What happens on Dushera? I have never celebrated that before.

Dushehera also known as Vijya-Dashmi is celebrated as the day when Lord Ram killed Ravan.

It's basically symbolic. Raavan's ten heads symbolize the ten vices in humans. Vijay means victory and Dasham means ten. To triumph over the ten vices - anger, greed, ego, attachment, lust, lazyness, etc is to celebrate Vijayadashmi.

Usually in India, huge effigies of Raavan are erected at large grounds, inside the effigy they keep a lot of fire crackers and then it's targeted with an arrow. When it hits, the crackers inside the effigy burst and Raavan burns along with it.

Muslims have two Eids. The first one, is Eid Al-Fitr: it comes after fasting the Holy month of Ramadan. The second one is Eid Al-Adha in which we sacrifice for Allah by slaughtering animals -like goats and cows- and distributing their meat amongest relatives and neighbours, the poor; it comes on the tenth day of the twelveth month of the lunar-based Islamic Calender.
