We never even had this many views during our busy days, when our CC was thriving with activities. I mean, everyone's so busy, and some barely come here, and STILL?!

THANK YOU STALKERS!

*EGO INFLATES*

*EGO ENGULFS STALKERS*

I reckon that all Incognitos use this screenshot in their siggie boxes.

Yes, I loved that you had a bit of a different opinion on this. So here a bit of a reflection on what you wrote.

What do you think of the recent ruling and advancements of the LGBT community and how do you think this impacts you and perhaps your own peers and neighbors?

Ummm I belong to a church that advocates GLBT rights in the US.. I have seen GLBT speakers in the church too If I remember right. Out of curiosity's sake, I was wondering if you go to an Episcopal church. I have been to one once and it was pretty awesome. More inclusive than a Catholic Church, but I liked how it was structured compared to the evangelical churces I have been to. I used to be in a comparative religions class in high school and this stuff has fascinated me since I was little. For example the similarites between Zoroastrianism and Judaism are simply astonishing. Now, I will stop blabbing. I do not think it ever mattered to me because in a weird way I know I am straight and Im glad of that but I do not worry about what others want to do with their lives. I do not call them perverts but onceI sawtwo wmen making out and Iw as disgusted. It si easy to say all are equal and I don't care but I couldn't tolerate what I saw. May be it was the Indian in me or the conservative upbringing. It is one thing to say I don't care and Im fine bleh bleh bleh and it si another thing to defend your opinion when you face it! I think I am generally fine with it but when I was talking about it to my mom all she said was "CHEEEE"! and one of my buddies wanted to puke at the ruling! I think I understand what you are saying. The thing is that you and I as straight people or heterosexual people are privileged in society as you do acknowledge because we are more accepted in terms of the relationships we have. But those of the same sex kissing makes you uncomfortable and is something you find taboo. Now, I perfectly understand where you are coming from. Would I be right some of the uncomfortableness comes because it is unfamiliar territory and the way people perceive such shows of affection as uncouth and is looked at by the opposite sex? Actually, I should not get into that tangent as that is kind of unrelated. But I will say that I thought Brokeback Mountain was a beautiful love story though I was in theater with some fratboy douchebags that made the most inappropriate commentary, and finally someone next to me (we were at the arts theater, thank goodness) told them if they couldn't handle it then to leave and finally they shut up. Though I do know people in my own family that think the same way, I guess, changes don't happen overnight so there is bound to be discomfort over it. You are right that it does not come from the news itself. Much of it has to due with one's personal environment and if such issues are pertinent to them.

Well I think it has made an awareness in the society but I am not sure if it ahs made an impact. Impact comes from within not from the news

Is recognition alone enough or do legal rights of partners need to be granted and how should this be done? Do you think legal recognitions alone enough or should the process be started in the legislature/parliament? i.e. Several countries have travel bans for people with AIDS.

Hmm unless and until u have legal rights, you have NOTHING ..atleast in India! Legal recognition is a start and things have to proceed slowly..rushing doesn't help the business anyway..well as for travel bans in countries..if it is a democracy and that si what they want then there si nothing u can do about it! Nobody should be forced to give equal treatment to tohers coz then ti remains superficial.. 'In time acceptance will come and then the bans will be lifted I agree with most of this. But I guess though no one outside of a country should force something. Activists do have to change things and be radical to force change. Reading about the push for rape crisis centers and domestic violence awareness in the 70s and 80s makes me so thankful that people were willing to be outcasts for doing the protests and writing the books in the UK and US. Though their daughters are quick to reap the benefits and say I am not a feminist but...But what you take the benefits they worked so hard for and then disavow them. Sorry, I am reading In Our Time: Memoirs of a Revolution by Susan Brownmiller, which is just fantastic in its encyclopedic depth.

Despite legal protections, do you think the attitudes and the systematic discrimination will ever go away? And have you seen attitudes of people you know change or remain consistent on the issue and how?

NO the systematic discrimination will not go in a day but ONE day it WILL go away! Empires are not built in a day!and acceptance of GLBT rights are a huge sense of belief!! The belief system must undergo a major change for thsia cceptance to occur..In time humanity will prevail!

And are marriage rights necessary? Some believe it is against their beliefs and way of life. So should it just be a system of civil unions that do allow for some financial benefits due to legal recognition or should it be marriage due to inherent advantages that brings in terms of taxes and the status symbol it is in society?

Marriage is just a name accorded to a civil union. If u go to a proper Christian wedding all that u are asked to do is give ur wow that u will be their for each other! It is recognition in the society that these people belong to each other and are a couple! And Marriages are a norm of the society! In my opinion same-sex marriages are NOT marriages coz that is not what the name is accorded for'.i would prefer a civil union to marriage for same sex couples!

Of course the case is different in the U.S. than many other places. I know in France for example and other European countries that everyone has to go to court for a civil ceremony and then you do the religious ceremony on your own. I absolutely agree that the government should not needle into religion and no pastor, rabbi, etc. should be foreced into anything. But I guess the legal rights of marriage are such that it is a bit of wishy washy move for me. People do get married for financial reasons though, and that is a sad fact i guess, but I can't ignore that.

All that having said' I think same sex marriages are harsh on kids' Imagine a kid with 2 mommies and no daddy or 2 daddies and no mommy

The kid will be brutally treated in the society!

You are right about how kids are treated because I have seen this happen when I used to work as unofficial student assistant in an elementary school. Seeing attitudes of how judgmental kids can be of anyone's who is different is harsh, and I do think that having a mother and father is good. But I guess the thing is that as long as there are two parents, who are loving I think needs can be provided for, then it is much better than a single parent situation or foster care(stories for another time). And I have seen partners take on the so-called gender roles in different ways and I do think it can work, just that is not the traditional breakdown. For example did you know that women do about 70% of housework in the United States in marriages according to Susan Faludi in Backlash. So in a sense I do welcome more couples coming out in the open and getting married because I would rather not have it be so stigmatized and that is how it will change the perceptions at a systematic level when it comes to assigning of gender roles to determine what is appropriate in terms of who is "allowed" to do what.

Thank you for your thoughts, Caro. Knowing you are a lawyer's daughter, I know you are prepared to rebut me.😆

I have too many things in mind about this'.m but this is my current state of mind
*Feel free to make this more personal to you if you want. And these questions are more to guide you can choose to do this how you want to.
LOL, I have a feeling the Canadians can answer, "Well, it doesn't apply to us, but still do try to answer."
