well it is more like matter of situation!
u r right, swayam should have defended but he was shock to react! rey has definitely pointed out swayam that he is the FAVOURITE ONE...
but we have seen so many situation which totally puts u into confused state!
swayam had hurted his lady love sharon coz he wanted to protect kriya's chances of being GS. he financially aided for goodies booth n election campaign. he even faced sharon many times to support kriya. (recent one happened in nicole maam house)
as a friend swayam gave more sacrifices... he cancelled his paso doble sequence with sharon. he faked out chits so kriyaansh can dance together.
but as it is matter of situation, u can expect anything coming out ur way. bharat n swayam were best friends n now we hardly see these two together. let us not misunderstand swayam as nil n vicky did.
