My dear Shreya,

I am feeling very cross just now, since I got stuck with my option B (did you read the revised version, also on page 1, of part of the original post?), which I did not like at all. Anyway, I suppose I should be gratified at having got at least that right, for usually my scores in the matter of predicting what is going to happen are dismal.

Still, I enjoyed reading your comments, as I always do. Shwetha is not beautiful, but she is very striking when she has zero chakmak, as in the white dress and sans turban. Any fashion designer would jump at her, even if she is never going to be beautiful. And another thing, she is a girl, not a woman, and that is the way she plays it, even the silly girlish parts. Jodha, though quite lovely in the Rajasthani chakmak (but looking strangely commonplace in Mughal dress), never looked girlish.I have never watched this Shweta in a film or on TV earlier, and I am curious to see how she pulls off more difficult territory than being the ladli of her pitaji maharaj.

Your observations about Rajat, including the idea of his playing Chanakya - he would beat all the current players by lengths - are spot on. His Chandragupta is eternally focussed on his assigned task, and they showed that even more pointedly tonight. And the tricks taught by Chanakya which he uses to such good effect to escape were delightful.

His Chandragupta is like lambent fire sheathed in ice. I loved him today in the court scene with Padmanand. He triumphed effortlessly, and the look on his face when the real Raja Parvatak turns up, thru sheer bad luck for Chandragupta, was unbelievably cool. He actually smiled broadly, saying Nissandeh!, even though he knew what was going to happen to him, and I was almost clapping at the bravura insouciance of it all.

I find that Nandini still irritates me. Like today when she was sitting in the court, bobbing her head up and down like a silly cheerleader for her Dhan Bhaiyya, and grinning intermittently. I loved the shellshocked look on her face when Chandragupta floors her Dhan Bhaiyya and could have easily killed him.

Now I hope he takes her along a hostage part of the way, slung across his saddle like a sack of potatoes, and once he is far enough away to feel safe, dumps her unceremoniously by the roadside, preferably in a nice puddle of mud. A free mudpack!. 😉

Hello Aunty,

I was so thrilled when you lashed out at that priya dharma patni verse. Every time that I have heard it, I have hated it. EK uses this very sexist verse liberally, in many of her shows 😡.

I feel Shweta is trying hard to look beautiful (Paridhi was effortlessly beautiful). I loved her as the 8-year old Shruthi in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki. And she was excellent in Vishal Bharadwaj's Makdee. I can't pin point what is lacking in her current role, but the spontaneity that she had as Shruthi is somewhat missing. And I found her very clumsy in the scene where she jumps into the well. And looks like Ekta has a diktat of well-toned frames only for the male actors 😉.

I am enjoying Rajat's role. Chandra speaks very less, and his face hardly betrays any emotion. A perfect shishya of Chanakya - calculative and always alert. A very keen observer. Even when Nandni is thrust into his arms by a few delicate strands of her hair 😉, he is not affected by her proximity. Instead, when she turns and tries to run away, he re-iterates his initial query - who are you? He never loses sight of his seeking. I liked Rajat's expressions when Nandni fibs about a coconut falling on her fianc. It was very evident that he didn't buy her story but looks on with further suspicion. Nandni comes across as a contrast to Chandra - impulsive, boisterous and care-free. And why wouldn't she be so. After all, if she is the youngest of the lot, and the only sister to her brothers.Plus she is a princess. I feel she would tone down after her vivaah but would retain her spunk.

Maybe few years down the line, Rajat can play Chanakya. I can already see that he would do an excellent job of it. Who would believe that this is the same guy who played Jalal or even the nevla?

Take care Aunty. And once again, thanks for the wonderful analysis. It's always a pleasure to read your posts.

No, my pet. Not when they hang around in groups, giggling at passing boys and making inane comments, and fangirling about some hunk or the other.

I was never like that, for I was always individualistic and would not have known what to do in such company. When I was growing up, I was a tomboy.

Hello Shyamala Aunty,
I read your reply in the other thread. Yes it was changed from foodlover to Blueorchids and finally K.ahm which is my initial and part of my last name.
Been so long since PR days and then I did comment on JA updates too but lost interest in Ekta's version of JA so stopped watching.

For some reason even though I am loving the acting of the actors the story is not very appealing could be because the other version of it was made so well.

