Dear aunty, just now I replied to someone in the forum regarding an essential difference between the handling of JA and CN. I loved Rajat in Jodha Akbar, goes without saying. But I can't help but like him more in Chandra Nandini. Plus, this show has Shweta to double the fun 😳

However, there is one thing I have felt since the time Chandra became the king of Magadh. Wanted to share it with you so you can give me your take on the same...but only when your health permits aunty, please do take care...you are our dazzling written analysis ke hunar ki khaan ⭐️

So here goes. Somehow, to me, the JA mahal always looked better lit and bustling with characters and activities. Every time, without fail, there was someone to call out "baa-adab baa-mulahiza hoshiyaar...so and so tashreef la rahe hain". Surprisingly, nobody does that for Chandra and his queens...or mother...or Acharya! The CN palace looks stupendously luxurious, yet rather vacant and lifeless. I think it needs more daasis, guards, khwaja seras (don't know what they are called in Sanskrit), mantris, senapatis, etc. What do you think attributes to this core difference in treatment, given that both are under the same production? Am I missing something here?

I will give the rather simple answer that strikes me! This palace used to be buzzing and bustling with activity in the initial days when Padmanand was there as the king.

Ever since Chandra took over, he cuts down a number of unwanted and oppressive taxes, and there is drought in several parts of Magadh, the C&C combine have fought two or three wars consecutively at very close quarters which must have incurred in several losses and huge expenditures.

And on top of that, Chandra is indebted to return the loan he took from Durdhara's dad under the promise that he would return it very soon. So the poor chap is on a cost cutting spree. That is the reason for all these missing Daasis and soldiers.

Another more plausible explanation, the PH of Chandra Nandini decided to do some cost cutting. So all these extras went missing, and they are running the story exclusively round the leads.

The only way this can be managed is of course the one I and Aunty contemplated on during our CAS forum days, where we felt the numbers could be made by the rest of the cast and crew, including the directors, assistant directors, story writers, creatives, etc doubling up for these roles so as to spare these extras.

There in CAS it was purely deplorable by the time the show inched to the end. Mohit has 4 strong armies to fight against the Greeks. He was the one who was scaling the walls of fortress, fighting with enemy soldiers, and opening the doors, etc while those two or three odd chaps in his army just stood and time passed.

And then, when he has the misfortune to be speared from end to end, those four strong armies run off. Into this mess then walks Karuwaki who of course Harry Potters and apparates at the right time all the way from Kaling to Takshashila to catch an Ashok who is falling from a high parapet fortress wall.

At that time, both of us opined that the director must have made the numbers of Ashok's 4 strong running army, and the camera must have been running and recording everything on autopilot mode because the whole scene looked most "directionless".

Hahahahahahhaha good one Shailja di, even I see sense in the cost cutting theory 😆
And you are so right, yes now that I recall, the Magadh palace had a lot more hubbub going during the Padmanand phase. Also one must note, that man had 8 sons and those many daughter-in-laws!

I haven't seen CAS, but whatever you wrote had me in splits! I'll watch some of its episodes just for this 🤣

If I were to seriously talk about that show, during its twilight and sunset days, there were two exceptional scenes which have remained in my memory. The first is one small bit where Ashok has done something major and spectacular for Magadh. The gap between the father and son has widened very greatly. But all the same, Ashok expects that Bindusaar is going to hug him for his achievement. He does not say it aloud. Only his eyes speak that. But Bindusaar never notices that and blindly walks off. Ashok's eyes just film over in disappointment.

Many have liked the scene where Ashok goes into a hysterical rage and then a state of shock over Dharma's death. But my personal favorite would always be the last confrontation between Siamack and Ashok, where the actor playing Siamack clearly outshines even Mohit Raina in terms of performance. The only reason why I must have watched CAS after it went down the drain was Mohit Raina's performance.

Now, now, Sri, lets not be so hasty in predicting the demish of the man and the awakening of the devi-mata.

Lets stay positive for a bit...at least until Roopa is out.

For, if what you say is to happen I will claw someone's eyes out of sheer frustration that yet another story has to be butchered for female worship.

A New Promo showing Nandini being crowned as Chief Queen. Things are being speedened up illogically. Why to make her Queen now ? There is absolutely no reason.

She gave sound bytes saying she will become a key stakeholder in governance along with CGM. Really ?!!!!!!

With this crowning, it will surely become Nandini Chandra. And then she will come to Badi Sabha and overrule first Chandra and then Chanakya and Chandra will be looking mesmerized to her and will need her help to take even one small firing decision of a gatekeeper. This will complete CN as JA-2.

We have seen it all elsewhere. And this is so very boring. For me there is no love story if Chandra does not remain towering character.

She may be in love with Chandra but if she does bossing around to overrule his decisions, the show will lose the charm for me at least.
😡

I don't think Sunanda wants to be Rani or she could be even if she tried. Although it is entirely possible for the CVs to make her a queen, despite the fact that in 3rd BC no female could possibly legally be allowed to do that, since they are allowing every female in the Maurya clan to address Chandra by name and use 'disrespectful' terms to address him, In this matter, JA was far better. They did maintain the decorum in so far as terms used to address the king.

I think the vyad (am sure is a fake one of course) called her rani, as she was once Rani. If someone has been working for you for long, they tend to retain your old title.

To me it seems that Sunanda plan is simply to get rid of both Chandra and Nandini for the sake of revenge. Nand may or may not be part of the plan. But the Nandini who vowed revenge is no more and all of them are stuck under the rule of Helena thanks to Chandra.

My husband used to say, in Bihar (or at least where he came from) there is a common saying ' hit first, ask later'. Perhaps Sunanda wants to 'rid first, think later'😆
