Against the backdrop of a brand-new liberalised world, Kapur sketches out Shagun's boredom, Raman's hurt and the confusion of their children, Roohi and Arjun, who are batted back and forth between parents and across chapters. The two new partners in the equation, bossman Ashok and divorcee Ishita, struggle to woo their stepkids while supporting their spouses through an endless legal battle. Ashok forges a bond with Arjun by packing him off to his old alma mater, a barely-disguised Doon School, while befuddled baby Roohi clings to Ishita.
Shifting between points of view, Kapur explains everything for the comfort of the reader, in awkward phrases which never sound quite natural. "Everybody over a certain age was a cornucopia of prying questions," runs one line. "He was a corporate man with a strong belief in hard work," she says elsewhere of Ashok, sounding like a press release. Elsewhere , Ashok sounds like a motivational speaker, even when talking to himself: "Never criticise your product: breathe it, believe in it, make it your religion." Even the main characters are delineated with such a heavy hand that Kapur might as well have tacked a label onto each: Selfish Shagun, Alpha Male Ashok, Insecure Ishita, Respectable and Rather Insipid Raman.
By the time you've ploughed through all the repetitive chapters in which Raman and Shagun argue angrily or swap one kid for another to the end, you're more than happy to relinquish Custody.
I don't watch the show but the few scenes I caught here and there he was too tough and harsh and the description of him in this book is totally opposite.😆 May be Ekta Kapoor spice up Raman to make the love story spicier.Serial is bit difference
Ishita is not a divorcee I think in serial
Neither they showed anything on sagun's boredom
Actually I never connected to Raman's harshness...it was way harsh...
Basic plot is same tough
Yes.. YHM is supposed to be 'inspired' from this book. The names are same also. the character traits are also there. Ruhi's custody is totally done. IshRa married only to get Ruhi's custody.
As of now.. in YHM, they introduced another brother for Ashok who wants to stop Ashok-shagun marriage. And this Ashok is eyeing Ishita's sister. 🤢 Shagun was a just time-pass for him. But, life is a full circle. Shagun is being treated the same way like she treated Raman.
