Ekta had said that the show is for the urban contemporary audience rather than the masses and deals with the everyday issues faced by today's couples. Hence, people are actually able to relate to these characters and their situations. I think overlooking the caricatures of both Tamils and Punjabis (which I admit to finding quite funny and entertaining, at least the Punjabis, Toshi and Simi are fun and Toshi has so many facets to her character, a favourite of mine), the show does take a more realistic approach to relationships.

NB mentioned this, the Ruhi/Ishita relationship is endearing and a main attraction of the show. For me, it is also about how Raman gets close to his daughter, seeing his conflict when it comes to her and how he is getting over that.

I have found that I do not hate any of the characters in the show, not even the negative ones.
