HELLO everyone. I see that no one is starting the discussion. I have alot to say but instead of making a long post, I'll post my points gradually as the debate proceeds. I will start with this: I think the biggest killer of Indian Television Industry is the concept of "soaps" that run for years. I like shows that have a definite start + different small stories+ a definite ending = a story. There are countless shows on Indian tv that start with a good concept and within episodes they fall flat. Why? Because creatives don't think about how they are going to take the story forward after the introduction of characters and introduction of the initial concept. I have yet to find a serial that was good after it crossed the 100 episodes. Quality is always compromised because of quantity of episodes. The problem is if "one" concept or a jodi works the producers can't let go of it. They keep squeezing the lemon even after it's completely dried off.

Another "killer" is the concept of tracks. I hate it when I read articles about how a new "track" is coming that will be interesting to the audience. Why can't they write a concise story and whatever scenarios make the story strong then make them part of the story. The problem is they experiment with those "tracks" when the show is on air instead of planning it out how they are going to unveal the entire story to the audience. Indian audience is general is "okay" with that concept. I hear people talk about "I am waiting when the current track will be over and I am sure creatives will make the next track more interesting." I just don't watch dramas like that and I find the track concept very annoying. The reason I find them annoying is because when I know, as an audience, that this a "new track" then it takes away the feel of a naturally flowing story. I have seen many Pakistani dramas and I prefer them in terms of 'story telling'.

I haven't said everything and my post is still long now😳. So I'll stop here and see what u all have to say.

Huma, you've pretty much summed up my thoughts on Indian Television. I agree with the entire quantity over quality concept, and you've said it perfectly, that producers like to squeeze the lemon even when it has dried off. I think producers are under the notion that a serial's success is depicted by how long it runs on air.

I also think that audiences are partially to blame. No one would make the stereotypical and highly cliched saas-bahu serials if the audiences didn't 'enjoy' it so much. Mostshows start off with a different concept, but fall prey to stereotypes and become more or less carbon copies of other shows. The indian audience doesn't really encourage new or fresh ideas. Choona Hai Asmaan and Waaris--- potentially different concepts. How long did they last? Not more than a few months.

I think this is what kept me hooked on to DMG for so long-- a show that kept its promise for more than a few months. It, too became entangled in the trps game.

huma i totally agree with what u said, i dont think a soap should run for more than a year! because every single soap in the history of indian telivision starts off GREAT, and as a few months go by, it starts getting stretched like hell!!! i would like it better if they had a start with a problem and twists and what not, and an end! whats the point of bringing new tracks when the previous one hasnt even ended??
take "kyunki saas" for example, that show was going on for as long as i have been alive (well atleast it seems like it )😆 and now that they had to end it, there was no possible way to sum everything up in a short amount of time cuz they had been creating new tracks allll the time!!! 😆

Liz great DOTW well i agree Television industry has changed a lot i was like 11 i saw kyunki and i knew show was gonna reach new heights.. when i hear Television word one name comes in my mind is Ekta kapoor no matter if u hate her or love her you can't ignore the fact she rules TV and she alwasy will be remembered for this!! I respect her work somehow although its tooo repeitive actor dies and comes back soo many times so many twists turns and so amny marriages hi-fi sets charm viewers speiclly house wives...but i can't ignore the fact that's how India is but she should try to portray in different manner i think shows like Bidai, Balika Vadhu have been very succesful becasue those issues are very important and you can totally relate to it becasue it happnes around us not balika vadhu which was banned very long time back but shows like bidai makes us feel how world goes around today.

Youth shows like Remix, DMG, MJHT have grabbed many youth's attention ages from 10-40 enjoy watching this shows and i think its really great to see how viewers appericiates all kind of genre shows. I have nothing to say about DMG all i can say is it has changed a lot but i don't understand if doctros and interns write in files and they stand next to pateint is doctor then they must be kidding just one surgery in week is just impossible although the show is about MBBS se hatek lovology mein atke but it should go in convincing manner the reason why poeple comapre old vs new is not just one actor replacing other actor but story has changed when DMG started you can see there were many cases and somehow it was mix of medical, love, humor, and betrayal..if you jsut keep showing one pair all the time which will bore audience no matter what

In my opinion MJHT is very well made i think all the characters are down to earth they don't have any unique qualities nothing..although poeple said this show is almost like DMG but it proved me wrong its about how they met became friends and thier journey ..creatives work on all the characters very well its pure humor which you don't even feel dumb for once pairs like Samrat-gunajn and mayank-nupur are famous not just casue of their chemistry but how they can be normal not just falling and eye locking but its mix of everything..and i'm just loving it..i don't see any negativity in the show..they are deinately on track!!
and its rocking

Just like Remix al i can say is sometimes televsion is in worng way but compare to 90s it has changed a lot that's why there are so amny bollywood stars who give their appearance on TV nowdays

and i think relauty shows have take a very big move to televiison industry its not alwasy shows ad dramas but mix of everything in one package but sometimes i feel they are jsut copying hollywood just like bollywood movies copy hollywood movies that's how reality shows are being copied...so i wil go for both it is going wrong direction but overall it satisfies viewers.

hopefully i made my point lol😆😆
