Sounds simple? Let's break this up further for you.
RULES
You don't have to do anything you're already not doing (reading). All we ask is that you commit to read a minimum of 200 pages in the month if you sign up.
Read at your own pace and read whatever you want to from any genre, any language. Except if you sign up for this challenge, you'll also have to keep track of how much you're reading.
Books must be chapter books meaning comics and illustrated books like graphic novels, magazines, journals and periodicals and any chapter books less than 60 pages won't count.
Online fiction and FFs will be allowed, ARC and beta-reading will also be included.
However, reading or proofreading your own work will not count.
All formats will count: Physical books, e books, and Audiobooks. We’re allowing online fiction and Fan fiction as well provided there is a word count. Books must be a minimum of 60 pages / 18000 words.
* On request, we have decided to amend this in May to allow shorter fics too, but they will have to be logged as one entry that make up more than 60 pages. We will allow a max of 5 fics to be logged as one entry. For eg: If you read 3 shorter FFs of 20 pages each, you will need to log them together as one entry and submit links to each of them.
When you sign up, please tell us your
- reading pace i.e. how many books you normally read or intend to read this month [One book counts as roughly 300 pages]
1 to 5,
6 to 10,
11 to 20,
20 to 35
Or more than 35 (upto 50)
- Let us know if you would be open to being Captain of your team.
- Also share suggestions for Team names!
You will log only books (or pages) that you read in the month of May i.e. from May 1, 2025 to May 31, 2025.
How to log books?
Once you sign up on this thread, you are included in the challenge.
There will be 3 teams, each team will be have a Team Captain that will be nominated by the team members. The captain will be responsible for tallying the logs at the end of the month. We will arbitrarily allot you to a team, and try and keep the number of team members as equal as possible and keep the teams as balanced as we can depending on the pace of reading.
The captain from each team will post a thread entitled: May 2025 Reading Challenge Team Name. You will make a post in the thread with the Title as "Your UN's page log". Eg : My post will be titled "LizzieBennet's page log"
Whenever you finish a book, edit your post to add the title of the book, the author, and the total number of pages.
Log pages based on Amazon’s page count. For audiobooks, when you finish them, use the Amazon Kindle page count. For Fan Fiction or online fiction, log pages based on word count divided by 300 (standard number of words in a page)
If you DNF (Did Not Finish) a book, simply log the pages you read since we are counting pages here and not books. If you DNF an audiobook, log pages based on number of hours read (40 pages per hour at normal speed)
If you are continuing a book from April, just record the number of pages you read in May. Similarly if you start a book and do not finish it by the end of May, simply log the pages you read in May.
All books finished (or DNF) must be logged within 3 days of finishing.
You are responsible for tracking your own reading. Please keep an accurate log of the books you finish. We trust you to be honest.
Lastly, treat this as a fun and friendly competition!
Every member of the winning team (max number of pages logged at the end of the month) will get a special siggy and every participant will be given a badge [We will have separate tiers for badges based on how many pages you logged that month]
We will also have a siggy for the MVP [a member most likely from the winning team that logged the maximum number of pages and helped their team's victory]
