Colors Infinity to roll out first original production The Stage' MUMBAI:
Within two months of its launch, Viacom18's English general entertainment channel Colors Infinity has announced its first original production, The Stage'. Launching on 10 October, The Stage' is going to be first-ever home-grown English-language talent hunt show. The channel claims to endeavour to find the best English voice' from India through the show. Donning the judges hats are music composer and singer Vishal Dadlani; American singer of Indian origin Monica Dogra; music composer and a guitarist Ehsaan Noorani; and Universal Music Group MD and CEO South Asia Devraj Sanyal. Produced by SOL Productions, the show will be aired every Saturday to Sunday at 9 pm. Talking about the show, Viacom18 EVP and head of English Entertainment Ferzad Palia said, "Since the launch, disruption is at the heart of our philosophy. Everything that we do and we have been doing on the channel is different. So while there is a safe route of having a Bollywood angle, what we are doing is extremely different." He further added, "There are numerous gifted English music artists in this country. Unfortunately, they have never had the opportunity to showcase their talent, but now, with The Stage', we are providing them with the platform where they can finally do that." According to Palia, the channel has got huge response in terms of talent despite that there were no open additions. "We are very happy with the buzz and the kind of talent it has attracted. We have got contestants from North East, South India and Uttar Pradesh also, and not just from the metros. For us, The Stage' will not be just one seasonal TV property, but TV will just be one part of it," Palia added. Colors Infinity will leverage the strength of the Viacom18 network to create the brand of the winner, who will also get a contract to release his/her own album with Universal Music Group. "It is a large platform with television being just one of its parts where we not only identify talent but also focus on the journey beyond winning the show, thereby exporting the talent and taking them international. The winner gets a recording contract with Universal Music, which will be released globally followed by on-ground gigs and city tours," Palia explained. Renault is the presenting sponsor for the show, while dating app Truly Madly has joined as the powered-by sponsor. "Even before announcing the show, we had Renault come on board only because of the show's concept, as it is a genre that is largely been untapped," Palia added. Renault India marketing head Virat Khullar said, "As a company we at Renault stand for innovation and passion and The Stage' is a fresh new concept in Indian television that is bound to change the scope of entertainment in this country. This belief in the show is the foundation of our partnership with Colors Infinity. We are glad that we can be a part of this huge transformation of English entertainment in India." There will be no audience voting and the winner will be decided based solely on the judges' voting.
