I think it means two people will read a book at a same time and discuss the book with each other. But as far as read along is concerned, I don't know what that is. I don't think the type of books I read other people will be interested in them. Many of them are children's fiction. And here my other participants don't really read children's fiction that much. Horror is my favourite genre. I enjoy reading horror books. But horror is a genre which is disliked by many people. I read Japanese books too and most of the other participants don't read them. Yes, I like to read thriller and fantasy too. But I read low-fantasy books mostly. And as far as thrillers are concerned, there're some sub-genres. Other participants may not feel interested in the sub-genres I read.

I'm a little more partial to middle grade fiction these days, but I'd love to buddy read a children's book if you're ever down for that! I'm a bit of a mood reader, so need to be in the right mindset for a horror or a thriller.

I like to read children's books a lot! My first book of this month is Magic of the Lost Temple. It's a popular children's book written by Sudha Murthy. I completed listening to the book (the audiobook version) today. I'm currently reading Nightmare Academy which is also a children's book. There're also some other children's books in my list.

Yes you can re-read books.

For classics please agree on a version you’re reading cos there are some condensed works, abridged works, children’ and young readers’ version etc. So do make sure you’re reading the same publication!

I want to read the original, unabridged versions only. Okay, so I have paperback versions of A House for Mr. Biswas and No Longer at Ease because I read them for Masters in the past. The first one's publication is Picador and the second one's publication is Modern Classics. I also have the paperback version of Robinson Crusoe and it is Norton Critical Edition. But I want to read its e-book version. So, I downloaded Robinson Crusoe from Planet e-books (a legal website of classic literature). I checked the text and it's original only. The text of the Norton Critical Edition and the e-book are same totally. But the e-book is divided into chapters and as far as I know, originally Robinson Crusoe wasn't divided into chapters. So, I'm a little confused about what to do.

As far as speed is concerned, I'm a very slow reader. So, I won't be able to read all the three novels in May. A House for Mr. Biswas is a long novel (more than 600 pages). So, I'm willing buddy-read this one in June. I'm willing to read Robinson Crusoe and No Longer at Ease in May. I want to start with Robinson Crusoe.

Cool. Even I am a fast paced reader, but since this is a buddy reading project, I think we need to slow down a little. I am not sure though. How about this? We can fix a deadline or make a schedule to discuss the books? How does an act a day schedule sound to you?

I have worldview edition for Abhigyan Shakuntalam, from my college days. But if you want, I can pick another edition. For Merchant of Venice, I am planning to read it from Arden edition - I have a pdf.

Is that okay with you?

Cool. An act a day is totally doable. And for the editions, you can take a call. Let me know from where we can get a hold of those editions if you’d would.

I want to read original, unabridged versions only.

I don't always stick to a TBR, but my aim for this month is to finish:

  • Making Waves (Franklin U #7) by Christina Lee (currently reading)
  • Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Books 2-5)
  • Deke by Eden Finley (because I got halfway through it in March, got way too anxious over a confrontation scene and moved onto Fake Boyfriend #4 and never looked back)
  • Gilded Wolves trilogy by Roshani Chokshi (I will probably have to re-read the first book)
  • Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim (I've picked this one up so many times and I finally feel like I'm in the right mood for it!)
  • Malice Dulogy by Heather Walter (I read the first one a couple of years ago, but never ended up getting around to the second one.)
  • Komomo Confiserie by Maki Minami

Other books/series I hope to get to:

  • Hat Trick (last book in the Fake Boyfriend series, gotta suck it up and read it no matter how much I would rather do anything else).
  • Royal Scoundrel by Saxon James (It's a novella, so I'll probably get to it. I've actually been looking forward to this one!)
  • Hamlet (I've been meaning to re-read it for a while now. I might get to a couple of other Shakespeare works just because I've read so many retellings over the years, I think it's time to read the originals.)
  • Re-read Volumes 1-45 of Skip Beat because that's where I stopped years ago, and apparently Vol. 50 came out this year, so I guess I'm doing that.
  • Re-read the entirety of Library Wars by Hiro Arikawa because it feels relevant.
  • Finally read SpyxFamily so my brother will shut up about it.
  • The rest of Elizabeth Lim's backlist, if I finish Spin the Dawn.
  • The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (Someone tell me it's worth it because I've seen so many mixed reviews.)

Also, absolutely not going to get to it this month, but I'm kind of curious about the Zodiac Academy series and will probably read it some time this year.

But anyway, as you can probably tell, my tastes aren't too specific and it really just depends on my mood.

There's already a Buddy read planned for Hamlet if you want to join them!

Invisible Life - I haven't read it but my kiddo loved it. She had to read it for school and wrote like critical essays on it, I've read her essays - not the book smiley36 and got spoiled completely so I don't think I'll be reading it.

You gotta be okay with slower pacing. Otherwise, if you read the whole book and still wanna discuss, just make sure you don't drop any spoilers and just weigh in on the parts being discussed on that day, if that works for you. I've done Buddy Reads/ Read-alongs where i've read ahead, but have made notes for each chapter so I can talk about only that portion. But it does take away from some of the fun, because the rest of the group os theorizing while I already knew how it all went. smiley36 So it's not the same.

But it's upto you. Will add you to the group. We will likely start next week as soon as I have my book.
