Chapter 10:
Ashok closed his eyes, climbing up the tree quickly, yet carefully.
"Wait!" He heard a voice shout from below.
He looked down, and saw a boy, his age, holding a piece of metal. His jewels.
Ashok looked around him, and saw a few hounds, perhaps that would explain the growls.
He slowly climbed down, jumping onto the ground.
"Hi," The boy greeted.
"Hi," Ashok smiled.
"Wait a minute; you're a prince!" The boy cried.
Ashok let out a small laugh.
"Ashok," Ashok took out his hand.
"Lucifer," The boy shook it.
"Lucifer, do you know how to get to Patliputra?" Ashok asked.
Lucifer nodded fiercely.
"But... it's a very dangerous trip, and a long one at that!".
"Don't worry, just tell where to go please," Ashok said.
"Err... okay... If you go straight from here, then you would come across a small waterfall. It's incredibly beautiful, making it easy to recognise. Then you need to cross it. But that's way too difficult, it is thought that some demon inhabits the place. Once you've crossed that, then you'll come across a strange looking tree, you need to go right after that, then straight." Lucifer explained.
Ashok nodded.
"Thanks Lucifer!" He said, before rushing off straight.
Lucifer grinned, his eyes began turning a deep shade of red.
"Another meal to celebrate," He whispered...
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Ahankara stepped inside the forest. Tricking the soldiers into letting her go was clearly not easy. Maybe she could catch upto Ashok just in time.
But that's highly unlikely.
She covered her face, so she couldn't be identified.
After lots of walking, Ahankara realised that she had gone in further than she wanted to.
She looked around, thinking of a way to get back, but all she saw was trees everywhere. She listened carefully, when she heard a bubbly sound. She followed the sound, leading her into a horrible - stench swamp.
"Yuck," She whispered. When she saw Ashok's face at the top of the swamp.
She rubbed her eyes, and it was still there. A huge grin exploded on her face, and she began calling his name.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Ashok had followed the directions of Lucifer, but it had led him to a disgusting swamp.
"Ashok!".
He heard a familiar voice call out his name, and he saw Ahankara standing at the bottom.
He couldn't help but tears of joy slid down his cheek. He saw rocks piled on each other; making it a ladder to climb down.
He reached the ground and Ahankara ran upto him, giving him a loving embrace.
"Ashok," Ahankara whispered.
Ashok held onto her tightly, removing a strand of hair from her face.
"Ahankara, what are you doing here?" Ashok asked.
Ahankara looked towards the ground, if she told him the truth, then he would yell at her for not being careful.
She sighed, and decided to tell him the truth.
"I felt some kind of feeling, and thought you were in trouble, so I sneaked out, without informing anyone,".
"What! Ahankara, what if you got hurt, there are beasts in this forest, what if-".
Ahankara leaned in, and kissed him. Ashok, who was a little shocked, responded.
"Better?" Ahankara asked, letting go.
Ashok just laughed.
"Ahankara, you really do know how to get rid of my anger!".
Ahankara joined, little did he know that someone had followed them. Watching their every move, waiting for the moment to strike...
