Emma Thompson won an Oscar for screenplay for that didn't she? I remember that scene where the quiet sister finally sort of explodes.
I've heard and read about that santosh sivan movie, haven't watched it, did the festival circuit and won awards didn't it?
Shakti, we have centuries old thought, ideas on it, and with the state of things now, can't believe its the same place, isn't it?

Well if you say bak bak is good, toh maan liya jahaanpanah😆 Aap alwayj saying don't be isstranger, don't be isstranger, so am trying to take it bhery isseriously.😆 Hum aawat bhen bhen time permits, parmesswari...😛

Achca back to bijnesswa... Emma T did win an oscar for best adapted screenplay i think...will go look up uncle google later...she is quite something, isn't she...and Ang Lee made that movie... that for me is the real slam dunk here...a taiwanese man makes a british classic come alive...and with same ease makes crouching tiger, brokeback m, ice storm and so many more, sab different from each other...fascinating maamla hai.

And you're right, Terrorist did do very well despite being a tiny film...it's loosely based on the Rajiv Gandhi assassination...got major distribution in the states...i saw it wahan par hee...and i'm sure you'll find a dvd if you want... It's a stunningly made film.

The state of things aajkal... the less said the better man. You know we now have "road rage" incidents involving brawls over parking spots in residential areas in and around delhi almost every week? People are killing each other in their fight for car parking... How horrendous are we.. And to think of bharathi and iqbal and munto and sarojini naidu... what they fought for...same land and people, hum aur woh? Kaise??!! I don't even have the gumption to pick up newspapers in the morn anymore...it used to be my favorite thing in the day at one point in my life. And tv news channels toh...forget about it!!

OK i'm probably boring you now...bak bak at 3 am...such ijj the nateeja, ladki kijhy!!

Were we separated at birth by any chance?!!!!!!!!!!!😕😆
That in blue above, I wanted to write that, that this Asian man made this quintessentially English film!
Newspapers used to be my thing too. Would start reading from the back!😆 At one time used to read sportstar cover to cover! And now, somebody would have to point out bat and ball!!! And tv news provides me with entertainment. Living in yankeedoodledom for the last four years, used to be fascinated by the open partisanship, but it looks like we're also going the same way. Oh well, kaliyug?!!! Makes you want to rant and rave and pulpit pound!
Oh don't think you'll ever bore me, any time isskiya!

nahiiin, you agely challenged ones... age baar baar.

i saw ang lee being discussiyaed upar... have not seen all his films, but yeah, crouching tiger... fantasy and strangeness rather moving, that zhang zhiyi plunging to death, beautiful. and chou yun fat has had something absorbing about him. michelle yeoh, i sort of like this woman don't ask me why, she reminds me of an era we have resolutely left behind in our search for the perfect always happy material world.

the ang lee film i fell for was lust, caution.

Hey you,

I used to read the papers starting from the back too...when the matches were on, that is. There was a headline on google news earlier today that india is down to no. 5 in the icc world test rankings...but it didn't evoke much feeling...just a trace and a half of disappointment!

As a kid, i don't remember cricket being flashy...it was all so clearly cut throat, and fab. Now, it's unstintingly mixed up with money and media games and testosterone. Having said that, my love for the game steers me towards finding streaks of brilliance from time to time...it's probably the nostalgia methinks that keeps me going...it's like my own personal history is embedded in the grounds of the oval and the wanderers and the caribbean...crazy, right?

Open partisanship - you so right are - fascinating on first looks certainly - and then it becomes the norm and is celebrated..it seems like we're ferreting around for new frontiers of khulle-aam seena zori and chest thumping in the media! My grandmother used to say "ghor kalyug" for everything even mildly astray and we all would laugh at the melodrama in built in the word...think we're now actually becoming our grandmothers 😆...the other day someone said "kalyug hai" and in my head i said, "haan, bilkul"😆

I really like michelle yeoh so i won't ask you why. And i loved lust, caution. It also stars one of my favorite actors - tony leung.

As for ang lee, an aunt of mine in her early 70's developed a crush on him when life of pi was coming out a couple of year ago. The film was heavily publicised here, of course, and he was interviewed left right and centre...pictures galore, large blow-ups of the quiet subtle low-key man in every tabloids worth it's namak and cheeni. In short, the man was now a household name. Anyway, we were talking about the film one day, and softly she slipped in her take..."isn't he handsome?", she said. I was slightly zapped for a moment...she's only ever said that for amitabh, like centuries ago 😆..."irrfan?", i asked...and before i could follow up with more bak bak, " no ang, the director", she said😆. I LOVED IT!!
