Part 6
Jai decided not to bother Mr Gupta again.
The next day was the history quiz. Titli was very nervous.

Jai: relax Titli...U'll win
Titli: Tumhare hote hue kabhi nahi...( She was sitting in the library wit a heap of books for last minute revision)
Jai sat beside her...
Titli: Finals buzzer round hai...
Jai: to mai gaya...iam not quick..
Titli:mere signal ke liye wait karna..ok
Jai: what signal?
Titli: Bye..all the best..

She walked away...
Jai(to himself): Ye titli bhi na...kuch bhi bolti hai..

Mr Gupta was receiving compliments. Both his students reached the finals...

Jai looked at the big red buzzer. His hands were sweaty...Titli was standing opposite to him...She smiled and raised her thumb to wish him luck..

The next hour was a war of buzzers..

''Only one question left...whoever will answer this will be the winner..'' the teacher said..

Titli gestured...she raised her forefinger, then the midddle...Jai was confused..

One two three...she winked..
Jai hit the buzzer
It was almost a minute when he realise Titli had not attempted the question at all..

''The winner is Jai Ahuja...'' the teacher screamed..
Jai was still luking at Titli. She was clapping hard..

Mr Gupta came running to Jai..he shook his hand vigorously
Mr Gupta: well done..

Lunch break

Jai: Titli, mujhe laga hum dono saath me buzzer dabane wale the...(He was angry)
Titli: Mujhe answer nahi pata tha...
Jai: acha..jhoot bhi bolne lagi..tumhare sympathy nahi chahiye mujhe..
Titli: mai sach kehrahi hu...

Jai turned his face away..
Titli: Meri baat suno Jai..
Jai: mujhe kuch nahi suna...( he started walking fast)
Titli: Kal mera b'day hai..5 baje..mai intezaar karungi.

Jai was still walking. He didnt stop until he bumped Akshay.

Akshay: arey kaha tha...kya hua?
Jai told him wat had happnd..

Akshay: maine kaha tha na...bachke rehna..
Jai: Shut up Akshay...tu phir se mat shuru hoja..
Akshay: Tu kal jayega na..uski party me..nahi to use bura lagega yaar...
Jai: Ha jaunga..(he knew Titli wud get upset if he didnt come)
Akshay: aur gift?
Jai: wo bhi soch liya hai...

The next day was Titli's b'day...
Jai was half an hour early. He thought of visiting Mr Gupta.
He was about to knock the door when he heard Voices.

''Mai AR group ke liye kaam nahi karta hu...kitni baar batau tumhe Gupta''

It was Mr Shah.
Jai(thinking) : Shah sir yaha?...
He pressed his ear against the door..

Mr Gupta: Mai jaanta hu Mr Shah ki aap jhoot bolrahe hai..
Mr Shah: Avinash Raiprakash khud ek imandar officer hai...unka AR grp bhi gareeb bacho ke liye kaam karta hai..

Jai was shocked. Did he really hear Avinash Raiprakash's name.
''Jai..yaha kyun khade ho..andar aao'', Titli called him..

Jai was still standing lyk a statue..

Titli: Jai, kya soch rahe ho?..Jai..

Jai: ha..wo mai...Titli...hamesha galat tym pe kyun aati ho..( he shouted)
Titli moved back. Tears glittering in her eyes.
Jai: Sorry...mai wo..
He didnt know why his behaviour had become similar to Mr Shah. Tilti was crying. She ran inside. Jai followed her...
