There are a couple books in my shelf that have been sitting unread since high school 🙈 I have been ignoring them for years, while I keep buying and reading new books. But I know... someday I will get to those books too. Someday. It'll happen 😌😌

Yeah these days the only reason I read her books are cos they're easy to read and help me get to my reading goals faster smiley36 otherwise her protagonists are TSTL ( a new term I learned only thanks to her books! smiley36).

I still like Locked Door the best among the ones I've read, maybe cos it's the first book I read of hers. The Crash, The Boyfriend and The housemaid were all not bad though.

The inmate - I hated. Same with Never lie, though it had its moments.

Now I'm not sure if I wanna read The Ex smiley22

I'm glad to know your thoughts about The Locked Door. Actually, I'm willing to read The Locked Door for this Book Talk reading challenge. I ordered the book on Amazon yesterday. At first I was thinking about a different book for this reading challenge. That was also a thriller and I bought the book a few months ago. Then I changed my decision and decided to read The Locked Door.

If you're reading the ebook then use the Kindle one

If you're reading the physical book, then the paperback one.. that's all I can say smiley36

Sorry for the confusion, but since all the books im reading are the ebook format, i think its better if I use the kindle edition pagecount for all of them na?

Yep exactly. Someday. Until then that shelf will just keep getting filled with more new books.I bought another one yesterday. Went out to get some packing material and came back with a book as well. smiley36

yeah I think that makes it easier. For e-books let’s use Kindle page count and for physical books, we can use paperback page counts. I’ll make clear when I post the teams and the rules again.

In a world that grows increasingly complex, reading remains a simple, easily attainable goal and hobby that brings joy and fulfillment.

A book is not just your best friend and companion, it does not just let you travel to unique worlds, but most importantly it allows you an immersive experience that taps into your humanity and humaneness, and offers you an exercise in empathy if you will. To quote Alice Hoffman, "Books may well be the only true magic."

Most of us read - whether it's for enjoyment or for gaining knowledge.

So we thought why not turn reading - something most of us do - into a fun game by making it a challenge?

Welcome to Book Talk Reading Challenge – April 2025

All you have to do is sign up and Read!

Sounds simple? Let's break this up further for you.

RULES

ImageYou don't have to do anything you're already not doing (reading). All we ask is that you commit to read a minimum of 200 pages in the month if you sign up.

ImageRead at your own pace and read whatever you want to from any genre. Except if you sign up for this challenge, you'll also have to keep track of how much you're reading.

ImageBooks must be chapter books meaning comics and illustrated books like graphic novels etc won't count.

ImageAll formats will count: Physical books, e books, and Audiobooks.

ImageWhen you sign up, please also tell us your reading pace i.e. how many books you normally read or intend to read this month

1 to 5,

6 to 10,

11 to 20 or

more than 20.

ImageYou will log only books (or pages) that you read in the month of April i.e. from April 1, 2025 to April 30, 2025.

Image

How to log books?

ImageOnce you sign up on this thread, you are included in the challenge.

ImageThere will be 3 teams, each team will be have a Team Captain that will be nominated by the team members. The captain will be responsible for tallying the logs at the end of the month. We will arbitrarily allot you to a team, and try and keep the number of team members as equal as possible and keep the teams as balanced as we can depending on the pace of reading.

ImageThe captain from each team will post a thread entitled: April 2025 Reading Challenge Team Name. You will make a post in the thread with the Title as "Your UN's page log". Eg : My post will be titled "LizzieBennet's page log"

ImageWhenever you finish a book, edit your post to add the title of the book, the author, and the total number of pages.

ImageLog pages based on Amazon’s page count. For audiobooks, when you finish them, use the Amazon paperback page count.

ImageIf you DNF (Did Not Finish) a book, simply log the pages you read since we are counting pages here and not books. If you DNF an audiobook, log pages based on number of hours read (40 pages per hour at normal speed)

ImageIf you are continuing a book from March, just record the number of pages you read in April. Similarly if you start a book and do not finish it by the end of April, simply log the pages you read in April.

ImageAll books finished (or DNF) must be logged within 3 days of finishing.

ImageYou are responsible for tracking your own reading. Please keep an accurate log of the books you finish. We trust you to be honest.

ImageLastly, treat this as a fun and friendly competition! Every member of the winning team (max number of pages logged at the end of the month) will get a special siggy and every participant will be given a badge.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up and bury your nose (or ears) into books all month long! And help your team win while doing it!

Ok, sign me up please .

I don't have a fixed reading pace, meaning, sometimes I finish a 2000 page novel, in a couple of weeks while at other times it would take me months and months to finish a book.

so I will play it safe, include me in 1-5 books segment.

BTW what if one reads more books or pages than the book/page segment in which he or she is slotted ?
