I do not understand this endless cribbing about the sets and comparing them with those of Jodha Akbar. 😉
The fact . my dear Joyee and Sri, is that Jodha Akbar was shot in the same magnificent sets created by Nitin Desai at Karjat for the film. He never dismantled them, but retained them as a tourist attraction.Ekta then used them in toto. Which is why they looked so good, especially the vaulted ceilings.
Here, the sets are as gaudy and ghastly as those in CAS, This is standard for such historical and mythological shows.
Sri, the queens here are shown bathing with a wrap on - remember the early scene with Avantika and Nandini? In JA, Jodha of course did it in her full heavy costume! They got up in it, dripping all over the place, and then went behind a screen to dress. Secondly, how can one assert that there is only one unisex snankaksh here? There is nothing to indicate that.
And Anne, don't go anywhere near CAS, tempted by Shailaja's accounts of it. It was lousy all thru., It is true that Mohit Raina is a very good performer, almost if not quite as subtle and effective as Rajat, and he did his best during his 5 months as the adult Ashoka, but the gosh awful script did him in.
If you want to see him at his best, that would be in the Jalandhar track in DKD Mahadev, the only 6 weeks of that show that I analysed. He was magnificent. His Mahadev was a steady success for fully 3 years.
Shailaja, if you had seen all my posts on that CAS EDT for the two months that I was active there, you would have spotted my going into detail about that scene where Bindusara does not embrace Ashoka -that was after he exposes the corrupt prantpal and gets all that looted money back - as also some of the lovely Ashoka-Kaurwaki and other scenes where Mohit did exceptionally well. I tried my best to get the others there to comment on such good parts as well, besides constantly bashing the show, but to no avail.
OK, this is it for now, my fingers are protesting; I was meaning to stop earlier, but then I never do!
See you all again later.
Shyamala Akka/Aunty
Animal Lover - You have raised some pertinent point regarding the palace. JA Sets indeed had a character with or without inmates. Even the sensibilities were more aligned to Mughal era.
Remember Jalal's room - It was spacious, airy with all kinds of luxuries.
Here it looks very grand but the material is cheap, me thinks. And there are only a few rooms and a nice hallway and pool. Will tell you why !!
There was a small stool and some decoration element in Nandini's chota room when C comes and confronts her with the koshna patrika( the one Roopa gets done). After few days, I saw the same thing in Chandra's room when she moves in with him after Daadi drama. 😆 So they keep moving many articles into that one room where shooting will take place. 😉 Whereas in JA each room had a distinct feel. J Mata room had Kanha prominently. 😉
Another thing in CN is there is only one pool for Kings, Queens and sundry. King's Pool cannot be accessed by anyone. This will usually be the norm. Queen's bath we see in many forts - It is much smaller and COVERED. Here the pool sprawls to Open Skies almost like a huge balcony. 😲 Is this how Queens will get up from water and walk over to enclosures to dress ?!!! 😆
When Krishna hides Gopika's dresses and ask them to come out ( He says he will close his eyes), Gopiaks say what about sky, air and atmosphere. The deeper meaning is that in front of Panch Poot elements, one should not remain n***d or without dresses. But Mauryans have a different take - They want to expose their wet bodies in front of Akaaash !!! 😆