I was enjoying the sword fight and the scene before it but then came the melodramatic sindoor drama. Because not much is written about Chandra Nandini historically Ekta is going to make full use of creative liberty. Rajat was really good in that scene, his eyes are very expressive and his sword fight scenes look very crisp and effortless- pros of doing so many historical.
Shweta looked really beautiful in those simple attire I completely agree. Her big kohl eyes and hair tied back for that dasi attire made her look so endearing compared to the christmas tree look she had for swayamwar.

Then came the scene when the 15 prince were told to enter the palace and the priest was saying how crossing the water isn't possible and we were shown flashback of the young Chandra, Rajat's expression were so on point. I missed the part a bit, so not sure if I am correct but I felt Chandra had that winning look as he could clearly cross the water and so if that was one of the security measures to enter the palace he clearly has the key to it.

Then came another over-dramatic scene with the priest and his monologue about Nandini's kundli.

Now clearly Nandini is married if we go by the sindoor logic, so I am looking forward to how they actually take the marriage forward because Malayaketu I am sure will be on his way. And Ekta will not show his death so early, she loves Chetan too much to loose him so early.

Also I am not very sure because the way Chandra was so carefree roaming in the mahal and talking to a dasi in such a manner even I have a doubt if he knows it was Nandini or that was genuine error on his part. Because those scenes looked like he wanted Nandini to follow him? Maybe they will know he isn't Malayketu and he will be jailed for it and the sindoor scene will come in play where the priest might say she is married or something like that. Marriage of hatred. But then isn't the reason behind their marriage the death of Padmanand?

Kavya ,

What is it with these triple decker responses of yours, my dear?Would it not be easier to send just the last one? And the wording is always exactly the same!

Anyways, since you have for once asked a question, let me give you a reply. As in my Option B in my post, yes, he gets caught, but he escapes from the prison.

He then takes Nandini hostage. He will now use her to get out of the palace safely.

No, Kesha, it is nothing like as melodramatic as what you have imagined. There is no sindoor angle at all, or any claim that they are married. In any case, the sindoor is not the core rite in a Hindu marriage. It is the saat phere.

Not Malayaketu - whom Chanakya has immoblised in Takshashila, but his father turns up in Pataliputra to apologise in person for his son's inability to be present. So naturally Chandragupta is trapped and jailed, but not before he has defeated Dhananand fair and square and rejected Nandini's hand to boot. His confrontation scene with Padmanand was splendid.

He then meets Mura, and escapes from the prison using tricks taught to him by Chanakya. In the precap, he had taken Nandini hostage.

As for the moat crossing exercise, yes of course Chandragupta is going to do just that using the santaram vidya when the time for it comes. I had written that in the post, did you not read that bit?

Well, my dear Ankita, that is a good effort from Chandragupta's counsel for the defence, but it does not quite wash as far as I am concerned. It was such pointless and dangerous babbling that I was very disappointed.

The only saving grace was that once that Raja Paravtak turned up, Chandragupta would have been trapped even if he had not committed that piece of folly. And then he defeated Dhananand fair and square, and rounded that off by rejecting Nandini's hand to boot. His confrontation scene with Padmanand was splendid. He actually smiled broadly, saying Nissandeh!, even though he knew what was going to happen to him, and I was almost clapping at the bravura insouciance of it all.

As I wrote above to Shreya, I find that Nandini still irritates me. Like today when she was sitting in the court, bobbing her head up and down like a silly cheerleader for her Dhan Bhaiyya, and grinning intermittently. Aunty, yesterday i was thinking that he felt that the daasi was strange but it wasnt unusual for a noble's companion to know how to protect them. So maybe he passed off his suspicions as the daasi being a fighter as he easily defeated her.
After watching tonight's epi, I have to ask why oh why then did he say he wanted to steal Magadh to her if he thought she was just a servant.

The only reason I can think of is that since she told him that the princess refused marriage, he was seeking an alternative answer to continue staying in the palace without having the daasi get in his way. Since he did think of her as a daasi, he must have thought she would not pay close attention to his tone or his words and pass it off as a prince's arrogance. All that time he was quite invested in looking around that place.

Still it was a great episode today. Shall discuss it in your next post. 😳
