In the absence of analysis from Aunty, which I do hope will come soon, I just want to share my thought on what I liked and didn't like about yesterday's episode.
The entire scene of Chandra hearing the music and getting jolted by a touch...hmm...it is cute. But I would like to see more progress in this love story than this. It's like I want the whole cake not just the cute sprinkles on top. Unlike JA where from the start Jodha was established as unparalleled and superior to Jalal, here there is unlimited scope to explore on character development; for both C &N are on par as to the quality of their character is concerned. And what they have for each other is this magnetic attraction that pulls them together, despite neither understanding why it is so. Of course, from the start they established each other as the enemy of each other and thus they zeroed on the negatives only, But with time spent in this marriage, they have learned about the other side of each other, and their own in born goodness forces them to acknowledge the good in the other person and thus increasing the magnetic field around each other.
What makes their screen time together very endearing for me is the presence of this friendship ease that they have for each other. It is not all sexual attraction as what Roopa seems to have for Chandra. It is the need to be with each other for the sense of security, comfort and well-being that they both feel when with each other. Yes, there are this glances, and teasing, and eye-locks; but the bigger part is always this companionship. And anything crossing over to the mature sexual attraction is always done so innocently which makes it all the more precious, like the simple hug he gave her when she asked " and how did I hug you?'. It chaste, it's innocent and it's beautiful.
Just look at the way Nandini casually walks over to apply thilak when she sees him freezing in space. They always leave a smile on my face when they are good'.
Then comes the sabha. I am glad when Nandini says 'wait till you become the joke of the Sabha'. It sort of hinted that Chandra does do Kingly job and not just parade himself in the corridors of the living quarters or make himself present when muscles are needed.
So finally Mrs. Chnakya arrives at the palace. It was a relief that she didn't beat her breasts and blamed everything on Chanakya and demanded him to bring back the daughter even if the price to pay was Chandra's head. The one scene that I loved in yesterday's episode was when Chanakya told off Chandra that Nandini is not a thing for him to barter off, she is the MM and he himself has made the rule that she cannot leave the palace without permission. Whether or not Chnakya has any positive thought on Nandini, especially after his arm being twisted into granting her the ' degree'; he remains a true statesman and does not mix personal with professional. He is dead set on upholding the dignity of the MM's position and to that I bow my head. For his shisya Chandra fails miserable in politics for this error...mixing personal issues with professional.
That is exactly what he does when he throws Nandini out later. What is her fault if Nand kidnapped Chanakya's daughter? It is as if she is the drum whom anyone who has an issue with Nand will beat to feel good. Yes, she has a mad love for her father, but she has over and over proofed that she is not so blinded that she will not accept what is truth, right or just.
In the past episodes I was relieved of this side of Chandra, which I hope I do not have to bear long. If he is going to love Nandini, he cannot keep kicking her around like a ball whenever he feels he is lost control of the situation. Whether it is Malay or Nand...you choose whether you hate her or love her. If you hate her by all means, show her hell. But don't be such a donkey by being all so cotton candy one moment and then turning barb wire the next just because Nand did something. If he would have vented out and ended the venting with 'this is why I can never be completely good to you for the deeds of your father will forever loom as dark clouds over us' I would have stood up and applauded. But he chooses to chuck her out. It was not that she begged to be in the same room as him. He decides that she should be with him and he decides he cannot stand her face. Honestly...his extremes are EXTREME!
Really, it is not that Nandini is refusing to help. But it will be over Chanakya's dead body he should try to exchange Nandini. For Chanakya's issues with Nand run deeper than what Chandra or others can fathom. For a learned man who holds himself with such esteem to be insulted so by not only unfit but unqualified king is wound that is ever likely to heal. And his patriotism runs deep too. He is after all Chanakya! So it is unfair for Chandra to take out his frustration on Nandini, when the person who is stopping him from solving the issue is Chanakya himself. I simply hate the fact that Nandini becomes his easy mark - actually everyones easy mark. If Chandra is ever going to be a successful king, he has to grow up and be a man. Not a child who kicks up a fuss when things don't go his way.
