Lizzie, I want to ask a few questions related to May's reading challenge.
1) Can I read books less than 200 pages if I intend to read more than one book in a month? I've decided to read Goosebumps books (children's horror books) in May and all of them are less than 200 pages. I know it's written that a book should consists of at least 60 pages. So, I think Goosebumps books fit the criteria because each of them is more than 100 pages. Still, I want to be sure about reading shorter books. Please let me know the answer.
Yes you can since we're allowing fics that are 60 pages.
2) What should I write in the section of author's name if I read a collection of short stories written by various authors. Suppose, in a book, there're 20 short stories written by 20 different authors. It's difficult to write all the names. What should I do in that case?
Just the official title of the book will work and maybe the publisher's name
3) This question is related to illustrated books. I'm very confused when it comes to illustrated books. Yes, it's mentioned that comics and graphic novels aren't allowed. And you told me chapter books with illustrations are allowed. Still I want to know what kind of illustrations are allowed and what not. It'll be great if you write guidelines related to illustrated books in the main post. I did research and saw many interesting books with illustrations. I'm willing to read a book named Inkheart. It's written by a German author and translated by an English translator. There're illustrations at the end of every chapter. However, they're small and they appear only after the chapters end. They don't take a lot of space. The book is a fantasy novel and it consists of more than 500 pages. Can I read the book even though illustrations appear at every chapter? There're two books named The Ten Thousand Doors of January and The Cat Who Came In Off The Roof. There're illustrations before the begining of all the chapters of these two books. I also want to read Sudha Murthy's books. I bought two books a few months ago and there're illustrations in the books. However, I couldn't read any of them for April's reading challenge due of illustrations. Therefore, it will be very helpful if you can give more details regarding illustrated books. Many popular books like Coraline (Neil Gaiman), The Chronicles of Narnia (C.S. Lewis), The Wishing Chair series (Enid Blyton), The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane (Kate DiCamillo) have illustrations. If I can't select books because of illustrations, my opinions will be limited.
The illustrated books that are excluded are ones like the Very Hungry Caterpillar where the illustrations form the major part of the storytelling and there are very few words per page, plus they are not chapter books. The ones like Dora, and My little pony series etc for early readers with bigger fonts and very little textual matter are also excluded. The ones that you mention are allowed (chapter books)
