*squees*REALLY loudly.What-aa ? I'm a Colin Firth/Darcy/The Lake Darcy fangirl :PI love this series LadyM ! For me , it remains the definitive P&P adaptation ... the book's one of my all-time favourites , I read it when I was in the sixth grade I think , and well , I've been a Darcy fangirl since then :P *sigh* I know...they were true to the book , but they were slightly revisionist as well I guess...the lake scene ! :P :P Even in some other portions...they changed things , but never without betraying the spirit of the book I guess...the acting was superb in it , particularly Jennifer Ehle I thought...people remember Colin Firth from the series , even now , say BBC's P&P series and they'll be like : The one with Colin Firth ? In the lake ? 😆 But I thought she got Elizabeth's character perfectly...with the whole arch/teasing mannerisms and everything...Keira Knightley was nowhere close in the 2005 movie though she was pretty good as well...and don't even get me started on the 2005 Darcy :PIt's practically impossible to find sigs of this version...there are loads of icons, but I haven't found any sigs...and I've trawled LJ :P :P
Shreya starting a topic on P&P is like opening a can of worms for me 😆 I just cannot get enough of it. It is such a simple story of two individuals who hail from environments as different as chalk and cheese and yet bound together due to their pride and the prejudices they have against each other. And yet it left such a lasting impression on my mind. It was my favorite story amongst all the other Jane Austens ... Persuasion being the only other likeable JA book but it doesn't come even close to P&P.
Anyhoo - Ofcourse they did take some creative liberties where they gave us a glimpse of Darcy's feelings for Elizabeth - the fencing scene, the "lake" scene or the scene where he goes back at night to the same room that Elizabeth had visited earlier that evening recalling the incident where she saves his sister of an embarrassment and covertly and coyly throws him a glance etc ... whereas the book only talks about Elizabeth's POV. But even then I liked the mini-series for the same reasons that you mentioned - both Jennifer and Colin got the characters perfectly. In fact even insignificant characters like Mr. Collins or Mr. and Mrs. Bennet or Lady Catherine were quite good.
Re: the siggy - like I said, it was just a stroke of luck to have found it. 😃
