That the spirit! But a beautiful statue would be preferable for purely aesthetic reasons!

I am a die-hard romantic in one corner of my heart. I see no reason why I should not be when I have such a loving and understanding husband who has always supported me in all my decisions and treasured me as if I was the most important treasure in this whole world.

I was never a romantic before marriage. I became one after marriage. Regarding the last scene, by and by as we inch towards episode 200 or 300, we could think of Chandra honey comb raiding for Nandini. By episode 175, I expect him to be saving her from bees and wasps. From episode 30 to 130, we can expect to see some solid hatred, and in this phase, I expect Chandra to let lose the hornets, wasps and what not on Nandini. After that, it may be some mixed feelings from 130 to 170. Aunty, though not beautiful in the conventional sense, all three queens are pretty and spunky enough. Kaam chalalungi!

My dear Ranjana,

What a delightfully unpredictable young lady you are! That is half the fun when beginning one of your posts, one never knows what you would be up to next!😉

Monkfish, forsooth! And if you think that after you have finally got thru these Labours of Kautilya (with apologies to the Divine Herakles!), I am going to be fobbed off with clinical, colourless replies, you have a thought coming! 😉

You are not an accredited member of my Chipmunk Gang as yet, and so are not entitled to the belan treatment, but perhaps a spanking with a stout slipper, guaranteed to make you feel absurdly young without any of the exhorbitant expenses for the L'Oreal miracle concoctions? 😆

Your last line is so accurate, so pleasingly apt, ki dil bagh bagh ho gaya! 👏 In fact, I am planning to borrow it for my next post, of course with due attribution. Superb!! And Helena will make sure of that as well!

Why don't you watch the show? Ah yes, your nonsensical pran! Come off it, my dear. As Rajat settles in you are really going to miss the visuals. I can hardly turn my posts into illustrated strips just to make that up for you!

Hi, I am Ranjana and I am an angler, but of the monkfish variety (right down to the looks) 😉😆😆

My dear auntyjiii, our interactions are increasingly reinforcing the truth in the ancient prophecy-turned-modern lament' that is carved in stone over the entrance of my house - Ranjana can do no right 😔😆😆

Well, you're going to enjoy a brief respite from my comments 😆(but not my likes) because I'm going to be squashed under one of my personal labours for the next few days. Once that is done, I shall rise again - battered but not broken - and I shall carelessly wipe away the blood and sweat from my brow. And then, I will wash my hands 🤓😆. And THEN, I will open your threads and type clinical, colourless replies that crush my soul😒😆. And after I post the comments, I will look at your profile picture and say - Aaj khush toh bohot hongi aap 🥺😆😆 Okay, okay, I'm done for now 😆

Regarding the marriage scene, I can't comment intelligently since I don't watch the show. But I did watch the precap while waiting for Naamkaram. The moment was certainly striking🤔. I agree, his gaze showed part detachment and part curiosity. As for her - I'm probably fully off - but based on your posts and her expression, I felt it was the look of an astute venture capitalist who anticipates considerable growth and long-term benefits in a seemingly make-or-break investment decision 🤔😆.

No, Pakhi, your balloons are self-inflating!😆 And in any case, Shailaja has worked out a whole timetable for the Grand Transition, so never fear!

Your imagination, my dear Shailaja, is as lavish as those of the ancient poets, and I loved your take on the open air snankaksh scenes.

As for all his beautiful queens, that is a big stretch, my dear, for only one is passable looking, the other is pinch faced and the third looks like a western catwalk model with a snub nose.

OK, let that pass. But I have a more serious reservation about this uber romantic scene. His attitude towards her being what it is right now, Chandragupta is far more likely to stir up the whole beehive and let Nandini get badly stung than save her from stray bees!😆

No one has more justification for being a die hard romantic than you, child! I remember your story from the CAS EDT very well; it was the first thing that made me take to you. But then your worse half is also very lucky, is he not? I am sure he knows it.

OK, I have noted down this somewhat elastic schedule - between 200 and 300 there is a lot of room and so much can happen! - and will engage to keep track of it!

