WOMEN FIND ME HOT!

Amrita Mulchandani

Very few actors get lucky.Actor Vishwajeet Pradhan is possibly one of them.Having played various prominent and strong characters in films and TV shows, the actor with more than 170 Hindi films, television shows and Telugu and Kanada films to his credit, loves powerpacked roles.
Best known these days as the devious and mean SSP Brahmanand Jakhar from the TV show Maryada... Lekin Kab Tak,Vishwajeet says hes enjoying all the attention.I am happy that I got to play a character that people love to hate. Not just in India, people from overseas have appreciated my performance.TV is indeed a powerful medium because the kind of appreciation I have got so far,is much more than what I have got in my films, he says and adds,I find it surprising when women say they find me hot. There are TV actors who reject character roles, but I am glad I am doing one, says the actor.
Playing characters with grey shades seems to be his forte. The actor who debuted in Feroz Khans Yaalgar, feels villains are making a comeback today in Bollywood in a big way.The industry has its phases, but the concept of good and evil doesnt change. So Ram,Sita and Raavan will exist in most storylines, albeit in a modified version.Lets face it,very few showmakers can try and tread an unchartered path, most like to follow set patterns.Any formula that works is adopted by the producers/exhibitors.Few want to take risks, says this much hated villain who goes on to add,The entire thing of specialization is over now.The character of a villain, item girl, sister which were played by specific character artists have been taken over by lead actors.
Vishwajeet feels the perception of the audience has changed today. There was a time when people stopped giving names of villains like Prem and Pran,to their children but things are different now.Today people are more aware about actors personal lives. They know that are just playacting.Women do get scared of me but also give me a kinky smile as they think I am just another brat in a classroom, he laughs.
This small screen baddie wouldnt mind playing a romantic role.As an actor,I love to play different characters.I dont believe in lead or character roles as they are just terms.I am happy being the protagonist, he avers.
Vishwajeet insists that he would have been an IPS officer if he hadnt become an actor. So is he realising his real life ambitions in reel life now He says laughing,I dont want to get typecast.I get lots of offers to play a cop but I do them only if the character is strong.
In real life,Vishwajeet is completely opposite to his on screen image. He is peace loving, warm and someone who lives a simple and healthy life.I am an introvert and like to take things easy.I love to travel and go on adventure trips, says the actor on a parting note.

PYAR MEIN TWIST

Zara hatke love stories are ruling the small screen.AT tells you why

Amrita Mulchandani

Everything seems to be on a changing mode these days.So are love stories on the small screen.Whats brewing is a mixed bag of new love tracks different from the regular run of the mill love stories that the telly viewers have watched so far.Whats more, these tracks are liked by the audience too.
Take a closer look at some hatke love angles that are currently on air in Mann Ki Awaaz... Pratigya,an old man marries a teenager,in Kuch Toh Log Kahenge,a senior doctor gets attracted to an intern but suppresses his feelings for her because of the huge age gap,in Bade Acche Lagte Hai,an educated girl marries a rich, overweight man in Parichay, the protagonist gets married to his younger brothers fiance,in Baba Aiso Var Dhoondo,a guy gets married to a vertically challenged girl,in Phulwa a female dacoit falls in love with a police inspector,in Sasural Simar Ka,the younger sister sits in the mandap while the actual bride goes to a dance competition on the day of her marriage,Maryada... Lekin Kab Tak talks about the romance between a gay couple. And the list goes on.
Templates used for love stories have been done to death and are repetitive. So the trend of showing love stories differently is here to stay, says director-producer Rajan Shahi of Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, adding,This also reflects the fact that the audiences are open to different love stories. The new stories are like a breath of fresh air audiences are mature enough to appreciate stories which go beyond a typical love story.
Agrees writer-producer,Raakesh Paswan of Baba Aiso Var Dhoondo who feels a change was required from the love stories which were becoming predictable.
These days show
makers are working hard to provide different content keeping in mind the cut throat competition.Novelty is the key factor here, avers Raakesh.
Is the audience ready for this change though The way of narrating a story has changed. The audience likes to see different stuff which is real, yet captures the imagination.Todays shows are about variety with a different touch this generates curiosity among viewers, says producer,Siddharth Tewary of Phulwa.
Isnt it taking a gamble With so much happening on television, extraordinary love stories stand out and break the clutter. The story not only makes interesting content and bu i l d s drama but also results in high recall, says producer,Rashmi Sharma of Sasural Simar Ka.
TV actor Kritika Kamra says,A predictable storyline or a repackaged story from an older format doesnt really click.Viewers have started accepting changes and the channels have also started experimenting. So its a win-win situation for both.
As long as the tube continues to pep up the content with innovative love tracks, the shows can hope to garner more eyeballs.
