But then I cannot take away from him the fact that he did bring up the standards of Indian cricket, for someone who has watched sorry matches like Ind Vs SL semi-final in 1996, India losing to Zimbabwe in 1999 and crashing out before reaching the semis stage, cricket involved in match fixing scandals in the initial stage of following cricket, who always saw a very sad, depressing and sorry picture for cricket in the future, Ganguly painted a hopeful picture. He had cleaned up the system on some level which was laden with so many politics and constraints, he led the team to the finals in 2003 world cup finals jubilantly and made us feel excited about the game again, while he only has broken the heart as well and killed that hope he had raised, I will still be thankful to him for giving us that first ray of hope and re-instilling the faith that all is not lost for Indian cricket as yet...whatever fantastic matches we witnessed, that were played under Ganguly, I can never forget them .

Ok I think I see your point now......yes there were quite some memorable moments in our cricketing history under Ganguly (The Lords win.....rofl).....so not taking that away from him.

I guess the only thing I'm trying to say is.....India has done well in the past under various other captains too....Azhar also had his few moments of glory I guess....yes Ganguly was a captain for quite a while so maybe that stands out in memory.....

The point about Dhoni is....I can't remember any other CAPTAIN inspiring me to feel so proud of the team.....like I'd be happy for the team before....maybe some individual performances would stand out.....like Yuvi-Kaif winning at Lords or some other previous iconic moments.....but with Dhoni.....it STARTS from his leadership and just FLOWS into the rest of the team making me truly feel proud of them as a TEAM.....THAT feeling I never got with Ganguly or other captains in the past that I grew up watching. Some were slightly better than others.....I liked Dravid more....maybe he wasn't the perfect captain either though.....but Dhoni seems to trump all these as a captain.

"Nothing can get bigger than this," That is how three members of the Indian team on Monday summed up the World Cup victory.

As Headlines Today's Nishant Arora caught up with Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli, they maintained: "It is a dream come true'a wonderful feeling."

"Winning the WC was the biggest moment in my life. Nothing can get bigger than this," said Harbhajan, adding, "We were confident of winning the WC even before the tournament as we had planned last year about this. We played both good and bad matches, but we came strongly out of tough situations. After league matches, we told ourselves that it's a matter of a couple of games and we have to give more than 100 percent."

"It is a dream come true," Yuvraj Singh, the winner of four MoMs in the WC, said, adding, "I was very emotional, because it was our biggest day. The fact that all of us wanted to win this for Sachin and India made everyone emotional. Tendulkar's dedication, motivation and the amount of adulation he commands - and he is such a humble man - all this made us work hard to achieve this for him. I prayed to God to give him this special moment."

Virat Kohli said winning the WC is an 'amazing feeling'. "I consider myself lucky to win the WC in my first attempt. It's wonderful feeling," he said, adding "All of us look up to Sachin and wanted to win the Cup for him, who has done so much for Indian cricket."

@Anu: LOL, whether that has or has not affected or demoralized the team, even if it had worked as the "reality check" , I will not condone that. Good that it was taken in the right spirit and did not demoralize the guys but that doesn't rule out the possibility that it could have. Like I said, I am okay with Dhoni giving them an earful in their dressing room behind closed doors but in front of the media, he should not have, you do not expose your team's flaws openly like that. About Sreesanth, well he is definitely not in the best of the books of everyone , including me but that does not give Dhoni a right to comment about his behavior in public, let's not forget that Dhoni is not Sreesanth's dad :).When the guy's becoming a nuisance for the team, Dhoni should've just dropped him and left him to deal with himself insteading of commenting on his antics and I refuse to believe that Dhoni could not have dodged the question about Sreesanth's behavior despite media's persistence if he had wanted to. I am not questioning Dhoni's skills as a captain or a leader, he is a brilliant captain but I am not blind to his flaws either - currently, the win covers the flaws and erroneous statements made in the past alright.

I gotta hit the bed now- the honeymoon's over and work calls come dawn tomorrow :((

But is it in Dhoni's hands to keep or drop Sreesanth from the squad? LOL.....I feel like he'd have dropped him ages go then....namoona kahin ka. HOW does one deal with a cartoon like that? I'd love to know.