And as for your concluding resolution, that is the spirit!

My dear Pakhi,

I am delighted to find someone with so marked a poetic bent of mind, and catholic tastes ranging from Suryakant Tripathi 'Nirala' to Keats.

Your selection from Nirala is very apt, though the translation is somewhat flexible, shall I say? My favourite Nirala quote is from Tum aur main,

Tum tunga Himalay shringa, main chanchala gati sura sarita,
Tum naad veda omkar saar, main yuvati noopur dhwani,
Tum Shiv ho, main hoon Shakti

You are the high Himalayan peak, I am a frisky, burbling brook,.
You are the essence of the sound of the Vedas, I am the tinkling of a maiden's anklet,
You are Shiva, I am Shakti

I have never seen a more beautiful description of the Shiva-Shakti equation as described by her, and thus too modest as far as she is concerned. It could also be seen as the equation between the aaradhya and the bhakta.

Keats for me is La Belle Dame Sans Merci, but this one is wonderfully apt, and it was clever of you to have thought of it. I loved both your selections.

Hi Aunt,
First of all I'm sorry for galloping away after hitting a like but I was unable to control myself when I read the fabulous interpretation.
Here are my two cents!
The mandala maxim
Yeah a big thank you for realistic contrast between two soaps.
Ektas chandra Gupta as a fierce unbeatable warrior and a charismatic leader you just nailed it.
At present though I'm a die hard romantic but still I'm happy that his love takes back seat.

In today's episode I loved guru shishya bonding. Even Helena wasn't able to guess the curveball thrown to her which she grabbed at earliest.
Aunt here we are getting two father daughter relationship
Selucus and Helena and nandini and nand.
In one a principled father is not pampering his daughters blind self centered ambition yet cares about her before noddingto the Alliance.he consents only when Helena nods . while nandini blinded by her father love and when pita Maharaj alaap is at its climax and the bubble bursts.. Want to read your analysis on that..
Reversed sequencing
Hahaha Helena installed at antahpur BT style and yeah in the soap Helena is always doing moonwalks..
With ketu then to meet chandra... She has a GPS to locate chandras cot.. All her decisions are taken while moon walking or sleepwalking.
Another would be wife of chandra is a moon walker in disguise...sword fights and somersaults.
God save the King!
Anyways did you notice Helena says that her enemies are nandini and ketu. While chandra says his enemy is Nanda
Cha draw is against nanda not only for personal reasons but he is a symbol of decadent rule bharatvarsha is facing and chandra is against it. So here he has realised his priorities are different.
To quote hindis famous poet Nirala
Pashu nahi veer tum..
Samar_shoor kroor nahi
Kalchakra mey ho Dabey,
Aaj tum raaj kunwar. Samar sartaaj!
Pad-raj bhi hai nahi
Poora yah vishwa bhaar
Jaago phir ek baar.
The whole world is under your feet provided you awake. Agreed you're trapped in the cycle of time but you are not deceitful you're the king of the war of life. Awake and conquer it. I
I loved the water drop scene... Reminded me of lines

But when the melancholy fit shall fall
Sudden from heaven like a weeping cloud,
That fosters the droop-headed flowers all,
And hides the green hill in an April shroud;
Rajat looked straightway out from the world of Keats... Much archaic more Greek and the legend you quoted just made me remember these lines. The archetypal shade of the shots is doing much justice to rajats silhouettes.
Yeah Yeah the story telling woman sounded like a diplomat whi h was unrealistic
Maybe sunanda is the one to carry nandini out from her La La land
As regards snankaksha I'm okay with as many till they show my hottie there... 😉
PS the Dancers in today's episode were hilarious but thanks they didn't play the music and spared me

Thank you so much, my dear Mishti! And I am so pleased that you have been able to watch the 1990 Chanakya and appreciate it at its true worth. It is a very demanding production, but it is well worth the effort in the end.

My comments are in blue.

Hello Aunty 😊

Very apt title and lovely post.

