an age older than her children. 😆
Thapki Pyaar Ki
The show started with a good concept about a girl gaining confidence despite stammering. But, then enters a huge gorilla who falls in love with Thapki, which was taken references from King Kong and also Beauty and the Beast! Like seriously, to boost TRPs you needed a gorilla and a girl's love story?(Mercifully it didn't give a boost to TRPs phew!!!! that was a relief and tells us that viewers haven't really gone bonkers😆)
Kumkum Bhagya
Real life pregnant actors like Shweta Tiwari Kohli, Kareena Kapoor Khan and more announced their pregnancy and delivered their babies, but Tanushree aka Leena Jumani is yet to become a mom on the show. The shocking part is she never sported a baby bump. Lately, it was stated that the character incurred a miscarriage. Oops! And on top of it the subtle romance between Abhi and Pragya went haywire during the former's memory loss drama.
Well, these shows might have given you a trauma, but this doesn't mean that the Indian Television doesn't have good content to offer to. We have daily shows like Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi and Shakti " Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki who are putting out the social messages in an intelligent way. Our request is to those writers and producers who have lost their way, please take some inspiration from these shows (no pun intended). Also viewers, guess it's time we buck up the quality of our choices of shows.