I see what you mean though.....I'm not saying that Dhoni is the epitome of perfection either....he's human.....has his flaws like anyone else....so maybe those were moments where he let his irritation show when it wasn't prudent to.

But I don't think Dhoni has said something THAT big also that it will forever demoralize the team or that they are such HUGE flaws that have to be blindly overlooked....if he criticized Nehra then, then this is the very same man who put Nehra back on the squad for the Pakistan game.....against the popular opinion....he showed faith in him then.

I guess Dhoni needs to walk a more fine line between being his honest self and exercising more tact.

Ok G'nite yaar! Take care! You guys got a Monday off?? Wowww....that's so awesome...lucky you😆

Also, in the past, he has openly criticized Sreesanth in the media quite a bit. Now , I will not say, that he was not right but I just feel he should have kept it to the dressing room , it's like you are exposing your team-mates's flaws yourself and also, when some media people questioned about India's fielding earlier when we were fielding pathetically ,he said "I don't think we can improve the fielding very much because we have got quite a few slow fielders in the side." Again, even though it is true, it could have affected those slow fielders' morale.

About the first comment - personally I think it needed to be said, and in public. After all, the public are part and parcel of the whole experience - they cheer the risky shots that work and boo the ones that don't. I think, especially after the IPL (dont get me started!), this whole "playing up to the crowds", high-octance risky shots thing has burst into mainstream cricket. It can work in IPL, it can work in Twenty20 but it cannot work in 50-over games. And I am sure he would have said this to them in private before and after as well. But sometimes these things need to be said out in the open so that there is a fuller impact. And, like Anu said, it doesn't seem as if the boys resented that all too much. In fact, it wasn't even said with anger so much; just a subtle reminder, IMO.

The others - like I said, I admire anyone who admits to their mistakes. It is not a mistake to make a mistake, as long as they own their own failings, and Dhoni always does. I didn't agree with him taking Sreesanth instead of Ashwin in the final, and if we had lost I would have been the first to say he should have explained himself. But he would have, and that's really what matters.

As for the other - many people before have said a lot worse about our dheet Indian team 😆 I get what you mean, that you shouldn't expose our flaws, but for Dhoni to expose them publicly is better than for them to be exposed on a national and international level.

As was commented in the match on Saturday, "Only Sreesanth can handle Sreesanth!"

As much as I do agree with Kavya to some extent, I also don't see it as being that bad a flaw, esp. given our chequered history of cricket and captains. In fact, I think Greg Chappell was the most demoralizing force in recent years for our teams. Granted, he was a coach and not a colleague/peer/captain, but compared to him, Dhoni is nothing. I see the fine line between honesty and rudeness, but I don't think Dhoni is there yet. If he criticises openly, he also praises effusively. He is never false.

I haven't watched this bit so can't really say about his tone.....but if he only said it as a general reminder like you're saying, I can picture how he must have said it.....making a subtle point about something he must have spoken about to with them before also. And you make a good point about how this is now a part and parcel of the game....the same public that lifts them to such dizzying heights over a risky shot working is ready with brickbats also the moment things don't work out....the TEAM should be utmost in their minds....public baad mein.....lol

I don't know what to say...but still the mere mention of that March 17 epi pisses me off.

What a weird "spoiler"......somehow no Bones spoiler has excited me in a while now.....and waise bhi I disliked the BnB bits of the elevator epi....really put me off....so it's sad but at this point I just feel mehh about this....if they become a couple by the season finale also it will all feel so superficial in light of the elevator epi anyways.....the writers don't seem much interested in adding depth for them vis a vis the sniper storyline either.....all round quite disappointing I'd say :S

Re: LTL.....nahin I haven't watched the second epi.....haven't had the chance honestly in all this cricket mania with the WC win......might watch it today though....but I have some studying to get done for a test as well....so let's see how that goes.

So your shows are going well? Nice! Chalo you've found a distraction atleast...lol

Yes, it really is a weird spoiler. Even I'm feeling pretty mehh about it too...BnB lost their charm since the season started.

Yes, I have got a distraction...a nice one. The only problem is there are only three epis of this show on YT. Vidpk.com has all its epis...but I can't view those online there. I have to download it. *sigh* I'm thinking of uploading the rest of the epis on YT khud se.