I happened to watch 1990s Chanakya recently, which was being rerun on DD, because I'd heard raving reviews about it and rightly so. It was a masterpiece, inspite of lack of glitz and glamour.

The village woman and her garam roti scene could have been limited to talks of roti only and the symbolism would have been understood by the guru-shishya duo...her detailing of military strategy was off character.

I'm liking Helena's character and also the actor playing her, she comes out smart, strong and assertive; AND she will be the FIRST wife of Chandra? Oookayyy😲
Or will Durdhara sneak in to be 1st in line?😉

No, there is now no time for Durdhara to sneak in !😆 I don't know why he marries her, probably because Chanakya wanted a Bharatiya heir to the Mauryan empire.

But I feel Chandra is awed by Helena for her personality.😛

Awe... I would rather say that he admires her a lot for her clear-headedness and her guts. But the way he looks at her during the proposal session and later at the wedding is very complex: curious and intrigued, assessing how far she will go to get her revenge, and much else.

Although Nandini's eyes are very expressive, she's not using them to emote her varied state of emotions.

The relationship between Chandra and Chanakya is definitely NOT of a master and a puppet as you rightly pointed out, they are guru and shishya...while the shishya respects his guru, in turn Chanakya also has respect for Chandra, for he knows he's worthy of it and therefore will be the future Samrat. This relationship is very beautifully portrayed by the two actors in their body language and communication.

Yes, and this is one of the special pleasures of watching this show.

Lastly Sunanda's trump card better be heavy weight, for leashing Nanda is no mean feat.

I begin to have serious doubts about this Raaz No.1. It is not something he is afraid that she will reveal, you see, it is something she knows that he wants to get out of her. Which is far more complicated than simple blackmail. It has to be knowledge about someone or something - the identity of Mura's son, or the location of hidden treasure . I hope it does not turn out to be a damp squib in the end, which cannot now be very far off!

My dear Lashykanna,

Sorry for being late? I am only surprised, and touched, that you found the time to do this double review, given everything you have to cope with, with little Rithi topping the list! You must be really good at time management, my pet, whereas I am abysmal!

My comments are in blue.

A wise decision, my dear Shailaja!

As for the breakneck speed of the script of late, as I wrote above to Lashy, I think they want to get the TRP boosters in place very quickly.

The TRPs, though they are higher than those for Jodha Akbar till week 7, when the shaahi shaadi saptah began, are yet not the kind that Ekta would want for her prestige product.

Now the TRPs will rise once the conflicts between Chandra and Nandini, and Helena and Nandini begin, which is where the CVs are clearly headed.Whence also the need for Helena to marry him first.

Aunty, the story is actually whistling past at rocket speed in order to launch the love story waiting in the wings. I am not sorry to have been wrong in the order of Pathnis as I am by the fact that none of Chandra's marriages are happening because he wants them or out of his own choice.

Helena-political reasons; Durdhara- I suppose either to save her from another undesirable marriage with a loafer, drunkard and wife-beating husband arranged by her father(or) Chanakya asks him to for the sake of an Indian heir(or) Durdhara is in love with him and he is ready for compromise to keep her happy; Nandini- political marriage.

I always knew Helena was self-centered. But I never thought she will ask Chandra to attack her own father. Unsuspected depths! Helena, my dear, is exactly like Medea, and Chanakya as well. Once you accept that, the rest seems perfectly logical.

I will care only about the story from now on and not stand as a Daniel to Judgement decrying the ahistoricity of the script for bringing the Greek war before and pushing the War with the Nandas later on. I kiss you a goodbye History!

The roti bit finally came up. But the way the woman was taking Chanakya's war strategy apart piece by piece, it looked as though she was the war strategy professor from Taxilla giving a lecture to her grandson/son and two outstanding students(Chandra and Chanakya). In the original story she doesn't do all this analysis. She just mentions Chanakya's name.

Chandra/Helena marriage 😲 coming up & so is a short lived (non)engagement 🤢...

What was noteworthy, is that...ahem ahem...Helena will have to wait for her cough medicine for a while, it looks...😆😉

*Run*...*faster than Usain Bolt*.....😆😆