Nandini is no help to me at all too. She doesn't speak up when she has to nor does she stand up for herself. I mean, what is wrong with her? She could have screamed ' How am I suppose to know what my father is up to?' but she does not. She instead choose to look so lost and hurt when the door is shut upon her. Neither does she go to the prison and rattle the teeth of the guy (forgot his name) for her father's whearabouts. She is a trained warrior for god sake and is suppose to be learned beyond her age, so where is the calculative and clever brain? Took a hike? Unlike Chandra who cannot seem to decide to love her or hate her, she knows she loves him. So her goal should always be pleasing him and easing his problems. She has the ultimate power in this situation, as there is no way Nand will do anything to hurt her. All she has to do is hold a knive to her throat and threaten the-man-in-prison and he will give her the information she needs. Why is she so stupid? When you are trained in combat, you are trained to have very calculative mind and never to panic or break in tense situation. And this chick does nothing but open up the tap on her eyes!! grrr...
If Chandra was frustrating, Nandini was foolish but Roopa was simply aggravating that my system could have had a shut down. Firstly the hairstyle was so stupid. It looked like she had a pot sitting on her head. I wonder if she expected some pigeons to come homing on her empty head full of hair. Secondly, Sunanda had made it clear that Nandini cannot be rid, for Roopa can never replace her. Roopa has nothing but the same face. Apart from that she is no match to Nandini. And yet Roopa goes on bellowing how Chandra should only be hers. If she had fallen in love with Chandra for any other reason, and given that she has been wronged as an infant, I would have forgiven her. But her perverse is solely due to his abs? It is such a gross idea. And what does her giggly self-talk about Chandra liking her singing, and she is going to dress up so well he will not be able to refuse her mean (which sane man will actually fall for the nest on the head is beyond me)? All this wanting to be in his arms, he should be hers, etc. makes my brain vomit in my head. It's so crass and vulgar. NO female should stoop so low! If this is what Sunanda's upbringing is all about, then there is a lot to say about Sunanda herself I suppose.
It seems my prediction Chhaya did not hear the conversation was wrong. But then I have never really been good at looking at the magic globe anyway. I don't understand why females in serials feel the need to have self-talked while the enemy is looking...'oh I have wronged Nandini'...seriously, the most appropriate place to chide herself was at the doorstep of the evil twin? It is amazing, that Chhaya who first wonders why Nandini speaks weird, then immediately concludes this is a different girl when Roopa reveals her name; never actually asks Roopa who the hell are you really? Nor does she ask Sunanda what the hell you are doing with this imposter. Everyone forgets Nandini was a princess from the start. Because if Chhaya remembered, she would have wondered out loud (as it seems that is how she thinks...out loud that is) how did the princess have duplicate, and if she was so swift in concluding this must be a twin, she must have also wondered why does this princess is only making an appearance now. There is something definitely wrong with Magadha palace water because everyone's brain seems to have slowed down at the same time.
This could explain why Nand has suddenly become clever...hhmmm...
Moving on - I loved the precap. Aunty, see this is what I meant when I said perhaps the reason why Moora is so eager to get them both together is she wants Chandra to have a support and she does not see in in Dhurdhara or Helena. In her own gentle and almost vulnerable way, Nandini is able to everting to human level for Chandra. To her - it is ok for him to breakdown, it is okay for him to have weakness and it is most definitely okay for him to want a support. Helena is power thirsty and she sees him as a conquest. Dhurdhara...the sooner she dies the better it is for my nerves. So Moora was right in getting this two closer for Chandra who has been brought up to be Nand Terminator, needs a fellow human to make him understand that a kingdom and king is not all about harsh rules and strong decisions...which of course is important to maintain a kingdom, but there is definitely a more human side to life and Chandra should be able to experience that too.
I am excited for today's episode. I know it is going to be beautiful, fingers crossed. But knowing that the poisoning of Chandra track is slowing floating in, I can only hope that today's epi will be resplendent enough for me to watch it on rewind while having to endure the upcoming MU track.
